Blackstar LT DIST Distortion Pedal (Half Price)
Description
Quick Product Summary
The Blackstar LT DIST Distortion Pedal is a compact analogue drive pedal designed to cover everything from clean boosting and light overdrive through crunchy rhythm tones to full distortion.
At the heart of the LT DIST is Blackstar's patent-applied-for clipping circuit, developed to reproduce the tone, compression and playing response associated with the company's valve-driven HT pedals in a smaller, pedalboard-friendly format.
Four straightforward controls – Gain, Level, Tone and Blackstar's patented ISF – make it easy to shape the pedal around different guitars and amplifiers. ISF is particularly useful because it changes the overall tonal character from a tighter American-inspired response through to a warmer, woodier British-style voice.
For guitarists who want one compact drive pedal capable of moving between boost, overdrive and distortion without becoming complicated, the Blackstar LT DIST is a versatile choice.

Why Choose The Blackstar LT DIST?
From Clean Boost To Full Distortion
The Gain control gives the LT DIST a particularly useful operating range. At lower settings it can work as a clean boost, especially when combined with a higher Level setting to push an already driven valve amp. Increase the Gain and it progresses through crunch and overdrive before reaching a fuller distorted lead sound.
Blackstar's Patented ISF Control
Alongside the conventional Tone control, the LT DIST includes Blackstar's ISF – Infinite Shape Feature.
Turn ISF towards the American side for a tighter bottom end and more aggressive mid character. Move towards the British side for a warmer, woodier response with a different midrange shape. Positions between the two let you fine-tune the pedal to suit your amplifier, guitar and playing style.
Valve-Pedal-Inspired Clipping Circuit
Blackstar developed the LT series using a patent-applied-for clipping circuit inspired by the response of its valve-driven HT pedals. The aim is to provide natural compression and a responsive drive character without requiring the larger enclosure and specialised power requirements of a valve pedal.
Simple Four-Control Layout
Gain controls the amount of drive, Level sets the output volume, Tone adjusts brightness and ISF changes the broader tonal character. That makes the LT DIST easy to adjust quickly on a pedalboard without navigating secondary modes or hidden functions.
Compact, Rugged Pedalboard Design
The LT series uses a compact metal enclosure designed for regular pedalboard use. Buffered bypass and silent switching also make the LT DIST easy to integrate into a wider effects chain.
Blackstar LT DIST vs Popular Alternatives
Blackstar LT DRIVE
The Blackstar LT DRIVE is better suited to players whose priority is lower-gain boost, overdrive and lead saturation rather than dedicated distortion. It uses the same compact LT philosophy but has a simpler Gain, Level and Tone layout without ISF. Choose the LT DIST when you want broader tone shaping and a stronger move into distortion.
Blackstar LT METAL
The Blackstar LT METAL takes the same Gain, Level, Tone and ISF format into significantly more aggressive high-gain territory. It is the better choice for modern metal and heavily saturated rhythm sounds, while the LT DIST is more versatile for players moving between classic crunch, rock distortion and lead tones.
BOSS DS-1 Distortion
The BOSS DS-1 is a classic distortion pedal built around Distortion, Tone and Level controls with a distinctive hard-edged attack. The LT DIST offers a different approach by adding Blackstar's ISF circuit, giving you additional control over the broader American-to-British-style tonal character.
Who Is The Blackstar LT DIST For?
The LT DIST is particularly well suited to guitarists who want:
-
One pedal covering boost, overdrive and distortion
-
Classic rock and hard-rock drive sounds
-
More tone-shaping flexibility than a basic three-knob distortion
-
A compact pedal for an existing pedalboard
-
A distortion pedal that can also push an already driven amplifier
-
Simple physical controls without presets or software
-
American-inspired and British-inspired tonal options from the same pedal
-
A drive pedal suitable for both rhythm and lead sounds

Suitable Genres & Playing Styles
The LT DIST is a strong choice for blues rock, classic rock, indie, alternative, punk, hard rock and heavier guitar styles where you need more drive than a conventional low-gain overdrive but do not necessarily want the extreme saturation of a dedicated metal pedal.
At lower Gain settings, it can also work as a boost into an amplifier that is already beginning to break up, making it useful for pushing rhythm tones into a more pronounced lead sound.
Overdrive vs Distortion: Where Does The LT DIST Fit?
Overdrive pedals generally aim to create or enhance the sound of an amplifier being pushed into natural breakup, while distortion pedals usually provide greater saturation and a more pronounced change in the guitar signal.
The LT DIST deliberately crosses that boundary. Low Gain settings can provide boost and overdrive, while increasing the control progressively moves into fuller distortion. This makes it particularly useful for players who do not want separate low-gain and higher-gain pedals for every part of their set.
Where Should The LT DIST Go On A Pedalboard?
For the lowest-noise performance, Blackstar recommends placing the LT DIST early in the effects chain.
A typical setup would place it after the guitar and before modulation, delay and reverb effects. Players using several gain pedals can also experiment with stacking the LT DIST with boosts or other overdrives, as changing the order will alter how the two pedals interact.
Story & Context
Blackstar's LT compact pedal series was developed as a smaller and more conventional pedalboard-friendly alternative to the company's valve-driven HT effects pedals.
The range includes dedicated boost, drive and distortion models, with Blackstar designing its clipping circuit to retain characteristics inspired by the compression and playing response of the larger valve pedals.
The LT DIST also brought Blackstar's patented ISF tone-shaping system into a compact distortion pedal, allowing guitarists to use the American-to-British tonal concept familiar from Blackstar amplifiers without needing a Blackstar amp in the rest of the rig.

Fair Deal Music Verdict 🎵
★★★★★ 5/5
The Blackstar LT DIST is a strong all-round distortion pedal because it is not restricted to one narrow gain sound. It can boost an already driven amp, handle crunchy rock rhythm work and move into a properly saturated lead tone while remaining easy to control.
ISF is the feature that really separates it from many straightforward compact distortion pedals. Having Tone and ISF available together gives you more scope to make the pedal work with different guitars and amplifiers rather than accepting one fixed distortion character.
Best suited for: Rock players and guitarists wanting boost, overdrive and distortion from one compact pedal
Customers usually upgrade from: Amplifier-only distortion and basic entry-level drive pedals
Most commonly paired with: Valve amps, clean pedal-platform amplifiers, delay pedals and pedalboard power supplies
Our tip: Start with ISF at 12 o'clock and set the Tone control first. Then move the ISF gradually in either direction until the pedal sits naturally with your amplifier.
Showroom feedback: A particularly useful option for players who want more flexibility than a basic distortion pedal without moving into a complicated multi-mode drive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Blackstar LT DIST be used as an overdrive pedal?
Yes. Lower Gain settings move into boost and overdrive territory, while higher settings provide progressively stronger distortion. This makes it more flexible than a pedal designed exclusively around one high-gain sound.
Can I use the LT DIST to boost a valve amp?
Yes. Blackstar specifically recommends lower Gain and higher Level settings as a way of pushing an amplifier that is already beginning to distort.
What does the ISF control do?
ISF changes the overall tonal character of the pedal. One end provides a tighter American-inspired response, while the opposite end moves towards a warmer, woodier British-style character.
Where should the LT DIST go in my effects chain?
Blackstar recommends positioning it early in the effects chain for the best noise performance. Modulation, delay and reverb effects would normally be placed after it in a conventional pedalboard setup.
Can I stack the LT DIST with another overdrive?
Yes. Combining the LT DIST with another boost or overdrive can create additional gain stages. Experiment with pedal order because each arrangement will produce a different response.
Does the LT DIST use a battery?
Yes. It can operate from a 9V PP3 battery or from a suitable external 9V DC adaptor.
Is the LT DIST suitable for metal?
It can produce substantial distortion for heavier rock styles, but guitarists who need more aggressive dedicated high-gain sounds should also consider the Blackstar LT METAL.
What is the difference between the LT DRIVE and LT DIST?
The LT DRIVE is focused more heavily on boost and overdrive sounds. The LT DIST provides a broader progression into distortion and adds Blackstar's ISF control for additional tonal shaping.
