Description

Quick Product Summary

The Blackstar LT DUAL is a versatile dual-channel guitar drive pedal designed to give you several levels of gain from one compact unit. Channel 1 moves from boost and crunch through overdrive, while Channel 2 takes over from heavier crunch into saturated lead distortion, making it easy to build rhythm and lead sounds without filling your pedalboard with several separate gain pedals.

Each channel has its own Gain and Level controls, while a shared Tone control and Blackstar's patented ISF – Infinite Shape Feature – circuit let you tailor the overall response around your guitar and amplifier.

Blackstar's patent-applied-for clipping circuit is derived from the tonal approach of its larger valve-driven pedals, with the aim of delivering natural compression and a responsive drive character from a conventional compact pedal. With two footswitches and clever channel switching, the LT DUAL can even turn a clean single-channel amplifier into a practical three-sound setup.

Why Choose The Blackstar LT DUAL?

Two Gain Channels In One Pedal

The biggest advantage of the LT DUAL is having two independently adjustable drive channels available from one unit. You could set Channel 1 for an edge-of-breakup or crunchy rhythm sound and Channel 2 for heavier lead distortion, giving you an instant step up in gain and volume when required.

Channel 1: Boost To Overdrive

Channel 1 covers the lower and middle part of the gain range. At restrained settings it can add extra level and push to your amplifier, while higher Gain settings move through crunchy rhythm sounds into fuller overdrive.

Channel 2: Crunch To Saturated Lead

Channel 2 starts further into driven territory and progresses into much stronger distortion. This makes it well suited to heavier rhythm playing, sustained lead tones and situations where you need a noticeable increase in gain from your main overdrive sound.

Blackstar ISF Tone Shaping

The shared ISF control works alongside Tone to change the broader character of both channels. Moving towards one side produces a tighter American-inspired response with a more aggressive mid character, while moving towards the other creates a warmer, woodier British-style response.

Clever Switching For A Three-Sound Rig

With both channels bypassed, you hear your normal amplifier sound. Engage Channel 1 for your first drive level, then switch directly to Channel 2 for your higher-gain tone.

Used with a clean single-channel amplifier, this effectively gives you clean, rhythm drive and lead drive from a very straightforward pedal setup.

Blackstar LT DUAL vs Popular Alternatives

Blackstar LT DRIVE

The LT DRIVE is the simpler choice if you only need one boost-to-overdrive sound and prefer a conventional three-knob pedal. Choose the LT DUAL when independent rhythm and lead gain settings would be more useful than minimum pedalboard size.

Blackstar LT DIST

The LT DIST combines a broad boost-to-distortion gain range with Gain, Level, Tone and ISF controls in a single-channel format. It is a strong option when you only need one core distortion sound; the LT DUAL is better suited to players who regularly switch between two separately configured gain levels.

Blackstar LT METAL

The LT METAL is aimed more specifically at aggressive modern high-gain guitar sounds. The LT DUAL covers a broader journey from boost and crunch through rock overdrive into lead distortion, making it the more flexible choice for players who do not need their entire gain range centred around metal.

BOSS JB-2 Angry Driver

The BOSS JB-2 Angry Driver also combines two distinct drive circuits in one pedal and provides several ways to run them independently, in series or in parallel. It offers deeper routing flexibility, while the LT DUAL takes a more straightforward approach built around quickly selecting lower-gain and higher-gain channels from two dedicated footswitches.

Who Is The Blackstar LT DUAL For?

The LT DUAL is particularly well suited to:

  • Guitarists who need separate rhythm and lead drive sounds

  • Players using clean single-channel amplifiers

  • Blues, classic rock and hard-rock guitarists

  • Pedalboard users trying to reduce the number of individual gain pedals

  • Players who want both overdrive and stronger distortion from one unit

  • Guitarists who need different Gain and Level settings for rhythm and solos

  • Valve amp users looking for multiple stages of front-end gain

  • Musicians who prefer conventional knobs and footswitches over presets

Suitable Genres & Playing Styles

The LT DUAL is particularly useful across blues rock, classic rock, indie, alternative, punk, hard rock and heavier lead guitar styles because its two channels can be configured for different jobs.

A blues or classic-rock player could use Channel 1 for low-gain breakup and Channel 2 for a richer solo sound. A harder-rock player could instead set Channel 1 for substantial rhythm crunch and reserve Channel 2 for higher-gain lead work.

How Can One Pedal Give You Three Guitar Sounds?

The LT DUAL's switching system is one of its most useful features.

Start with both channels bypassed and you have your amplifier's normal tone. Press the Channel 1 switch and the pedal engages your first independently configured drive sound. If you then press Channel 2, the pedal switches directly to your second drive channel rather than simply stacking both channels together.

With the right settings, that gives you a simple Clean → Crunch/Overdrive → Lead Distortion workflow from a single pedal and a single-channel amplifier.

Where Should The LT DUAL Go On A Pedalboard?

The LT DUAL works naturally towards the earlier part of a conventional effects chain, before modulation, delay and reverb.

If you're also using compressors, boosts, fuzzes or additional drives, changing the order can produce very different results. A boost placed before the LT DUAL can push its clipping circuit harder, while placing a boost afterwards can be used more as an overall level lift.

Story & Context

Blackstar developed the compact LT pedal range as a pedalboard-friendly extension of the ideas behind its larger valve-driven HT effects.

The range uses a patent-applied-for clipping circuit designed to reproduce characteristics associated with valve-style compression and response without requiring a valve or unusually large pedal enclosure.

The LT DUAL takes that concept further than the single-channel LT DRIVE and LT DIST by combining two separately controllable gain channels. Its design is particularly focused on players who want to treat a drive pedal almost like the channel section of an amplifier, moving quickly between clean, rhythm and lead sounds.

Fair Deal Music Verdict 🎵

★★★★★ 5/5

The Blackstar LT DUAL is a particularly useful pedal for guitarists who normally find themselves running two separate drive pedals simply to achieve a rhythm sound and a higher-gain lead tone.

The independent Gain and Level controls are the key. You can make Channel 2 not only more distorted than Channel 1 but also louder, which makes the pedal genuinely practical for moving from rhythm to solos rather than simply providing two variations on the same sound.

Best suited for: Rock players, gigging guitarists and single-channel amp users needing separate rhythm and lead sounds
Customers usually upgrade from: Single-channel overdrive or distortion pedals
Most commonly paired with: Clean or mildly driven valve amps, delay pedals, reverb pedals and pedalboard power supplies
Our tip: Set Channel 1 first as your core rhythm sound, then dial Channel 2 with slightly more Level as well as additional Gain so your lead sound actually moves forward in a band mix.
Showroom feedback: The LT DUAL makes the most sense when you think of it as adding two additional gain channels to your amplifier rather than simply as another distortion box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use both LT DUAL channels for different volume levels?

Yes. Each channel has an independent Level control, so Channel 2 can be set louder than Channel 1 for solos rather than simply adding more distortion.

Do Channel 1 and Channel 2 stack together?

No. The switching system selects between the channels. If one channel is active and you press the other channel's footswitch, the LT DUAL switches to that channel.

Can the LT DUAL turn a clean amp into a three-channel setup?

Effectively, yes. Use the bypassed amplifier sound as your clean tone, Channel 1 for rhythm overdrive and Channel 2 for your higher-gain or lead sound.

Does each channel have its own Tone and ISF settings?

No. Tone and ISF are shared between both channels, while Gain and Level can be set independently for Channel 1 and Channel 2.

Is the LT DUAL suitable for valve amplifiers?

Yes. It can be used with clean valve amps as the main source of gain or placed in front of an amplifier that is already beginning to break up for additional saturation.

Can I use it with other guitar pedals?

Yes. It integrates easily into a conventional pedalboard and can be combined with boosts, modulation, delay, reverb and other effects.

Does the LT DUAL run from a battery?

Yes. It can operate from a 9V PP3 battery or a suitable external 9V DC power supply.

Should I choose the LT DUAL or LT DIST?

Choose the LT DIST if you want one compact distortion sound with ISF control. Choose the LT DUAL if having two independently adjustable Gain and Level settings for rhythm and lead playing is more useful.
