Description

The Yamaha PSR-A5000 is a professional 61-key arranger workstation created specifically for musicians performing and producing Middle Eastern, Turkish, Persian, Arabic and Oriental music.

At its heart is an enormous collection of 1,161 preset Voices, 86 Drum/SFX Kits and 454 accompaniment Styles, including an extensive library developed specifically for regional music. That includes 299 Middle Eastern Voices, 44 Middle Eastern Drum Kits and 260 Middle Eastern Styles, covering musical traditions and genres including Khaleeji, Shami, Masri, Maghrebi, Persian and Turkish music.

The PSR-A5000 goes considerably further than simply adding regional sounds to a conventional arranger. WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The PSR-A5000 isn't simply a general-purpose arranger with a handful of additional regional sounds.

Yamaha has designed it around the actual needs of musicians performing Middle Eastern and Oriental music, from the sound library and accompaniment Styles right through to scale tuning, portamento, percussion mapping and live control.

That means a player can access authentic regional instrumentation such as Oud, Qanoon, Nay and specialist percussion while also having the modern arranger tools needed for contemporary performance.

For live musicians, dedicated Scale Tune buttons and memories can make changing tuning systems far quicker than diving into menus.

For producers and composers, expansion memory, Style creation, Voice editing, 16-track sequencing and detailed effects provide considerable scope to create original material.

And because the keyboard includes its own speaker system, touchscreen and comprehensive accompaniment engine, it remains a highly practical all-in-one instrument.

DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS

299 Dedicated Middle Eastern Voices

One of the defining strengths of the PSR-A5000 is its extensive regional Voice library.

The workstation includes 299 Middle Eastern Voices, featuring instruments associated with a wide range of musical traditions.

Yamaha has specifically sampled and developed instruments including:

  • Oud

  • Qanoon

  • Nay

  • Regional strings

  • Percussion

  • Wind instruments

  • Plucked instruments

  • Contemporary Oriental sounds

These aren't simply generic samples renamed for the market. Yamaha designed the PSR-A5000 around regional performance techniques, with larger dedicated waveforms and articulation technology helping supported instruments respond more naturally.

For players who regularly perform Arabic, Turkish, Persian and related styles of music, this is one of the biggest reasons to choose the PSR-A5000 over a conventional arranger workstation.

1,161 Voices in Total

Beyond its specialist regional content, the PSR-A5000 provides 1,161 preset Voices plus 86 Drum/SFX Kits and 480 XG Voices.

The featured Voice library includes:

  • 219 Super Articulation Voices

  • 25 MegaVoices

  • 41 Sweet! Voices

  • 64 Cool! Voices

  • 91 Live! Voices

  • 24 OrganFlutes Voices

  • 20 Revo! SFX kits

This gives the instrument considerable flexibility outside its core Oriental repertoire.

Pianos, electric pianos, organs, guitars, strings, synths, brass and orchestral sounds can all be incorporated alongside regional instrumentation.

That makes the PSR-A5000 equally capable of traditional arrangements, contemporary fusion and modern pop production.

Super Articulation Voices

The PSR-A5000 includes 219 Super Articulation Voices.

Super Articulation technology is designed to reproduce characteristic performance details associated with real instruments.

On acoustic and regional instruments, those details matter enormously.

Slides, attacks, ornaments and changes in articulation often define the character of the instrument just as much as the basic tone itself.

Super Articulation helps selected Voices respond more musically to the way you play, producing a more natural and expressive result.

Crossfade Portamento

The PSR-A5000 includes Crossfade Portamento with adjustable velocity and timing behaviour.

Portamento is particularly important in many Middle Eastern and Oriental instrumental traditions, where smooth transitions between pitches form an essential part of the performance style.

Crossfade Portamento allows transitions between successive notes to feel more fluid and expressive.

Yamaha also gives you control over the transition speed and the velocity behaviour of following notes, allowing the response to be tailored more closely to the instrument or playing style.

For solo lines on Oud, strings, synths and other lead sounds, this can make a dramatic difference.

454 Accompaniment Styles

The PSR-A5000 includes 454 preset accompaniment Styles.

These comprise:

  • 429 Pro Styles

  • 15 Session Styles

  • 10 DJ Styles

Most importantly, 260 of these are dedicated Middle Eastern Styles.

The regional Style library includes:

  • Khaleeji

  • Shami

  • Masri

  • Maghrebi

  • Persian

  • Turkish

Yamaha specifically added a large amount of new regional accompaniment content for the PSR-A5000, making it suitable for both traditional repertoire and more contemporary regional music.

Each Style includes multiple variations and performance sections, allowing arrangements to develop dynamically as you play.

Full Style Control

The accompaniment system provides:

  • 3 Intros

  • 4 Main Variations

  • 4 Fill Ins

  • Break

  • 3 Endings

Each Style also offers four One Touch Settings.

These instantly recall suitable keyboard Voices for the selected Style, making it much quicker to move between songs or genres during a live set.

Style Section Time Signature

A particularly important feature for regional music is Style Section Time Signature.

Unlike conventional Western popular music, many Middle Eastern, Turkish and regional musical forms use unusual or changing time signatures.

The PSR-A5000 allows different sections within a Style to use individual time signatures.

This gives Style creators much greater freedom to build arrangements that reflect the structure of the music rather than forcing everything into a standard rhythmic framework.

Style Section Reset

Style Section Reset lets you immediately return the accompaniment rhythm to beat one.

This may sound like a small feature, but it can be extremely useful during live performance.

If another musician changes phrasing unexpectedly or the band needs to synchronise quickly, the arranger can be brought back into line without stopping the performance.

For collaborative playing, that extra flexibility can be extremely valuable.

Dedicated Scale Tune Controls

Middle Eastern music often relies on tuning systems that differ from conventional Western equal temperament.

The PSR-A5000 provides dedicated Scale Tune Setting buttons so individual note pitches can be adjusted rapidly during performance.

This allows musicians to access regional scales and microtonal tunings without navigating through layers of menus.

For players performing Maqam-based music and other regional traditions, these controls are among the most important elements of the entire instrument.

Five Scale Tune Memories

The PSR-A5000 also provides five Scale Tune Memory buttons.

Once you've created the tuning setups you use regularly, they can be stored and recalled quickly.

That can be invaluable when moving between songs, singers or musical traditions that require different tunings.

For a working performer, being able to switch scales instantly is considerably more practical than manually retuning individual notes before each piece.

Specialised Middle Eastern Drum Kits

Yamaha has put considerable emphasis on percussion within the PSR-A5000.

The instrument includes 44 dedicated Middle Eastern Drum Kits, alongside its wider Drum/SFX library.

The drum architecture allows up to 128 mapped instruments within a single kit.

Yamaha has also optimised the mapping layout for Oriental finger-drumming techniques.

This means percussion parts can be played more intuitively from the keyboard rather than feeling like generic drum samples spread across arbitrary keys.

Key-Off Drum Notes

Certain drum and percussion sounds support key-off notes.

That means releasing a key can trigger another part of the sample or articulation.

This can reproduce more natural behaviours from acoustic percussion instruments and create a more realistic response when playing rhythm parts directly from the keyboard.

Revo! SFX

The PSR-A5000 includes 20 Revo! SFX kits.

Revo technology introduces variation between repeated triggered sounds rather than simply replaying exactly the same sample every time.

This is particularly useful for percussion rolls and repeated effects, where identical samples can quickly sound mechanical.

The result is a more natural, evolving performance.

Chord Looper

The built-in Chord Looper lets you record a chord sequence and repeat it automatically.

Once the progression is looping, your left hand is free from continually supplying chords.

You can then:

  • Play two-handed keyboard parts

  • Improvise

  • Trigger Scale Tune changes

  • Manipulate Live Controls

  • Concentrate on melody

  • Manage accompaniment sections

For both rehearsal and live performance, Chord Looper can dramatically expand what one musician can do in real time.

Four Keyboard Parts

The PSR-A5000 supports:

  • Right 1

  • Right 2

  • Right 3

  • Left

This allows sophisticated layers and splits.

For example, you could layer regional strings with another orchestral sound, assign a solo instrument to another right-hand part and use a separate Voice for the left hand.

These combinations can be stored into Registration Memory for instant recall.

7-Inch Colour Touchscreen

A 7-inch, 800 x 480 colour touchscreen provides access to the instrument's sounds, Styles, settings, mixer and editing functions.

This graphical interface makes navigating such an extensive sound and accompaniment library considerably easier.

Touchscreen control is combined with physical performance controls, so the keyboard doesn't force you to choose between menu convenience and hands-on operation.

Assignable Joystick

The built-in joystick is assignable and gives the player direct expressive control.

Depending on the selected Voice and assignment, it can be used for pitch, modulation and other musical parameters.

For regional instruments where bending and expressive pitch movement are central to the playing style, the joystick is particularly useful.

Live Control Knobs

Two assignable Live Control knobs allow parameters to be changed in real time.

These might be used for:

  • Filters

  • Effects

  • Sound shaping

  • Style parameters

  • Other assignable functions

Rather than simply choosing a preset and leaving it untouched, you can actively manipulate the sound while performing.

Seven Assignable Buttons

The PSR-A5000 provides seven assignable buttons.

Frequently used functions can therefore be placed directly under your fingers.

This is especially useful on stage, where navigating touchscreen menus while performing may not be practical.

The more you customise the workstation around your own repertoire, the more efficient the performance workflow becomes.

Powerful Effects System

The PSR-A5000 includes a substantial effects architecture with:

  • 59 preset Reverb types

  • 106 preset Chorus types

  • 322 preset DSP effects with VCM

  • User effect locations

  • Master Compressor

  • Master EQ

  • 28-part EQ

The result is extensive control over the final character of both keyboard Voices and accompaniment.

You can shape everything from subtle ambience through to heavily processed contemporary sounds.

VCM Technology

Selected effects use Yamaha Virtual Circuitry Modeling technology.

VCM is designed to recreate characteristics associated with analogue processing circuitry.

This can bring additional warmth, colour and character to effects used on Voices and accompaniment parts.

Microphone / Guitar Input

The PSR-A5000 includes a dedicated microphone/guitar input.

For singer-keyboard players, this lets the keyboard become the centre of the complete performance setup.

Built-in microphone processing includes:

  • Noise Gate

  • Compressor

  • 3-band EQ

It can also be useful when collaborating with another performer or adding guitar directly into the workstation setup.

Main & Sub Outputs

The PSR-A5000 provides:

  • Main L/L+R and R outputs

  • Sub outputs 1 and 2

The Sub outputs are especially useful for professional performance.

Individual parts can be routed separately to external equipment.

For example, you could send bass to a dedicated subwoofer or route selected drum parts to a mixer for separate processing.

This provides considerably more flexibility than a simple stereo output.

16-Track MIDI Recording

The internal sequencer supports 16-track recording.

Recording methods include:

  • Quick Recording

  • Multi Track Recording

  • Step Recording

That allows complete arrangements to be built directly inside the workstation.

For musicians creating original Styles, compositions or regional productions, the PSR-A5000 can therefore function as much more than a live arranger.

WAV & MP3 Audio Recording

Finished performances can also be recorded as audio.

The PSR-A5000 supports:

  • WAV recording

  • MP3 recording

  • WAV playback

  • MP3 playback

Maximum audio recording capacity is approximately 0.8GB or 80 minutes per song.

Useful playback functions include:

  • Time Stretch

  • Pitch Shift

  • Vocal Cancel

These tools can also help when learning or practising existing material.

Approx. 2GB Internal Memory

The PSR-A5000 provides approximately 2GB of internal storage.

This can be used for compatible user data, registrations, Styles and other content.

For musicians maintaining extensive performance libraries, this gives significantly more flexibility than relying solely on external storage.

Approx. 1GB Expansion Voice Memory

Approximately 1GB of onboard expansion Voice memory is available.

Additional Voices and Styles can therefore be installed to tailor the keyboard to your specific repertoire.

This is particularly useful for musicians working across different regional styles who want to build a personalised collection of sounds.

Expansion Explorer & Yamaha Expansion Manager

The PSR-A5000 supports Yamaha's Expansion Explorer ecosystem as well as Yamaha Expansion Manager.

These tools can be used to discover, organise and manage compatible expansion content.

That means the workstation can continue evolving as new sounds and Styles are added to your setup.

Built-In Four-Speaker Sound System

The PSR-A5000 features:

  • Two 13cm speakers

  • Two 5cm speakers

  • 15W x 2 amplification

This gives the workstation a powerful self-contained sound system for home playing, programming and rehearsal.

For live performance, the dedicated line outputs make it straightforward to connect to larger amplification or a professional PA system.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Yamaha PSR-A5000 is particularly well suited to:

  • Middle Eastern musicians

  • Arabic music performers

  • Turkish musicians

  • Persian musicians

  • Oriental keyboard players

  • Professional solo entertainers

  • Wedding and event musicians

  • Regional music producers

  • Worship and community musicians

  • Players performing Khaleeji, Shami, Masri or Maghrebi repertoire

  • Songwriters and arrangers

  • Musicians who rely on microtonal scale tuning

  • Players requiring authentic regional percussion

  • Performers who create their own Styles and Voices

For someone playing almost entirely conventional Western pop, rock or general arranger repertoire, a Yamaha PSR-SX model may be the more logical choice.

For a musician whose repertoire centres around Middle Eastern and Oriental music, however, the PSR-A5000's dedicated scale, sound, Style and performance architecture gives it a major advantage.

PLAYING STYLES & APPLICATIONS

Arabic music – Dedicated Voices, percussion, scales and Styles make this one of the PSR-A5000's primary applications.

Khaleeji – Yamaha includes a dedicated selection of Styles designed around Gulf-region repertoire.

Shami – Regional accompaniment and instrumentation support Levantine musical styles.

Masri – Egyptian-inspired Styles and instrumentation form part of the dedicated regional library.

Maghrebi – A substantial selection of North African Styles is included.

Persian music – Dedicated Persian Styles and tuning flexibility make the instrument highly suitable for Persian repertoire.

Turkish music – Dedicated Turkish Styles, instruments and Istanbul Strings content support both traditional and contemporary Turkish playing.

Live entertainment – Scale Tune memories, Registration Memory, Chord Looper and assignable controls are particularly useful for professional performance.

Wedding and event performance – Rapid sound, Style and tuning changes make the PSR-A5000 highly suitable for performers covering extensive live repertoires.

Music production – Voice editing, Style creation, MIDI sequencing and expansion memory make it equally useful for creating original arrangements.

Fusion and contemporary music – Combine regional instruments and rhythms with conventional pianos, synths, guitars, strings and modern production effects.

HOW IT COMPARES

Yamaha PSR-A5000 vs PSR-SX920

The PSR-A5000 and PSR-SX920 are both sophisticated Yamaha arranger workstations, but their priorities are very different.

The PSR-SX920 is aimed at broad international arranger use and provides a larger general-purpose library with newer mainstream arranger technologies.

The PSR-A5000 is specifically designed around Middle Eastern and Oriental performance.

Its key advantages for regional musicians include:

  • 299 Middle Eastern Voices

  • 44 Middle Eastern Drum Kits

  • 260 Middle Eastern Styles

  • Dedicated Scale Tune buttons

  • Five Scale Tune memories

  • Regional percussion mapping

  • Style Section Time Signature

  • Style Section Reset

  • Crossfade Portamento

Choose the PSR-A5000 when regional tuning, instrumentation and accompaniment are central to your music.

Choose the PSR-SX920 when your repertoire is primarily mainstream Western or international arranger music and you want Yamaha's newer general-purpose PSR-SX platform.

Yamaha PSR-A5000 vs Genos2

The Genos2 sits at the top of Yamaha's mainstream arranger-workstation range and offers a 76-key FSX keyboard, larger overall sound library, FM synthesis and a more extensive control surface.

The PSR-A5000 is more specialised.

For musicians whose repertoire depends on Middle Eastern tunings, regional Voices and dedicated Oriental Styles, the A5000's specialist tools may be considerably more relevant than the Genos2's greater overall specification.

The decision should therefore be based on musical repertoire rather than simply which instrument sits higher in Yamaha's range.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Professional and serious amateur musicians specialising in Arabic, Turkish, Persian and broader Middle Eastern or Oriental music.

Customers usually upgrade from: Older Yamaha PSR-A series keyboards and regional arranger keyboards where greater sound quality, Style depth, scale control and expansion capability are required.

Most commonly paired with: A sturdy keyboard stand, sustain or expression-style controller, headphones, suitable keyboard case and external PA system for professional performance.

Our tip: The headline specification is impressive, but the real reason to buy the PSR-A5000 is its dedicated Scale Tune controls, regional Styles, specialist percussion and Crossfade Portamento. These are the features that directly affect how authentic and expressive Middle Eastern performance feels.

Showroom feedback: For players whose repertoire genuinely depends on microtonal scales and dedicated Oriental accompaniment, the PSR-A5000 offers a much more purposeful workflow than adapting a general-purpose arranger to the job.
