Service / Setup Work
The guitar is checked and set up before leaving the shop.
As with any wooden instrument, setup can shift slightly during delivery because changes in temperature and humidity can affect neck relief, action and tuning stability. Minor adjustment after arrival can occasionally be beneficial depending on your personal playing preference and environment.
Why Choose The Gretsch Broadkaster LX?
Channel Core Centre Block
Gretsch's redesigned Channel Core centre block combines maple and spruce with focused chambering to produce a faster note attack, enhanced midrange presence and tight low-frequency response.
It gives the Broadkaster LX the resonance and physical response players expect from a large Gretsch while making it much easier to manage with overdrive, distortion and higher stage volume.
Pro Twin Six Humbuckers
The Pro Twin Six pickups are among Gretsch's more powerful modern humbuckers.
The neck pickup uses an Alnico 5 magnet for a warm, clear and articulate response, while the higher-output bridge pickup uses Alnico 4 for greater punch, tight lows and a strong midrange voice.
Together they give the Broadkaster LX enough power for serious rock tones without losing the clarity required for clean chords, blues and detailed studio parts.
String-Thru Bigsby B7GP
The gold Bigsby B7GP String-Thru vibrato gives you the expressive movement associated with a Bigsby while simplifying restringing compared with traditional pin-style Bigsby designs.
It is ideal for subtle chord shimmer, expressive lead playing and atmospheric vibrato rather than extreme pitch dives.
Rolled Ebony Fingerboard
A premium ebony fingerboard features rolled edges, 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 12-inch radius, creating a smooth playing surface that works equally well for rhythm and lead playing.
Luminlay side dots provide additional visibility on dark stages.
Professional Touring Hardware
Gotoh locking tuners, a Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut, anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge and Grover strap locks give the Broadkaster LX the hardware specification expected from a serious Professional Collection guitar.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Gretsch Broadkaster LX vs Broadkaster Jr. LX
The Broadkaster Jr. LX applies the Channel Core and Pro Twin Six concept to a smaller body.
Choose the Jr. LX if compact dimensions are a priority. Choose the full-size Broadkaster LX if you want a larger double-cut body, greater visual presence and the refined deeper cutaways of the full-size design.
Gretsch Broadkaster LX vs Broadkaster LX Figured
The Broadkaster LX Figured shares the core Professional Collection platform but moves to laminated flame-maple construction and premium figured finishes.
The standard Black LX gives you the essential Channel Core, Pro Twin Six electronics and professional hardware package without making highly figured timber the visual focus. It is especially striking if you prefer the contrast of gloss Black and gold hardware.
Gretsch Broadkaster LX vs G5622T Electromatic Center Block
The G5622T Electromatic provides a more accessible route into Gretsch centre-block guitars, but the Broadkaster LX moves substantially further in construction, hardware and electronics.
The LX adds the maple/spruce Channel Core, Pro Twin Six pickups, ebony fingerboard with rolled edges, Luminlay side markers, locking tuners, premium nut, String-Thru Bigsby and Professional Collection detailing.
For serious touring and recording use, the Broadkaster LX is the more complete instrument.
Who Is The Gretsch Broadkaster LX For?
The Broadkaster LX is particularly well suited to:
-
Professional and serious gigging musicians
-
Players upgrading from Streamliner or Electromatic Gretsch guitars
-
Rock players who need more output from a Gretsch
-
Blues guitarists wanting warmth without sacrificing articulation
-
Alternative and indie musicians using large pedalboards
-
Studio players who require several dependable pickup voices
-
Guitarists playing at higher stage volumes
-
Bigsby players looking for easier restringing
-
Players who value locking tuners and premium touring hardware
-
Guitarists looking for a high-end alternative to a conventional solid-body
Playing Styles & Applications
The Broadkaster LX is extremely capable across rock, blues, alternative, indie, pop, modern country, roots, atmospheric music and professional studio work.
Its higher-output bridge pickup is especially effective for rhythm guitar and driven lead tones, offering enough midrange presence to stay defined through a full band arrangement.
The neck pickup provides a warmer, more open response for blues, melodic leads and clean playing.
Because the Channel Core construction helps keep feedback manageable, the Broadkaster LX can confidently handle overdrive and significant stage volume without losing the resonant feel that gives a Gretsch centre-block guitar much of its character.
Why Choose A Centre Block Gretsch For High-Volume Playing?
A fully hollow guitar can be exceptionally resonant, but that large internal acoustic cavity can become difficult to control as distortion and stage volume increase.
The Broadkaster LX places a structured centre block through the body, reducing the tendency towards uncontrolled feedback while retaining resonant areas around the block.
Gretsch's Channel Core design goes further by combining maple and spruce rather than using a basic solid block. The result is designed around stronger attack, focused lows and a prominent midrange response.
For players who love the physical response of a large Gretsch but regularly use overdrive, modern amplification and high stage volumes, the Broadkaster LX is an especially strong choice.

Compatibility & Practical Buying Advice
The Broadkaster LX uses a standard 1/4-inch instrument output, so it integrates easily with conventional guitar amplifiers, pedalboards, audio interfaces and wireless systems.
The Pro Twin Six pickups make an excellent platform for:
-
Overdrive
-
Boost
-
Distortion
-
Tremolo
-
Chorus and modulation
-
Delay
-
Reverb
-
Compression
The centre-block design means higher-gain pedal setups are much more practical than they would be with many fully hollow electric guitars.
The String-Thru Bigsby is intended primarily for controlled expressive vibrato. Gentle movement normally produces the most musical results and helps maintain a stable setup.
Story & Context
The Broadkaster name is one of the oldest in Gretsch history, originally appearing on Gretsch drums during the 20th century before eventually becoming associated with the company's modern high-performance guitar range.
Today's Broadkaster guitars represent a different side of Gretsch from traditional fully hollow designs. They retain recognisable Gretsch styling while using centre-block construction to accommodate higher output, greater gain and contemporary live performance requirements.
The modern Broadkaster LX develops that concept further with its redesigned Channel Core centre block, deeper cutaways and Pro Twin Six pickups.
Rather than simply recreating a historic Gretsch model, it is designed as a professional contemporary Gretsch: visually familiar, but engineered for guitarists who expect modern control, powerful electronics and premium stage hardware.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Gretsch Broadkaster LX Center Block in Black with Gold Hardware is a serious modern Gretsch for players who want more output and control than a traditional hollow-body design while retaining unmistakable Gretsch character.
The Channel Core construction and Pro Twin Six pickups are the key ingredients. Together they make this guitar equally capable of handling articulate clean sounds, blues, atmospheric effects and surprisingly aggressive driven tones.
The combination of gloss Black, gold hardware and gold Bigsby also gives this version enormous visual presence without relying on a figured top.
Best suited for: Professional players, serious gigging musicians and Gretsch fans looking for a powerful premium centre-block guitar.
Customers usually upgrade from: Gretsch Streamliner and Electromatic centre-block models, or mid-range semi-hollow and solid-body guitars.
Most commonly paired with: Premium valve amplifiers, overdrive, boost, delay, reverb and professional pedalboard systems.
Our tip: Make use of the individual pickup volumes. Setting different levels for the neck and bridge pickups allows the three-way selector to provide both a tonal change and an instant change in output level.
Showroom feedback: The Broadkaster LX feels noticeably more focused and controlled than a traditional fully hollow Gretsch when gain increases. The rolled ebony board, locking tuners and deeper cutaways also make it feel like an instrument designed around serious everyday playing rather than simply vintage styling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Broadkaster LX different from a traditional hollow-body Gretsch?
Its Channel Core centre block gives the guitar greater resistance to feedback, a more focused response and improved control when using higher levels of gain. It still retains resonant body chambers, so it does not behave exactly like a conventional solid-body guitar.
Are the Pro Twin Six pickups suitable for rock?
Yes. The bridge Pro Twin Six in particular is substantially more powerful than many traditional Gretsch-style pickups and is well suited to driven rhythm and lead tones.
What does the master no-load tone control do?
At its maximum setting, a no-load tone control effectively removes itself from the normal tone circuit, allowing the pickups to deliver their clearest and most direct response. Rolling it back brings the tone circuit progressively into play.
What does the treble-bleed circuit do?
The treble-bleed circuit helps retain high-frequency clarity when you reduce the master volume, making it easier to clean up an overdriven amplifier without the sound becoming excessively dark.
Is the String-Thru Bigsby easier to restring?
Yes. The strings pass through the Bigsby string bar rather than having to be hooked over traditional retaining pins, simplifying one of the more fiddly aspects of restringing a conventional Bigsby.
Is the Broadkaster LX suitable for high-gain playing?
The Channel Core construction and high-output humbuckers make it much better suited to gain than a traditional fully hollow Gretsch. Extremely high-gain rigs can still create feedback with any resonant guitar, but the Broadkaster LX is designed to provide substantially greater control.
Is the ebony fingerboard suitable for lead playing?
Yes. Its 12-inch radius, rolled edges and medium-jumbo frets create a smooth, comfortable platform for bends and lead playing while remaining equally useful for chord work.
Why are Luminlay side dots useful?
Luminlay markers improve fingerboard reference visibility on dark stages, making them a useful practical feature for live musicians.
What type of player should choose the full-size Broadkaster LX over the Jr. LX?
Choose the full-size LX if you enjoy a larger double-cut body, substantial stage presence and generous upper-fret access. The Jr. is the better choice for players who specifically prefer a more compact instrument.
Why consider this Open Box Broadkaster LX?
It gives you access to the specification and performance of a Professional Collection Gretsch while potentially offering stronger value than a completely untouched example. The key attraction should remain the instrument itself: Channel Core construction, Pro Twin Six electronics, premium hardware and professional-level playability.
The Gretsch Broadkaster LX Center Block with String-Thru Bigsby and Gold Hardware in Black is a premium modern Gretsch that does not force you to choose between resonance and power. Its Channel Core construction, high-output Pro Twin Six pickups, ebony fingerboard and professional hardware make it equally at home on a major stage, in a recording studio or at the centre of a serious guitar collection.
