The 1974 Fender Stratocaster is a vintage U.S.-made solid-body electric guitar originally built by Fender during the 1970s, featuring the classic Stratocaster double-cutaway alder body and bolt-on maple neck. Over its life, it has been refinished in red, replacing the original factory lacquer to give the body a refreshed appearance. The neck has been refretted and the fingerboard re-lacquered, a combination of work that renews the playing surface and feel while preserving the underlying neck profile and scale length of approximately 25.5 inches typical of Stratocasters from that era.

At some point in its modification history, this guitar has had its original pickups replaced with 1984-era EMG pickups, shifting away from Fender’s original single-coil configuration to passive EMG designs. These pickups are mounted in the traditional Stratocaster neck, middle, and bridge positions and are connected to the standard control layout of master volume, two tone controls, and a five-position blade selector, though the tonal character will differ significantly from original 1974 single-coils due to the EMG voicing and output characteristics.

Hardware includes a synchronized tremolo bridge with six bent steel saddles and vintage-style tuning machines on the headstock, maintained or replaced during the refinish and refret process as needed to support playability and tuning stability. The combination of period construction with later upgrades—refinish, refret, and pickup replacement—results in an instrument that blends original 1970s Fender craftsmanship with later-era electronics and cosmetic renewal, giving it a unique character shaped by decades of use and modification.
