Description

The Electro-Harmonix Nano POG packs the acclaimed polyphonic tracking of the POG family into a compact, pedalboard-friendly enclosure. It generates one octave below and one octave above the notes you play, with independent level controls for the original dry signal and both shifted voices.

Unlike traditional monophonic octave pedals, the Nano POG can accurately process single notes, arpeggios and full chords. This makes it suitable for everything from subtle twelve-string-style shimmer and powerful sub-octave reinforcement to layered organ sounds and completely transformed octave textures.

A separate buffered Dry Out provides additional routing options for dual-amplifier rigs, recording setups and parallel effects chains. Silent footswitching, buffered bypass and the included Electro-Harmonix power supply complete a compact but highly versatile pitch-shifting pedal for guitar, bass and other compatible instruments.

Why Choose the Electro-Harmonix Nano POG?

Accurate Polyphonic Tracking

The Nano POG is designed to track full chords as well as individual notes. This gives it far greater flexibility than a conventional monophonic octave pedal, which may struggle when more than one note is played at a time.

It can be used with:

  • Single-note melodies

  • Lead guitar phrases

  • Arpeggiated chord patterns

  • Open and fretted chords

  • Bass lines

  • Keyboard parts

  • Layered ambient textures

Its responsive tracking helps the generated octave voices remain connected to the dynamics and timing of the original performance.

Independent Dry Signal Control

The Dry control sets the volume of the original, unshifted instrument signal at the Effect Out.

Turning the control up preserves more of the instrument’s natural tone and attack. Reducing it allows the generated octave voices to become more prominent, while turning it fully down produces a completely pitch-shifted effect.

This provides useful control over how natural or transformed the final sound becomes.

One-Octave-Down Voice

The Sub Octave control adds a signal one octave below the original note.

Used subtly, it can reinforce the low end and add weight beneath a guitar or keyboard part. At higher settings, it can create deep bass-like tones, heavy riffs and synth-inspired textures.

The sub-octave voice is particularly effective for:

  • Adding weight to single-note guitar lines

  • Creating bass parts from a guitar

  • Thickening bass guitar

  • Building organ-style sounds

  • Adding depth to ambient effects

  • Producing powerful octave riffs

One-Octave-Up Voice

The Octave Up control adds a signal one octave above the original pitch.

Lower settings introduce a light shimmer and additional definition. Higher settings create brighter and more obvious pitch-shifted effects.

Combining the upper octave with the original dry signal can produce convincing twelve-string-style textures, while combining it with the sub octave creates a broad, multi-register sound.

Three-Voice Blending

The Dry, Sub Octave and Octave Up controls can be used individually or blended together.

This simple three-control design can create a wide variety of sounds, including:

  • Original tone with subtle low-end reinforcement

  • Twelve-string-style guitar textures

  • High-octave lead sounds

  • Guitar-to-bass effects

  • Organ-style three-register layers

  • Dry-free octave effects

  • Wide ambient textures

  • Synth-inspired chord sounds

The lack of menus and secondary functions makes it easy to adjust the sound quickly during a rehearsal, recording session or live performance.

Organ-Style Sounds

Blending the original signal with both octave voices creates three simultaneous registers.

When used with sustained chords or smooth single-note playing, this can produce an organ-like character. Additional compression, modulation, delay or reverb can expand the effect further and create rich keyboard-inspired textures.

Twelve-String-Style Textures

Mixing the dry signal with a moderate amount of Octave Up can simulate some of the bright, layered character associated with a twelve-string instrument.

Because the Nano POG is polyphonic, this effect can be applied to chords and arpeggios rather than being restricted to single notes.

Separate Buffered Dry Output

The Dry Out provides a buffered copy of the original input signal at a constant level. It is independent of the front-panel Dry control.

This output can be used to send the unaffected instrument signal to:

  • A second amplifier

  • A separate effects chain

  • A recording interface

  • A mixer

  • A re-amping system

  • A dedicated clean channel

The Effect Out can simultaneously carry the selected blend of dry, lower-octave and upper-octave signals.

This allows the Nano POG to form the centre of a dual-signal or parallel-processing rig without requiring an additional splitter pedal.

Compact Nano Enclosure

The Nano POG provides essential POG functions in a compact die-cast enclosure.

Its small footprint makes it easier to fit onto crowded pedalboards, while the straightforward control layout remains accessible during live use.

Silent Footswitching

The pedal uses silent electronic switching to reduce mechanical noise during activation and bypass.

This is particularly useful during recording sessions, quieter performances and arrangements where obvious footswitch noise could be distracting.

Buffered Bypass

Buffered bypass helps preserve signal strength through longer cable runs and pedalboards containing several effects.

This can reduce the high-frequency loss that may occur when an instrument signal travels through a large rig.

Why Choose a Polyphonic Octave Pedal?

A traditional monophonic octave effect is normally designed to process one note at a time. Playing chords into this type of pedal can result in unstable or unpredictable tracking.

A polyphonic octave generator processes several notes simultaneously, making it suitable for rhythm guitar, chordal playing, arpeggios and keyboard parts as well as single-note melodies.

Polyphonic octave effects can be used to:

  • Extend the apparent range of an instrument

  • Add bass beneath guitar chords

  • Create upper-octave shimmer

  • Build layered ensemble sounds

  • Simulate twelve-string textures

  • Produce organ-style effects

  • Thicken recorded parts

  • Split clean and processed signals

  • Create experimental soundscapes

The Nano POG focuses on the three most useful voices: the original pitch, one octave below and one octave above.

Who Is the Electro-Harmonix Nano POG For?

Guitarists

The Nano POG can add sub-octave weight to riffs, upper-octave sparkle to chords and layered textures to lead parts.

Bassists

A controlled upper octave can add definition and synth-like character to bass lines, while the sub octave can produce extremely deep textures.

Singer-Songwriters

The upper octave can add a twelve-string-style quality to selected sections without requiring a second instrument.

Ambient and Post-Rock Players

Combining the octave voices with reverb, delay and modulation can create broad, evolving soundscapes.

Worship Guitarists

Polyphonic chord tracking and upper-octave shimmer make the pedal useful for spacious, layered rhythm sounds.

Keyboard and Synthesiser Players

The Nano POG can process compatible instrument signals to create wider octave stacks and organ-inspired textures.

Recording Musicians

The separate Dry Out allows clean and processed signals to be captured or routed independently.

Players with Compact Pedalboards

The Nano enclosure provides professional polyphonic octave effects without occupying the space required by larger multi-function pitch pedals.

Electro-Harmonix Nano POG Compared with Other Octave Pedals

Nano POG vs Electro-Harmonix Micro POG

Both pedals provide polyphonic tracking, Dry, Sub Octave and Octave Up controls, and separate effect and dry outputs.

The Nano POG delivers these core functions in a smaller enclosure, making it especially suitable for compact pedalboards.

Nano POG vs Electro-Harmonix POG2

The POG2 provides a larger range of octave voices and additional sound-shaping features, including filtering, attack control and preset storage.

The Nano POG is easier to operate and occupies significantly less pedalboard space. It is the stronger option for players who primarily need one upper octave, one lower octave and straightforward blending.

Nano POG vs Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork

The Pitch Fork offers a wider selection of musical intervals and supports expression-controlled pitch movement.

The Nano POG is focused specifically on blending the dry signal with simultaneous upper and lower octaves. Its dedicated level controls make it particularly immediate for organ sounds, twelve-string textures and three-register octave layering.

Nano POG vs a Monophonic Octave Pedal

A monophonic octave pedal may be ideal for traditional single-note octave effects but can struggle when processing chords.

The Nano POG is designed to track full chords, arpeggios and single notes, making it better suited to rhythm playing and layered polyphonic textures.

Nano POG vs a Dedicated Bass Octave Pedal

A dedicated bass octave pedal may provide additional tone controls, filtering or analogue-style sub-octave sounds.

The Nano POG offers polyphonic tracking and simultaneous upper and lower octaves, making it a more flexible option for bassists who want both conventional low-octave reinforcement and brighter synth-like voices.
