Why Choose the Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork+?

Two Independent Pitch-Shifting Engines

The Pitch Fork+ contains two separate pitch-shifting engines that can be configured independently.

Each voice can be placed above or below the original note, allowing combinations such as:

  • One octave below and one octave above

  • A perfect fifth and an upper octave

  • Parallel fourths and fifths

  • Two slightly detuned voices

  • Different extended intervals

  • Multi-octave organ-style textures

  • Low and high harmony layers

Because Shift 1 and Shift 2 have separate volume controls, each harmony can be positioned precisely within the overall sound.

Three-Octave Pitch Range

Both shift engines can transpose the signal across a range extending from three octaves below to three octaves above the original pitch.

The available intervals cover semitone-based and octave-based shifts, including common musical intervals such as:

  • Minor and major seconds

  • Minor and major thirds

  • Perfect fourths and fifths

  • Minor and major sixths

  • Minor and major sevenths

  • One, two and three octaves

  • Extended ninths, tenths, elevenths, twelfths and higher intervals

This wide range allows the Pitch Fork+ to perform the roles of an octave pedal, harmoniser, detuning effect and creative pitch processor within one enclosure.

Accurate Polyphonic Tracking

The Pitch Fork+ is designed to process both individual notes and full chords.

Its polyphonic operation makes it suitable for:

  • Chord-based octave effects

  • Alternate-tuning simulations

  • Twelve-string-style textures

  • Bass reinforcement beneath chords

  • Layered ambient parts

  • Keyboard and synthesiser processing

Players are not restricted to single-note melodies when using its pitch-shifting functions.

Dedicated Dry and Shift Level Controls

Three front-panel volume controls provide direct control over the main components of the sound:

Dry

Controls the level of the original, unshifted instrument signal.

Shift 1

Controls the volume of the first pitch-shifted voice.

Shift 2

Controls the volume of the second pitch-shifted voice.

This layout makes it easy to create a wide variety of mixes. The dry sound can remain dominant with subtle harmony underneath, or it can be removed completely for fully transformed pitch effects.

Fine Detuning up to 99 Cents

Each shift engine can be detuned by as much as 99 cents above or below its selected pitch.

Small detuning values can create:

  • Natural doubling effects

  • Chorus-like movement

  • Wider stereo textures

  • Twelve-string-style sounds

  • Subtle pitch instability

  • Rich three-voice ensembles

Larger settings can produce intentionally dissonant, unstable or experimental effects.

The second shift voice can also combine its selected interval and detune value, allowing an octave or harmony to be offset by a precise number of cents.

Flexible Main and Aux Outputs

The Pitch Fork+ provides separate Main and Aux outputs with several routing configurations.

The Aux output can carry:

  • The unaffected input signal

  • The Dry channel

  • Shift 2

  • Dry and Shift 2

  • All three voices

  • Special split configurations between Main and Aux

This allows the pedal to operate within single-amplifier, dual-amplifier and recording setups.

For example, one amplifier can receive a lower octave while another receives the original signal and upper harmony. A recording interface can also capture separate components for further processing and mixing.

Programmable User Footswitch

The dedicated User footswitch can be assigned to a variety of functions.

Depending on the selected mode, it can be used to:

  • Mute or activate an individual shift voice

  • Control multiple voice levels

  • Blend between dry and shifted sounds

  • Crossfade between Shift 1 and Shift 2

  • Jump to another preset

  • Create preset chains

  • Activate performance-based effects

The User footswitch operates independently from the main Bypass footswitch and has its own status indicator.

Latching and Momentary Operation

The main Bypass footswitch can operate in conventional latching mode or as a momentary effect control.

In latching mode, each press switches between the effect and buffered bypass.

Momentary mode activates the selected pitch effect while the footswitch is held down and returns to bypass when released. This is useful for:

  • Brief octave accents

  • Whammy-style pitch movements

  • Sudden harmony changes

  • Short glissando effects

  • Individual chord transformations

  • Experimental rhythmic processing

Expression Pedal and Control Voltage Input

The EXP input accepts a compatible TRS expression pedal or a 0–5V control voltage signal.

Expression control can be assigned to several groups of parameters, including:

  • Shift 1 pitch

  • Shift 2 pitch

  • Both shift pitches

  • Glissando rise time

  • Glissando fall time

  • Individual voice volume

  • Multiple voice volumes

  • Dry-to-shift blending

  • Crossfading between shifted voices

This transforms the Pitch Fork+ into a highly expressive performance instrument rather than a fixed pitch effect.

Whammy-Style Pitch Bending

Assigning pitch frequency to an expression pedal allows continuous movement between the original signal and selected pitch interval.

This can produce:

  • Rising and falling octave sweeps

  • Dive-bomb effects

  • Smooth harmony transitions

  • Artificial whammy-bar movement

  • Pedal-steel-inspired bends

  • Extreme three-octave pitch shifts

The two independent engines allow more complex movements than a conventional single-voice pitch pedal.

Adjustable Glissando

Glissando controls determine how quickly the shifted sound moves between pitch positions.

Separate rise and fall behaviour can be controlled, allowing fast jumps in one direction and slower movement in the other.

This can create:

  • Smooth portamento

  • Gradual octave transitions

  • Mechanical pitch jumps

  • Slow ambient movement

  • Synthesiser-style glide

  • Dramatic momentary effects

100 Preset Locations

The Pitch Fork+ provides 100 memory locations for saving and recalling complete effect configurations.

Saved settings can include pitch intervals, detuning, expression assignments, output routing, footswitch behaviour and cross-modulation parameters.

Ten factory presets are preloaded, leaving additional locations available for custom sounds. Factory presets can also be overwritten and restored later.

Preset storage is particularly useful for musicians who require several different pitch effects during a performance.

Preset Chains

The programmable User footswitch can be configured to jump between preset locations.

Multiple presets can be linked together, creating a sequence that can be advanced during a performance. A chain can also loop back to its starting point.

This allows one footswitch to move through sounds for different sections of a song without requiring constant menu navigation.

Cross-Modulation Effects

X-MOD mode allows the two pitch voices to modulate one another.

The amount of Shift 1 modulation applied to Shift 2 and the amount of Shift 2 modulation applied to Shift 1 can be adjusted independently.

Lower settings can add subtle movement and complexity. Higher settings produce more experimental textures, including:

  • Frequency-modulation-style sounds

  • Ring-modulator-style effects

  • Metallic harmonics

  • Robotic textures

  • Dissonant synth-like tones

  • Unpredictable pitch interactions

External Foot-Controller Support

The EXT connection accepts a compatible three-button foot controller such as the Electro-Harmonix Triple Foot Controller.

External switches can be used to:

  • Move through modes

  • Enter or exit submenus

  • Increase parameter values

  • Decrease parameter values

  • Load presets

  • Navigate stored sounds

This provides greater hands-free control when the pedal is used on stage.

Clear Four-Character Display

The onboard display shows the selected parameter, interval, preset or menu setting.

This provides a clear reference when editing detailed configurations and recalling saved sounds. Illuminated mode buttons also indicate which area of the pedal is currently being adjusted.

Why Choose a Polyphonic Pitch-Shifting Pedal?

A polyphonic pitch shifter can process full chords as well as individual notes, making it much more flexible than a traditional monophonic octave or harmoniser effect.

It can be used to create conventional musical effects such as octaves, fifths and detuned doubling, but it can also transform the perceived tuning and range of an instrument.

Common applications include:

  • Simulating lower guitar tunings

  • Creating baritone-style sounds

  • Producing twelve-string textures

  • Adding bass beneath guitar chords

  • Building organ-like layers

  • Creating harmonised lead parts

  • Widening recorded instruments

  • Designing experimental textures

  • Adding upper octaves before distortion

  • Producing synth-like modulation effects

A dual-engine pedal such as the Pitch Fork+ offers even greater flexibility because two different shifted voices can operate at the same time.

Who Is the Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork+ For?

Guitarists Using Alternate Tunings

The wide downward pitch range can simulate lower tunings without requiring the instrument to be physically retuned between songs.

Lead Guitarists

Two harmony voices can be combined with the dry signal to produce rich layered lead sounds. Presets allow different intervals to be prepared for individual songs.

Ambient and Experimental Players

Long glissando times, detuning, cross-modulation and expression control make the Pitch Fork+ ideal for evolving soundscapes and unconventional textures.

Bassists

Lower and upper octaves can add weight, definition or synthesiser-like character to bass lines. The Aux output also enables split-signal amplifier setups.

Keyboard and Synthesiser Players

Polyphonic tracking and control-voltage compatibility allow the pedal to become part of both conventional keyboard systems and experimental electronic setups.

Recording Musicians

Separate outputs and adjustable voice levels allow dry and shifted components to be recorded or processed independently.

Live Performers

Preset storage, programmable switching and external foot-controller compatibility make the Pitch Fork+ practical for musicians who need repeatable sounds throughout a set.

Sound Designers

Extreme intervals, detuning and cross-modulation provide a substantial range of source material for film, game, electronic and experimental audio production.

Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork+ Compared with Other Pitch Pedals

Compared with the Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork

The standard Pitch Fork provides a straightforward route to polyphonic pitch shifting in a smaller enclosure. It can shift up, down or in both directions simultaneously and supports expression control.

The Pitch Fork+ adds:

  • Two fully independent shift engines

  • Separate Dry, Shift 1 and Shift 2 level controls

  • Precise detuning

  • 100 preset locations

  • Main and Aux output routing

  • Programmable User footswitch

  • External foot-controller compatibility

  • Cross-modulation

  • Expanded expression assignments

  • A display and menu system

The original Pitch Fork is ideal for simple, immediate pitch effects. The Pitch Fork+ is better suited to players requiring detailed control, repeatable presets and complex multi-voice processing.

Compared with a Conventional Octave Pedal

A conventional octave pedal normally provides one or two fixed octave voices.

The Pitch Fork+ can produce octaves, but it also offers a much wider selection of musical intervals, fine detuning, expression-controlled bends and programmable routing.

Compared with a Dedicated Whammy-Style Pedal

A dedicated treadle-based pitch pedal provides immediate foot control but may occupy considerably more pedalboard space.

The Pitch Fork+ can produce similar pitch sweeps when connected to an expression pedal while also offering two pitch engines, stored presets and advanced harmony functions.

Compared with a Key-Based Harmoniser

A key-aware harmoniser automatically selects different harmony notes according to a musical scale.

The Pitch Fork+ applies fixed intervals to the incoming notes. This makes it particularly effective for octaves, parallel harmonies, alternate tunings and experimental effects rather than automatically generated diatonic harmony.
