2021 Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass V 3-Colour Sunburst, (Used, Comm)
Description
The 2021 Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass V in 3-Colour Sunburst takes the familiar Jazz Bass formula and expands it into a highly capable five-string instrument designed for professional stage, studio and session work.
Its alder body is paired with a maple Slim “C” neck and rosewood fingerboard, while two V-Mod II Jazz Bass V single-coils provide the clarity, articulation and pickup-blending versatility expected from a Jazz Bass. The additional low B string extends the instrument's usable range without changing the straightforward passive control layout.
Modern refinements including rolled fingerboard edges, a Super-Natural satin neck finish, sculpted heel, Posiflex graphite reinforcement and a HiMass Vintage bridge make this a more contemporary working instrument than a strict vintage recreation.
Serial US210029102 identifies this as a 2021 USA-made example. This Pre-Owned bass is offered in Good condition and includes a hardcase.

Why Choose The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass V?
Extended Five-String Range
The additional low B string gives you access to deeper notes without relying on down-tuning, making the Jazz Bass V particularly useful for modern arrangements, contemporary rock, worship, soul, R&B and studio work.
V-Mod II Jazz Bass V Pickups
Fender voices the V-Mod II pickups specifically for their positions, giving the bass the articulation and pickup-blending flexibility associated with a Jazz Bass while accommodating the wider frequency range of a five-string instrument.
Slim “C” Neck With Rolled Edges
The Slim “C” profile keeps the wider five-string neck manageable, while rolled fingerboard edges give the neck a smoother, more played-in feel along its sides.
HiMass Vintage Bridge
The five-saddle HiMass Vintage bridge can be strung through the body or top-loaded, giving players some flexibility in string feel while providing a substantial and stable bridge platform.
Professional II Neck Refinements
The sculpted heel improves upper-register access, while Posiflex graphite rods reinforce the neck against movement caused by changing environmental conditions.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
American Professional II Jazz Bass V vs American Professional II Jazz Bass
The four-string version provides the familiar traditional Jazz Bass range and slightly narrower neck, while the Jazz Bass V is better suited to players who genuinely need the extended low register of a fifth string.
American Professional II Jazz Bass V vs American Ultra Jazz Bass V
The American Ultra V takes a more contemporary approach with active electronics and additional onboard tone shaping. The Professional II is the stronger option for players who prefer a simpler passive Jazz Bass signal path.
Jazz Bass V vs Precision Bass V
A Precision Bass V focuses on the direct punch of a split-coil pickup, whereas the Jazz Bass V offers two independent pickups that can be blended for a wider range of midrange and attack characteristics.
American Professional II Jazz Bass V vs Player-Series 5-String
A Player-series five-string can be an excellent working instrument, while the American Professional II adds USA production, refined neck finishing, V-Mod II pickups, graphite reinforcement and premium bridge hardware.
Who Is It For?
Working Five-String Bassists
The Professional II specification is particularly well suited to players who need a reliable instrument for frequent gigs, rehearsals and recording sessions.
Funk And Soul Players
The dual-pickup Jazz Bass layout provides plenty of attack and definition for fingerstyle playing, while blending the pickups gives access to a wide variety of supporting tones.
Rock And Alternative Bassists
The bridge and neck pickups can be balanced to deliver anything from a fuller supporting sound to a more aggressive, defined midrange character.
Studio And Session Players
A passive five-string Jazz Bass is an extremely useful studio tool because it combines extended range with simple electronics and familiar pickup blending.
Four-String Players Moving To Five
The 34" scale keeps the overall string feel recognisably Fender while adding a low B string for players who need more range without moving to an unusually long-scale instrument.

Why Choose A Five-String Jazz Bass?
A five-string bass extends the instrument below standard low E with an additional low B string, giving access to lower notes while allowing existing bass lines to be played in alternative positions further up the neck.
This can be particularly useful when working with modern arrangements, keyboard-heavy productions or songs in lower keys. The Jazz Bass format adds another advantage: its two-pickup passive electronics let you alter attack, warmth and midrange character simply by changing the balance between the two pickups.

Story & Context: Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass V
Fender introduced the original Jazz Bass in 1960 as a more upmarket companion to the Precision Bass. Its offset body, narrower neck and pair of single-coil pickups created a distinct alternative that would go on to become one of the most important electric bass designs in popular music.
The American Professional Series arrived in 2017, replacing the long-running American Standard range as Fender's principal USA professional-player family.
Fender later evolved that concept into the American Professional II Series, retaining the familiar foundations while introducing refinements including updated V-Mod II pickups, rolled fingerboard edges, revised neck finishing and sculpted heel designs.
This 2021 Jazz Bass V comes from the early period of the Professional II generation and combines those updates with the additional range of Fender's five-string Jazz Bass format.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The 2021 Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass V is a strong professional all-rounder for players who need extended range without abandoning the familiar feel and straightforward electronics of a Jazz Bass.
The V-Mod II pickups, Slim “C” neck, rolled edges and HiMass bridge provide genuinely useful modern refinements, while the passive two-volume-and-tone layout keeps operation simple.
Best suited for: Gigging, session and recording bassists who need a versatile passive five-string.
Customers usually upgrade from: Four-string Jazz Basses, Player-series instruments and entry-to-mid-level five-string basses.
Most commonly paired with: Quality bass amplification, compression, preamps, DI boxes, overdrive and studio recording equipment.
Our tip: Spend time balancing the two pickup volumes rather than automatically running both wide open. Small changes can noticeably alter attack and midrange placement.
Showroom feedback: The Professional II Jazz Bass V manages to add genuine five-string versatility without making the instrument feel unnecessarily complicated.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the fifth string add?
The fifth string is normally tuned to low B, extending the bass below the standard low E and providing additional fingering options across the neck.
Is a five-string Jazz Bass much harder to play than a four-string?
The neck is wider, so there is an adjustment period, but the 34" scale remains familiar to players accustomed to standard Fender basses.
Are the V-Mod II pickups active?
No. The Jazz Bass V uses passive pickups and controls, so there is no battery to maintain.
Can the bridge be top-loaded?
Yes. The HiMass Vintage bridge supports both top-loading and string-through-body stringing.
Is this suitable for drop tunings?
Yes, although the extra low B string often removes the need for extensive down-tuning. Significant changes in tuning or string gauge may require a setup adjustment.
Is it suitable for direct recording?
Yes. It can run through a suitable DI, bass preamp, modeller or instrument input on an audio interface.
Can I request a closer look before purchasing?
Yes. Our Request a Video Demo option is useful if you'd like to see and hear this individual Pre-Owned Fender Jazz Bass V in greater detail before purchasing.
