Description

Quick Product Summary

The Gretsch G2622T Streamliner Center Block Double-Cut with Bigsby in Brandywine combines classic Gretsch styling with a versatile centre-block design built for players who want semi-hollow character without giving up control at higher stage volumes.

Its 16-inch double-cutaway laminated maple body uses a chambered centre block to increase attack and sustain while helping resist unwanted feedback. That makes the G2622T equally comfortable handling clean chords, blues, indie, rock, alternative styles and more heavily driven sounds.

A pair of Broad’Tron BT-3S humbucking pickups provides strong mids, controlled lows and clear highs, while a push/pull master volume adds coil splitting for a broader range of cleaner and more cutting sounds. Add the Bigsby B70 vibrato, anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge, real bone nut and classic Gretsch control layout, and this becomes an impressively flexible guitar for the money.

Fair Deal Quality Control Assessment

Every new electric guitar is checked before leaving Fair Deal Music.

For a centre-block electric guitar such as the G2622T, our checks cover the important playing and functional areas including electronics, pickup switching, controls, tuning operation, bridge and Bigsby function, hardware security and general playability.

The guitar is also checked for normal operation across both pickups and the push/pull coil-split function before dispatch.

Service / Setup Work

The guitar is checked and set up before leaving the shop.

As with any wooden instrument, setup can move slightly during delivery because changes in temperature and humidity can affect neck relief, action and tuning stability. A small adjustment after arrival can occasionally be beneficial depending on your playing preference and the environment in which the guitar is kept.

Why Choose The Gretsch G2622T Streamliner?

Centre-Block Construction For Stage-Friendly Semi-Hollow Tone

The G2622T combines an arched laminated maple body with a chambered centre block. You still get the visual style and responsive character associated with a semi-hollow guitar, but with greater resistance to unwanted feedback when using higher volume or more gain.

Broad’Tron BT-3S Pickups

Gretsch's Broad’Tron BT-3S humbuckers use a combination of Alnico 5 and Alnico 2 magnets. They are voiced for stronger midrange, tight but full low frequencies and smooth, clear highs, giving the Streamliner enough punch for rock while retaining the definition needed for cleaner styles.

Push/Pull Coil Splitting

Pulling the master volume control activates the coil split, expanding the guitar beyond its standard humbucking sounds. It is particularly useful when you want a leaner clean sound, extra definition for rhythm work or a different texture for layered recordings.

Bigsby B70 Vibrato

The Bigsby B70 gives the G2622T the gentle pitch movement that has become closely associated with Gretsch guitars. It is ideal for subtle chord shimmer, expressive lead playing, rockabilly-style phrasing and atmospheric vibrato effects.

Individual Pickup Volumes Plus Master Controls

Rather than relying on a simple two-volume arrangement, the G2622T gives each pickup its own volume control alongside a master tone and master volume. This lets you balance the neck and bridge pickups in advance and then control the overall output from one master volume.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives

Gretsch G2622T vs Gretsch G2622 V-Stoptail

These guitars share the same full-size centre-block concept and Broad’Tron BT-3S pickup platform, but their tailpieces create the main practical difference. Choose the G2622T if you want the expressive possibilities of a Bigsby vibrato. The V-Stoptail G2622 is the simpler choice for players who have no need for vibrato and prefer a more straightforward fixed-tailpiece setup.

Gretsch G2622T vs Gretsch G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr.

The G2655T Center Block Jr. uses the same BT-3S pickup concept and coil-splitting functionality in a smaller-bodied format. The G2622T is better suited to players who enjoy the feel and visual presence of a traditional full-size semi-hollow guitar, while the G2655T is the stronger option for players who want Gretsch centre-block sounds in a more compact body.

Gretsch G2622T vs Gretsch G5622T Electromatic

The G5622T Electromatic is the logical upgrade within the Gretsch centre-block range. It moves to Black Top Broad’Tron pickups, a chambered spruce centre block, maple neck, Graph Tech NuBone nut and a master volume with treble-bleed circuit.

Choose the G2622T Streamliner if value, coil splitting and access to the essential Gretsch centre-block experience are the priorities. Choose the G5622T if you want to move further into the Electromatic specification and traditional Gretsch feature set.

Gretsch G2622T vs A Traditional Solid-Body Humbucker Guitar

A conventional solid-body guitar is generally more compact and acoustically controlled, but it will not produce quite the same physical resonance or semi-hollow response. The G2622T is particularly appealing if you want humbucker power combined with a more open-feeling body, Gretsch styling and Bigsby vibrato.

Who Is The Gretsch G2622T For?

The G2622T is particularly well suited to:

  • Players buying their first Gretsch

  • Guitarists moving from a solid-body to a semi-hollow design

  • Blues and rock players who want warmth without losing definition

  • Indie and alternative musicians using modulation, delay and reverb

  • Rockabilly and roots players who want Bigsby vibrato

  • Gigging musicians who need greater feedback resistance than a fully hollow guitar

  • Recording musicians looking for multiple pickup voices

  • Players who appreciate vintage-inspired styling but want modern versatility

It is also a strong all-rounder for anyone who likes the look and feel of a larger semi-hollow instrument but does not want to be limited to low-gain playing.

Playing Styles & Applications

The Gretsch G2622T Streamliner can comfortably cover rock, blues, indie, alternative, pop, rockabilly, roots, country-influenced playing, soul and general-purpose electric guitar work.

With both pickups in full humbucking mode, there is enough output and midrange authority for driven rhythm and lead playing. The bridge pickup gives riffs greater attack, while the neck pickup provides a smoother option for blues leads, clean chord work and warmer melodic parts.

Engaging the coil split opens up leaner textures that can work particularly well for cleaner rhythm tracks, effects-heavy parts and arrangements where a full humbucker sound takes up too much space.

The Bigsby adds another creative element, particularly for players using reverb, delay or modulation.

Centre Block vs Hollow Body: Which Is Better?

A centre-block guitar combines elements of solid-body and hollow-body construction. The internal block provides additional structural mass through the centre of the instrument, while the surrounding body remains chambered.

The practical advantage is greater resistance to feedback and a more controlled response when using overdrive, distortion or higher stage volumes. A fully hollow Gretsch may be the better choice if maximum acoustic resonance and traditional hollow-body response are the priority, while the G2622T centre-block design is better suited to players who need to move easily between clean and driven sounds.

Compatibility & Practical Buying Advice

The G2622T uses a standard 1/4-inch output, making it compatible with conventional guitar amplifiers, pedalboards, audio interfaces and wireless systems.

The BT-3S pickups work particularly well with overdrive, boost, tremolo, reverb, delay and modulation. The centre-block construction also makes the guitar a practical option for players who use more gain than they might normally associate with a traditional semi-hollow instrument.

The Bigsby is designed for expressive vibrato rather than extreme pitch dives. Smooth, controlled movement generally gives the best musical results.

For transport, Gretsch lists the G2622T Gretsch Hardshell Case and G2162 Hollow Body Gig Bag as compatible optional protection.

Story & Context

The Gretsch Streamliner Collection is designed to bring recognisable Gretsch styling and playing character into a more accessible part of the range while incorporating features aimed at contemporary players.

The G2622T represents the full-size centre-block side of that idea. Its arched maple construction, F-holes, Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, Gretsch control layout and Bigsby vibrato clearly reference the visual language associated with classic Gretsch instruments, while the BT-3S pickups and coil-splitting system broaden its range considerably.

That combination is what makes this generation particularly interesting. It is not simply trying to recreate one vintage guitar specification; instead, it combines familiar Gretsch design cues with a pickup and switching system intended to handle a much wider range of modern playing situations.

Fair Deal Music Verdict

★★★★★ 5/5

The Gretsch G2622T Streamliner Center Block Double-Cut with Bigsby is an impressive route into the full-size Gretsch centre-block format. It looks unmistakably Gretsch, but features such as the BT-3S pickups and push/pull coil split give it considerably more tonal flexibility than its vintage-inspired appearance might suggest.

Best suited for: Players wanting semi-hollow character, Bigsby expression and enough versatility to move between clean and driven guitar sounds.

Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level solid-body or semi-hollow electric guitars when they want a more distinctive instrument with greater tonal character.

Most commonly paired with: Low-to-medium-gain overdrive, reverb, tremolo, delay and a responsive clean or vintage-style guitar amplifier.

Our tip: Use the individual pickup volumes to create two contrasting sounds, then switch between them with the three-way toggle. It is one of the most useful features of the traditional Gretsch control layout.

Showroom feedback: The full-size 16-inch body gives the G2622T a substantial semi-hollow feel, but the centre-block construction keeps it much more manageable when gain and stage volume increase. The coil split is particularly useful for players who need one guitar to cover several different roles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gretsch G2622T fully hollow?

No. It uses centre-block construction, with a solid internal section running through the body and chambered areas around it. This provides more feedback resistance than a fully hollow guitar.

What do Broad’Tron BT-3S pickups sound like?

They are humbucking pickups designed around stronger mids, tight low frequencies and clear highs. They have enough body for overdriven sounds while retaining the definition needed for clean and semi-hollow styles.

Does the G2622T have coil splitting?

Yes. The master volume control has a push/pull function that splits the BT-3S pickups for leaner, more single-coil-like sounds.

Is the Bigsby suitable for heavy dive bombs?

No. A Bigsby is designed primarily for gentle, expressive pitch movement rather than the extreme range associated with locking tremolo systems. It works particularly well for chord shimmer and subtle melodic vibrato.

Is the G2622T suitable for rock?

Yes. The combination of humbucking pickups and centre-block construction makes it much more capable with overdrive and higher stage volume than many players expect from a semi-hollow-looking guitar.

Is the G2622T good for beginners?

It can be an excellent choice for a committed beginner who likes larger-bodied guitars. The controls offer plenty to explore without being difficult to understand, although the 16-inch body is physically larger than a typical Stratocaster or Les Paul-style guitar.

What is the difference between the G2622T and G2655T?

The G2622T uses the larger full-size centre-block body. The G2655T Center Block Jr. offers a similar general concept in a smaller body, making it better suited to players who prioritise compact dimensions.

Should I choose a Streamliner or Electromatic Gretsch?

The Streamliner range is a strong choice for players seeking accessible Gretsch design and versatile modern features. Electromatic models move further up the range with different pickups, hardware and construction details. The right choice depends on budget, preferred pickup response and how traditional you want the specification to be.

What string gauge does the G2622T use?

It comes factory fitted with .010–.046 nickel-plated steel strings. Changing significantly from that gauge can require minor setup adjustments.

Is the 24.75-inch scale comfortable for players used to Gibson-style guitars?

Yes. At 24.75 inches, the scale length will feel familiar to many players coming from shorter-scale Gibson and Epiphone-style instruments, particularly compared with a 25.5-inch Fender-style scale.

The Gretsch G2622T Streamliner Center Block Double-Cut with Bigsby in Brandywine is a strong choice for players who want more personality than a conventional solid-body without sacrificing practical versatility. Its centre-block construction, flexible BT-3S electronics and Bigsby vibrato make it equally capable as a characterful clean guitar, a blues and rock instrument or an effects-friendly platform for modern alternative sounds.
