Description

Quick Product Summary

The Gretsch G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. Double-Cut with Bigsby in Tropico packs the character of a Gretsch semi-hollow electric into a more compact, comfortable body, making it an excellent choice for players who want centre-block resonance without the size of a traditional full-bodied semi-hollow.

Its arched laminated maple body uses a chambered centre block to reinforce the guitar while helping control unwanted feedback at higher volumes. That makes the G2655T equally comfortable with sparkling clean sounds, bluesy breakup, crunchy indie rhythm tones and more driven rock sounds.

Two Broad’Tron BT-3S humbuckers provide a powerful, versatile voice with plenty of body and definition. A push/pull coil split on the master volume adds brighter, leaner sounds, while the genuine Bigsby B50 vibrato gives you smooth pitch movement for expressive chords, melodic lines and atmospheric textures.

Finished in distinctive Tropico with aged white binding, cream detailing and nickel hardware, this is a Streamliner designed for players who want classic Gretsch personality in a compact and genuinely versatile electric guitar.

The G2655T is checked before dispatch for suitable action, neck relief, tuning operation, intonation and general playability.

The pickup controls, coil split and Bigsby vibrato are also checked for correct operation.

Why Choose The Gretsch G2655T Streamliner?

Compact Centre-Block Design

The Center Block Jr. body gives the G2655T a smaller physical footprint than a full-size semi-hollow guitar, making it particularly comfortable for players who enjoy Gretsch styling and resonance but prefer something closer to the feel of a conventional solid-body electric.

Broad’Tron BT-3S Humbuckers

The Broad’Tron BT-3S pickups are designed to provide plenty of output and midrange presence while retaining useful clarity.

They suit clean chord work just as well as overdriven riffs, making the G2655T considerably more versatile than its vintage-inspired appearance might initially suggest.

Push/Pull Coil Splitting

Pull the master volume control to split the pickups and access a brighter, leaner response.

It does not attempt to turn the guitar into a traditional Strat-style single coil, but it gives you another genuinely useful tonal option for cleaner rhythm parts, recording layers and situations where the full humbucker sound feels too dense.

Bigsby B50 Vibrato

The Bigsby B50 adds smooth, subtle pitch movement for chord shimmer, melodic phrasing and atmospheric textures.

It is ideal for players who want expressive vibrato rather than dramatic dive-bomb effects.

Comfortable 24.75-Inch Scale

The 24.75-inch scale combines with a Soft “C” nato neck and 12-inch-radius laurel fingerboard for a familiar, comfortable feel.

The shorter scale also produces a slightly softer string feel than many longer-scale guitars fitted with the same gauge strings.

Gretsch G2655T vs Popular Alternatives

Gretsch G2655T vs G2655 Streamliner

The G2655 uses the same compact Center Block Jr. concept but replaces the Bigsby with a fixed V-Stoptail. Choose the G2655T if vibrato is part of your playing style; choose the fixed-tail G2655 if you prefer simpler hardware and do not need pitch modulation.

Gretsch G2655T vs G2622T Streamliner

The G2622T is the larger full-size Streamliner centre-block option. It offers more physical presence, while the G2655T is better suited to players who prefer a compact semi-hollow body that feels closer to a conventional electric guitar.

Gretsch G2655T vs G5622T Electromatic

The G5622T moves into the Electromatic collection and is aimed at players looking for a step further up the Gretsch range. The G2655T remains a particularly attractive choice when compact dimensions, coil splitting and accessible Streamliner value are priorities.

Gretsch G2655T vs G2420T Streamliner Hollow Body

The G2420T is a full hollow-body design and provides a more traditional large-bodied Gretsch experience. The G2655T's centre block makes it the stronger option for players regularly using overdrive, louder stage volumes and more contemporary guitar sounds.

Who Is The Gretsch G2655T For?

The G2655T is particularly well suited to guitarists who want semi-hollow character without committing to a large-bodied instrument.

It is a strong choice for:

  • Players buying their first semi-hollow electric

  • Blues and blues-rock guitarists

  • Indie and alternative musicians

  • Rock and pop players

  • Singer-songwriters

  • Guitarists who use reverb, delay and modulation

  • Players who enjoy Bigsby vibrato

  • Smaller-framed players who find full-size semi-hollows cumbersome

  • Guitarists moving from a solid-body electric

  • Players looking for a versatile first Gretsch

Playing Styles & Applications

The G2655T works particularly well for players who move between clean, edge-of-breakup and moderately driven tones.

For clean rhythm work, the centre-block maple construction and Broad’Tron pickups provide useful definition for chords and arpeggios. Engaging the coil split can lighten the response further when you need additional brightness.

Add overdrive and the full humbuckers deliver greater body and midrange presence, making the guitar a strong option for blues, indie, classic rock and alternative styles.

The Bigsby becomes particularly effective when combined with reverb or delay. Small movements of the arm can add subtle pitch variation to sustained chords and ambient textures without overwhelming the original note.

Compact Semi-Hollow vs Full-Size Semi-Hollow: Which Is Right For You?

A full-size semi-hollow guitar can offer a substantial feel and strong acoustic interaction, but the larger body is not comfortable for every player.

The G2655T Center Block Jr. gives you much of the visual and responsive character associated with a semi-hollow Gretsch in a more manageable format. It is easier to hold close to the body, particularly when playing seated, and will feel less unfamiliar to guitarists moving across from conventional solid-body electrics.

The internal centre block also helps make the guitar practical with pedals and driven amplifiers, giving you a useful balance between semi-hollow resonance and solid-body control.

Story & Context

The Streamliner name first appeared in the Gretsch catalogue during the 1950s, but the modern Streamliner Collection arrived in 2016 as a new range designed to combine recognisable Gretsch styling with accessible pricing and versatile contemporary performance.

The G2655T Center Block Jr. was part of that modern Streamliner concept from the beginning, offering players a smaller alternative to conventional full-size semi-hollow guitars.

Today's G2655T develops the idea further with Broad’Tron BT-3S pickups and push/pull coil splitting, expanding the tonal range while retaining the compact double-cutaway format and expressive Bigsby vibrato that have become central to the model.

The result is a guitar that draws on classic Gretsch visual language without being restricted to traditional rock 'n' roll or rockabilly sounds.

  • Tremolo and modulation effects

  • Pedal or clip-on tuner

Fair Deal Music Expert Verdict

★★★★★ 5/5

The Gretsch G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. in Tropico is a particularly easy guitar to recommend to players who love the idea of a Gretsch semi-hollow but do not necessarily want the size of a traditional full-bodied instrument.

Its compact body is comfortable, the centre-block construction makes it easy to use with pedals and overdrive, and the Broad’Tron BT-3S pickups provide enough output to cover far more than traditional vintage Gretsch sounds.

The addition of coil splitting and a Bigsby B50 gives the player plenty of creative options without turning the guitar into something unnecessarily complicated.

Best suited for: Blues, indie, alternative, pop and rock players wanting a compact semi-hollow guitar with Bigsby vibrato.

Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level solid-body guitars or basic semi-hollow electrics.

Most commonly paired with: Low-gain overdrive, reverb, delay and a clean or edge-of-breakup amplifier.

Our tip: Use the coil split as a contrast rather than expecting it to replace a dedicated single-coil guitar. It works particularly well for creating a brighter second rhythm sound without changing instruments.

Showroom feedback: The smaller Center Block Jr. body is one of the G2655T's biggest strengths. It gives players plenty of Gretsch character while remaining easy to hold and comfortable for longer playing sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the G2655T a semi-hollow guitar?

Yes. It uses a laminated maple body with an internal centre block, giving it more resonance than a conventional solid-body guitar while providing better feedback control than a fully hollow instrument.

Is the G2655T smaller than the G2622T?

Yes. The Center Block Jr. format is designed as the more compact option in the Streamliner centre-block family, making it particularly appealing to players who find larger semi-hollow guitars cumbersome.

What do Broad’Tron BT-3S pickups sound like?

They provide a relatively full, powerful humbucking response with enough clarity for clean playing and enough output for blues, rock and more driven styles.

What does the coil split do?

Pulling the master volume control splits the humbuckers to create a brighter and leaner sound. It gives you an additional tonal option for clean rhythm work, studio layering and contrasting song sections.

Is a Bigsby suitable for large dive bombs?

No. The Bigsby B50 is intended for smooth and relatively subtle pitch movement. It is ideal for chord shimmer, expressive vibrato and gentle pitch dips.

Can I use normal guitar pedals with the G2655T?

Yes. Its passive electronics work with standard effects pedals, multi-effects units, modellers and conventional guitar amplifiers.

Is the 24.75-inch scale comfortable for bends?

Many players find it very comfortable. The scale produces a slightly softer string feel than many longer-scale guitars fitted with the same gauge strings and tuned to the same pitch.

Can the G2655T handle distortion?

Yes. The centre-block construction makes it much more suitable for overdrive and distortion than a traditional fully hollow guitar. Extremely high volume and gain can still encourage feedback, as with most semi-hollow instruments.

Would the G2655T make a good first Gretsch?

Yes. It combines recognisable Gretsch styling with versatile pickups, comfortable dimensions and a wide enough tonal range to cover many musical styles.
