What Makes The Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 Special?

The Life Pedal V3 combines three complementary gain stages within one enclosure.

The signal begins with an analogue octave-up circuit inspired by vintage Shin-Ei-style octave fuzz designs, before feeding into a high-gain distortion section. A separate MOSFET clean boost then sits at the end of the signal chain, giving you additional output to drive an amplifier even harder.

V3 also adds a dedicated Octave footswitch, allowing the octave effect to be brought in and out during performance without changing the distortion setting.

Three Clipping Modes

The clipping switch gives the distortion section three distinct responses.

OpAmp

Removes the clipping diodes for maximum output and a raw, open and aggressive distortion character.

Asymmetrical

Uses silicon diodes and an LED for a smoother, slightly compressed response with a more valve-like character.

Symmetrical

Uses traditional silicon diode clipping for a tighter, more compressed distortion sound.

This gives the Life Pedal enough flexibility to work with different guitars, amplifiers and levels of saturation.

Analogue Octave Up

The octave section uses a fully analogue full-wave rectifier circuit.

Turn the Octave control clockwise to blend more upper octave into the distortion. At higher settings, the Life Pedal moves from heavy distortion towards a much more aggressive octave-fuzz sound.

For the strongest octave effect, use the neck pickup and play single-note lines above the 12th fret.

Because it is an analogue octave circuit, chords produce more chaotic and complex textures, which can be particularly effective for experimental, noise and heavy music.

An expression pedal can also be connected to control the octave blend in real time.

Independent MOSFET Clean Boost

The Magnitude section is an all-discrete MOSFET clean boost designed to add level without dramatically colouring your tone.

Use it independently to push the front end of a valve amplifier, or combine it with the distortion section for even more saturation, harmonics and feedback.

This makes the Life Pedal V3 particularly effective with valve amplifiers that respond dynamically when driven harder.
