What Makes the Nord Electro 7 73 Special?
The Nord Electro 7 73 takes the performance-focused Electro concept and gives players greater sound-design potential without sacrificing the immediacy that has made the series so popular with gigging musicians.
The combination of a 73-note waterfall keyboard, physical drawbars, Nord Piano Library compatibility, Organ 3-derived rotary speaker technology and a powerful new Synth section makes it particularly attractive to players who need one lightweight keyboard to cover a huge range of live sounds.
Why Choose the Nord Electro 7 73?
73-Note Semi-Weighted Waterfall Keyboard
The 73-key Semi-Weighted Waterfall action offers a fast and responsive playing feel particularly suited to Hammond-style organ techniques, electric piano, Clavinet and synth sounds.
Its E-to-E six-octave range gives you substantially more room for two-handed playing, splits and layers than a 61-note instrument while keeping the keyboard highly portable.
Three Dedicated Sound Sections
Separate Organ, Piano and Synth sections provide immediate hands-on control without forcing you through complex menus.
The Electro 7 also supports seamless transitions, selectable split points and split-point crossfades, helping you move naturally between different sounds and performance setups.
Nord Piano Library
The Piano section supports the Nord Piano Library, providing access to Nord’s extensive collection of meticulously sampled grand pianos, uprights, electric pianos, Clavinets and specialist keyboard instruments.
String Resonance, three keyboard-touch settings, Dynamic Compression, Timbre controls and Unison allow you to tailor individual piano sounds to suit different playing styles and mixes.
Organ Technology Derived from the Nord Organ 3
The Electro 7 features B3, B3+Bass, Soft B3, Vox, Farfisa and Pipe organ models, giving players a broad palette of classic organ tones.
Physical drawbars with LED indicators make organ shaping immediate and intuitive, while adjustable percussion, vintage Tonewheel modes and an advanced rotary speaker emulation provide plenty of scope for authentic organ performance.
Physical Drawbars
Unlike relying entirely on digital drawbar representations, the Electro 7 73 provides nine physical drawbars with LED indicators, making it easy to make expressive changes while playing.
The 61 and 73 models also include provision for mounting a compatible Half-Moon rotary speaker switch, making the Electro particularly appealing to dedicated organ players.
Expanded Synth Section
The new Synth section brings substantially greater flexibility to the Electro platform with sample, analogue and FM synthesis.
You can shape sounds using filter cutoff, resonance, envelopes, velocity response, Unison, Mono, Legato, Glide and adjustable Vibrato, making the Electro 7 capable of handling everything from strings and pads to synth leads, basses and atmospheric textures.
Pitch Stick & Modulation Wheel
The Electro 7 73 features Nord’s distinctive Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel, providing much more expressive control over Synth sounds during live performance.
For players who regularly use leads, pads or expressive synth textures, these controls make the 73 particularly versatile.
Dedicated Effects for Organ, Piano & Synth
Each major sound section benefits from dedicated effects, giving you much greater freedom when building splits and layered sounds.
Available processing includes Tremolo, Wah, Ring Modulation, Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Vibe, Ensemble, amplifier simulations, Drive, three-band EQ, Delay, Compression and multiple Reverb types.
High-Resolution Colour Display
A high-resolution colour screen provides clear visual feedback when selecting programmes and adjusting settings.
Combined with Nord’s direct-control philosophy, it provides useful information without turning the instrument into a menu-driven workstation.
Lightweight & Stage Ready
At just 9.5kg, the Electro 7 73 delivers six octaves of playable range while remaining remarkably manageable for regular gigging.
For musicians carrying their own equipment between rehearsals, sessions and venues, its combination of capability and portability is a major advantage.
Who Is It For?
The Nord Electro 7 73 is ideal for gigging keyboard players who regularly move between acoustic and electric piano, organ, Clavinet and synth sounds.
Its waterfall keyboard makes it particularly attractive to organists and electric piano players, while its expanded synth capabilities make the Electro 7 significantly more versatile for modern pop, rock, funk, soul, jazz, worship, theatre and session work.
Professional musicians looking for a lightweight second keyboard above a weighted stage piano should also find the Electro 7 73 particularly appealing.
Story & Context
The original Nord Electro arrived in 2001, providing performing musicians with a portable alternative to transporting multiple vintage electro-mechanical instruments.
Successive generations expanded the piano library, organ modelling, effects and live-performance capabilities while retaining the direct control that became a defining feature of the Electro series.
The Electro 7 generation, introduced in 2026, represents a significant evolution of the platform with an expanded Synth section, dedicated effects for each main sound section, physical drawbars across the range, a colour display and organ technology derived from the Nord Organ 3.
Nord Electro 7 73 vs Nord Electro 7 HP
The biggest difference is the keyboard action. The Electro 7 73 uses a Semi-Weighted Waterfall action, making it particularly responsive for organ, electric piano, Clavinet and synth playing. The Electro 7 HP uses a heavier Kawai Triple Sensor Hammer Action Portable keybed aimed more directly at pianists.
The Electro 7 73 also weighs just 9.5kg compared with 13kg for the HP, making it the more portable choice for frequent gigging.
Nord Electro 7 73 vs Nord Electro 7 61
Both models use a Semi-Weighted Waterfall action, but the Electro 7 73 provides 73 keys across six octaves, compared with 61 keys on the smaller model. The extra range is particularly useful for split sounds, two-handed piano playing and performers who want more keyboard space without stepping up to a weighted HP model.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Nord Electro 7 73 hits an excellent balance between versatility, playing range and portability. The 73-note Semi-Weighted Waterfall action is fast enough for convincing Hammond techniques and synth playing while still working extremely well for electric piano and general keyboard duties.
The introduction of a much more capable Synth section, physical drawbars, Organ 3-derived rotary speaker technology, individual effects and Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel controls makes this the most versatile generation of the Electro concept yet. At only 9.5kg, it is an outstanding professional performance keyboard for musicians who need serious sounds without a heavyweight stage rig.
