What Makes the Nord Electro 7 HP Special?
The Electro series has long been a favourite among working keyboard players because it combines high-quality piano, electric piano and organ sounds with a direct, performance-focused interface. The Electro 7 takes that concept further with a more advanced Synth section, dedicated effects for each sound engine and an improved colour display.
For piano-focused musicians, the Electro 7 HP is the standout model in the range. Its 73-note Kawai hammer-action keybed offers a more substantial piano-style response while retaining the compact format and portability that make the Electro series so attractive for live work.
Why Choose the Nord Electro 7 HP?
73-Key Kawai Triple Sensor Hammer Action
Developed with Kawai, the Electro 7 HP's Triple Sensor Hammer Action Portable keybed provides a responsive weighted feel designed for expressive acoustic piano and electric piano performance.
Its 73-key E-to-E range also helps reduce overall size compared with a conventional 88-note stage piano, making it easier to transport between rehearsals, sessions and gigs.
Three Dedicated Sound Sections
The Electro 7 features dedicated Organ, Piano and Synth sections, giving players immediate access to the sounds most commonly required on stage.
Flexible splits, layers, crossfades and seamless sound transitions make it easy to create performance-ready setups and switch between sounds without interrupting sustained notes.
Nord Piano Library
The Piano section supports the Nord Piano Library, giving players access to Nord’s extensive collection of acoustic grands, uprights, electric pianos, Clavinets and other keyboard instruments.
String Resonance, Dynamic Compression, adjustable keyboard touch, Timbre controls and Unison provide plenty of scope for tailoring piano sounds to suit solo playing, recording or a full band mix.
Organ Engine Derived from the Nord Organ 3
The Organ section draws on technology from the Nord Organ 3, with B3, B3+Bass, Soft B3, Vox, Farfisa and Pipe organ models.
Physical drawbars with LED indicators provide immediate hands-on control, while Nord’s advanced rotary speaker simulation offers convincing movement, drive and character for expressive organ performance.
Expanded Synth Section
The Electro 7 introduces a significantly more capable Synth section with sample-based sounds, analogue-style waveforms and FM synthesis.
Filtering, envelopes, resonance, Unison, Mono, Legato and Glide controls make it suitable for everything from strings, pads and brass to leads, basses and contemporary electronic textures.
Dedicated Effects for Each Section
Organ, Piano and Synth sections benefit from dedicated effects, making it easy to build polished sounds directly from the front panel.
The expanded effects system includes modulation, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, ring modulation, amplifier simulations, three-band EQ, compression, delay and multiple reverb types.
Built for Live Performance
A high-resolution colour display makes programme navigation clear and intuitive, while 500 programme locations and five Live programmes provide plenty of storage for set lists and performance setups.
Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel controls give synth sounds greater expressive potential, while MIDI, USB and external keyboard connectivity allow the Electro 7 HP to integrate easily into larger stage or studio rigs.
Who Is It For?
The Nord Electro 7 HP is ideal for gigging pianists and keyboard players who want authentic piano response but still need convincing organs, electric pianos and synth textures from a single instrument.
It is also an excellent choice for session players, theatre musicians, worship players, touring musicians and studio keyboardists who value fast operation, premium sounds and a professional weighted keybed.
Story & Context
Nord launched the original Electro in 2001, creating a portable performance keyboard focused on recreating the classic electromechanical instruments that working musicians once had to transport individually.
Over successive generations, the Electro became known for combining high-quality piano and organ sounds with an immediate, stage-friendly layout.
The Electro 7 generation represents a major development of that formula. The HP version introduces a 73-note Kawai Triple Sensor Hammer Action Portable keyboard alongside a substantially expanded Synth section, upgraded effects and organ technology derived from the Nord Organ 3.
Nord Electro 7 HP vs Nord Electro 7 73
The standard Electro 7 73 uses a semi-weighted waterfall keyboard that is particularly well suited to organ techniques and fast synth playing. The Electro 7 HP instead uses a weighted Kawai hammer-action mechanism, making it the stronger choice for players whose performances are centred around acoustic and electric piano.
Nord Electro 7 HP vs Nord Stage
The Electro 7 HP focuses on portability, immediacy and Nord’s core piano, organ and synth sounds. The Nord Stage range provides a deeper performance architecture and greater sound-engine flexibility for players who require more advanced layering and routing.
For musicians who do not need the additional complexity of a Nord Stage, the Electro 7 HP offers a focused and highly capable professional alternative.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Nord Electro 7 HP is arguably the Electro model to choose if piano is at the centre of your playing. Its Kawai 73-note hammer action provides the weighted response serious pianists want while maintaining a more manageable footprint than many full-size 88-note stage instruments.
Add Nord’s excellent Piano Library, Organ 3-derived organ engine, physical drawbars, expanded Synth section and comprehensive effects, and this becomes an exceptionally capable keyboard for professional live and studio use. For players who want premium acoustic piano, electric piano, organ and essential synth sounds without the complexity of a flagship workstation, the Electro 7 HP is a superb choice.
