Why Choose The Taylor T5-C2 12-String Koa?
Versatile 12-String Hybrid Design
The T5-C2 12-String gives players the natural harmonic spread of a 12-string while retaining the slimmer body, easy amplification and broader tonal flexibility of Taylor's T5 platform.
Hawaiian Koa Top
The figured koa top gives the C2 version its premium visual identity, with natural grain variation and warm colouring that make each example visually individual.
Three-Pickup T5 Electronics
Taylor's magnetic body sensor, concealed neck humbucker and visible bridge humbucker provide several distinctly different voices, allowing the guitar to move from acoustic-flavoured textures into fuller electric sounds.
Five-Way Switching
The five-position selector makes the T5 particularly practical on stage, allowing quick changes between different pickup combinations without requiring complicated external routing.
Electric-Friendly Playing Feel
A 24⅞" scale, relatively flat fingerboard and slim hollowbody give the T5-C2 a more electric-style playing experience than a conventional full-depth 12-string acoustic.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Taylor T5-C2 12-String vs Taylor 12-String Acoustic
A conventional Taylor 12-string acoustic is the stronger choice when unplugged acoustic projection is the priority, while the T5-C2 is better suited to players who need controlled amplification, electric-style playability and a wider range of processed or driven sounds.
Taylor T5-C2 12-String vs Taylor T5z-12
The later T5z-12 uses a smaller body, flatter electric-style ergonomics and jumbo frets, whereas the original T5 has the larger body and 15" fingerboard radius that give it a slightly more acoustic-orientated feel.
Taylor T5-C2 12-String vs Rickenbacker 12-String
A Rickenbacker is the classic choice for bright, unmistakable electric 12-string jangle, while the Taylor provides a broader acoustic-to-electric tonal range and a fuller hollowbody platform.
Taylor T5-C2 12-String vs Standard 6-String T5
The six-string T5 is the more conventional all-round choice for lead and rhythm playing, while the 12-string version is specifically aimed at players wanting additional octave shimmer, width and harmonic texture.
Who Is It For?
Live Performers
The T5-C2 12-String is ideal for musicians who need convincing 12-string textures without carrying a full-size acoustic onto a busy stage.
Studio Guitarists
Its broad pickup system makes it particularly useful for adding layered 12-string parts that can sit somewhere between acoustic and electric guitar in a recording.
Pop And Rock Players
The natural width of the paired strings works extremely well for open chords, arpeggios and rhythm parts that need to fill more space in an arrangement.
Worship And Function Musicians
Players covering varied material can benefit from having several different amplified voices available from one 12-string instrument.
Guitarists Wanting Something Unusual
Premium 12-string hybrid guitars are considerably less common than conventional electric or acoustic 12-strings, giving the T5-C2 a particularly distinctive role within a collection or working rig.

Why Choose A Hybrid 12-String Guitar?
A conventional 12-string acoustic provides a huge natural sound, while a traditional electric 12-string focuses more on bright attack and amplified jangle. A hybrid design such as the T5-C2 sits between those two approaches, giving the player the characteristic octave-rich 12-string texture with far more flexibility in how that sound is amplified and processed.
That makes it particularly useful for modern live and recording setups. You can use cleaner acoustic-style sounds for open chords and accompaniment, then move into more obviously electric tones or add pedals and effects without changing instruments.

Story & Context: Taylor T5-C2 12-String
Taylor introduced the original T5 in 2005 after developing a guitar specifically intended to occupy the space between acoustic and electric instruments. Rather than fitting a conventional acoustic guitar with increasingly elaborate electronics, Taylor started with a purpose-built hollowbody platform designed around amplified performance.
The original T5 combined a magnetic acoustic body sensor with concealed and visible humbuckers, five-way switching and active tone controls. The concept proved important enough to help establish what is now a recognised category of electric/acoustic hybrid guitars.
The C2 designation represented one of the more luxurious versions of the original T5, using a figured Hawaiian koa top, premium decorative appointments and gold-coloured hardware to give the performance-focused design a distinctly high-end presentation.
Serial number 20070911519 provides an unusually precise piece of history for this individual instrument. Taylor's 11-digit system shows that work began on it on 11 September 2007, while the ninth digit identifies it specifically as part of the T5 family. That places this 12-string example within the early years of a design Taylor continues to develop through today's T5z range.

Power Requirements
The T5's active onboard electronics require a 9V battery.
Unplugging the instrument when it is not being used helps preserve battery life. The guitar connects to an amplifier, acoustic amp, PA system, pedalboard or suitable audio interface through a standard 1/4" instrument connection.
Why Buy Pre-Owned From Fair Deal Music?
Buying Pre-Owned is an excellent way to access discontinued Taylor models and earlier generations of instruments that have since evolved into different forms.
The original T5-C2 12-String is particularly interesting because it combines the first-generation T5 body and playing feel with a premium koa specification and the comparatively unusual 12-string format.
At Fair Deal Music, our Pre-Owned guitars are individually checked and assessed before sale, helping customers buy distinctive and specialist instruments with greater confidence.
Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The 2007 Taylor T5-C2 12-String Koa is a superb specialist instrument for players who want the richness of a 12-string without being restricted to a conventional acoustic or electric format. Its premium koa presentation, easy-playing thinline body and highly flexible T5 electronics make it especially useful for live musicians and recording players who need distinctive textures.
Best suited for: Session players, live performers and guitarists who regularly use 12-string sounds but need greater tonal flexibility.
Customers usually upgrade from: Conventional electro-acoustic 12-strings and more basic electric 12-string guitars.
Most commonly paired with: Acoustic or full-range amplification, clean electric amplifiers, modelling systems, compressors, chorus, delay and reverb.
Our tip: The T5 works particularly well when you explore different amplification and effects options rather than treating it solely as an electro-acoustic guitar.
Showroom feedback: The combination of genuine 12-string shimmer and T5 versatility makes this a much more adaptable instrument than a traditional one-purpose 12-string.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the T5-C2 12-String be used through an electric guitar amplifier?
Yes. The T5 was specifically designed to work comfortably in electric-style amplified setups as well as acoustic or full-range systems, giving you considerable freedom in how you build your sound.
Is a 12-string harder to play than a six-string?
There is additional string tension and twice as many strings to fret, but the T5's slim body, manageable scale length and electric-friendly neck make it considerably more approachable than many large-bodied acoustic 12-strings.
Can I use effects pedals with the T5-C2?
Yes. Chorus, compressor, delay and reverb work particularly well with 12-string textures, while overdrive and modulation can bring out the more electric side of the T5 pickup system.
What is the advantage of the shorter 24⅞" scale?
Compared with a typical 25.5" electric scale, the slightly shorter length helps reduce overall string tension and gives the instrument a comfortable response, which is particularly useful with a 12-string setup.
Is this suitable for direct recording?
Yes. The T5 can be connected to suitable recording equipment or an audio interface, and its multiple pickup combinations make it useful for creating contrasting layered parts without changing guitars.
Can I request a closer look before purchasing?
Yes. For a distinctive Pre-Owned instrument such as this, our Request a Video Demo option is particularly useful if you would like to see and hear the guitar in more detail before making your decision.
