The Gretsch G6122 Country Gentleman (as used and associated with George Harrison and Chet Atkins) is a fully hollow electric guitar built with a laminated maple body, typically 17-inch lower bout dimensions and a double-cutaway Electrotone design. It uses a set maple neck with an ebony fingerboard featuring neo-classic thumbnail inlays, 22 frets, and a 24.6-inch scale length. The body is constructed without traditional soundholes, using a sealed top design to reduce feedback while retaining hollowbody resonance.

The hardware includes a pinned rocking bar bridge mounted on an ebony base, a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, and gold-plated hardware in most 1960s-era and reissue configurations. The construction uses internal bracing designed to control resonance and feedback at higher volumes, while maintaining the airy response characteristic of a hollow maple body. The neck joint and body binding are built with multi-ply binding and high-gloss nitro-style finishes depending on production era.

The electronics consist of dual Gretsch Filter’Tron humbucking pickups wired through individual volume controls for each pickup, a master volume control, a three-position pickup selector, and a tone switching system depending on production year. The Filter’Tron design delivers a bright, articulate humbucking response with reduced noise compared to earlier single-coil Gretsch pickups, and the overall circuit is built for clean articulation and controlled breakup under amplification.
