Why Choose the Marshall CODE 50?

Extensive Marshall Amp Modelling

The CODE 50 uses Marshall-Softube modelling technology to recreate the response and character of a broad selection of Marshall amplifier designs.

Players can combine different preamp, power-amplifier and speaker-cabinet models to build sounds inspired by historic Marshall amplifiers as well as more contemporary high-gain rigs.

This modular approach provides greater flexibility than an amplifier with a small selection of fixed channels. A clean preamp can be paired with a particular power stage and cabinet model, or a high-gain preamp can be combined with different virtual cabinets to change its overall character.

100 Editable Presets

The amplifier contains 100 presets covering clean, crunch, classic-rock, hard-rock, metal and effects-based sounds.

Each preset can be adjusted and stored, allowing players to create a personalised library of tones for different guitars, songs and playing styles.

Saved presets can be recalled directly from the amplifier or selected using the Marshall Gateway app. This makes it easy to move between carefully prepared rhythm, clean and lead sounds without manually repositioning every control.

24 Built-In Digital Effects

The CODE 50 contains 24 digital effects covering the major effect categories required for a complete guitar rig.

The available sections include:

  • Pre-effects

  • Modulation

  • Delay

  • Reverb

  • Amplifier modelling

  • Power-amplifier modelling

  • Speaker-cabinet modelling

Up to five effects can be used simultaneously, allowing detailed preset chains to be created without connecting a separate collection of pedals.

Marshall-Softube MST Technology

Marshall worked with audio-software specialist Softube to develop the CODE series’ MST modelling technology.

The system models the interaction between the selected preamp, power amplifier and speaker cabinet rather than simply applying a fixed distortion effect to the guitar signal.

This allows players to explore the tonal differences between various amplifier stages and cabinet combinations while retaining a recognisably Marshall-focused sound.

Bluetooth Connectivity

A compatible smartphone or tablet can be connected to the CODE 50 through Bluetooth.

Bluetooth audio streaming allows songs, lesson material and backing tracks to be played through the amplifier’s speaker. The connection can also be used with the Marshall Gateway app for wireless preset editing and control.

This reduces the need for additional cables during everyday practice and makes it easy to play along with music from a mobile device.

Marshall Gateway App Control

The Marshall Gateway app provides a visual interface for controlling and editing the CODE 50.

From the app, players can:

  • Browse the amplifier’s 100 presets

  • Adjust Gain, Volume and EQ settings

  • Select preamp models

  • Select power-amplifier models

  • Select speaker-cabinet models

  • Add and edit effects

  • Store personalised presets

  • Manage a library of sounds

  • Stream music through the amplifier

The app is available for compatible iOS and Android devices.

Share and Download Presets

CODE Presets provides access to sounds created by Marshall and other CODE users.

Players can explore presets inspired by different artists, genres and amplifier styles, then use them as starting points for their own sounds.

Personal presets can also be saved and shared, making the CODE platform useful for players who enjoy experimenting with tones or exchanging settings with other musicians.

Full Physical Control Panel

The CODE 50 does not require the Gateway app for normal operation.

Presets, models, effects, Gain, Volume and three-band EQ settings can all be accessed from the amplifier’s own control panel. This allows the amplifier to be used conventionally when a mobile device is not available.

The app simply provides an alternative visual method of accessing the same core sound-shaping functions.

Powerful 50W Output

The CODE 50 produces 50 watts through its custom 12-inch Marshall speaker.

This provides more body, clean headroom and projection than the smaller CODE 25, making the CODE 50 better suited to rehearsals and performance environments.

The Master Volume allows the overall output to be reduced for home use without changing the stored levels and gain characteristics of individual presets.

Custom 12-Inch Marshall Speaker

The built-in 12-inch speaker is rated at 50 watts and presents a 4Ω load.

Its full-sized design provides greater low-frequency depth and projection than the smaller speakers fitted to many compact practice amplifiers. This helps clean tones sound fuller and gives distorted presets a stronger physical response.

Auxiliary Input

A 3.5mm auxiliary input allows a compatible phone, tablet, computer or music player to be connected with a cable.

This provides an alternative to Bluetooth audio streaming and can be useful with devices that do not support wireless audio.

Silent Headphone Practice

Connecting compatible headphones to the 3.5mm headphone output mutes the internal speaker.

This allows presets and effects to be used during private practice without disturbing other people, making the amplifier suitable for evening use and shared living spaces.

Why Choose a Digital Modelling Guitar Amplifier?

A digital modelling amplifier provides access to a wide range of guitar sounds without requiring multiple amplifiers, speaker cabinets and effects pedals.

Traditional amplifiers are often designed around one main circuit and tonal character. The CODE 50 can recreate different preamp, power-amplifier and cabinet combinations, allowing one amplifier to cover clean sounds, vintage crunch and modern high-gain distortion.

Preset storage is another major advantage. Once a sound has been created, it can be saved and recalled rather than rebuilt manually. This is particularly useful when practising songs that require several contrasting guitar tones.

Digital modelling amplifiers also perform consistently at different listening levels. The CODE 50 can therefore be used quietly at home while retaining the same basic preset character required for a louder rehearsal.

Who Is It For?

Beginner Guitarists

The factory presets provide immediate access to usable sounds without requiring detailed knowledge of amplifier circuits or effects.

As players develop, they can begin editing the presets and learn how Gain, EQ, amplifier type, cabinet choice and effects influence their sound.

Intermediate Players

The ability to create, store and organise personalised presets makes the CODE 50 a practical upgrade from a basic practice amplifier.

Its 50-watt output and 12-inch speaker also provide greater scope for rehearsals and performances.

Guitarists Exploring Different Styles

The wide range of models and effects allows players to move between blues, pop, indie, classic rock, hard rock and metal without changing amplifiers.

Home Musicians

The Master Volume, Bluetooth audio, auxiliary input and headphone output make the CODE 50 highly practical for everyday home practice.

Recording Guitarists

Preset recall makes it easy to return to a previous sound during a recording project. The range of virtual amplifiers and cabinets also provides contrasting tones without requiring several physical amplifier rigs.

Rehearsing Musicians

The 50-watt output and 12-inch speaker offer useful projection for band rehearsals, depending on the volume of the other instruments.

Gigging Players

The CODE 50 can be used for smaller performances and microphone-assisted gigs. An optional compatible footcontroller can provide remote preset selection during a performance.

Players Who Prefer App-Based Editing

The Gateway app provides a convenient visual approach to detailed tone editing and preset organisation.

Power Requirements

The Marshall CODE 50 operates from UK mains electricity using the supplied detachable power cable.

Before switching the amplifier on, connect your guitar and reduce the Master Volume. Once powered, select a preset and gradually increase the Master control to a comfortable listening level.

The CODE 50 uses digital solid-state technology and requires no valve warm-up period or routine valve replacement.

Creating a Sound on the CODE 50

Choose a Preset

Select one of the 100 factory presets as a starting point. This provides a complete signal chain that can be used immediately or adjusted.

Select a Preamp Model

The preamp model determines much of the basic gain structure and tonal character. Cleaner models provide greater clarity and headroom, while higher-gain models add distortion, compression and sustain.

Choose a Power-Amplifier Model

The virtual power-amplifier section changes the response, presence and overall feel of the selected preamp.

Select a Speaker Cabinet

Different virtual cabinets alter low-frequency depth, midrange focus and high-frequency response.

Add Effects

Pre-effects can be placed before the amplifier model, while modulation, delay and reverb can be added to complete the preset.

Adjust the EQ

Use Bass, Middle and Treble to adapt the sound to your guitar, pickups, room and playing style.

Save the Preset

Store the edited sound in the amplifier’s memory so that it can be recalled later.
