What Makes the PRS S2 Standard 24 Satin Special?

The S2 Standard 24 Satin focuses on the essentials of a high-performance PRS. Its solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck create a warm, full and midrange-forward foundation, while the thin satin nitro finish gives the guitar a stripped-back feel and allows the natural resonance of the wood to remain a central part of the playing experience.

Its USA-made PRS 58/15 LT pickups provide a warm, clear and vintage-inspired response, with the five-way blade selector offering a broader tonal range than a conventional two-humbucker layout. Combined with a Pattern Thin neck, 24 frets, PRS Patented Tremolo and Phase III locking tuners, the result is a guitar designed equally for nuanced clean work, expressive lead playing and demanding live use.

Who Is It For?

The PRS S2 Standard 24 Satin is ideal for players who want a USA-made PRS with a straightforward, workhorse aesthetic rather than a highly figured maple top.

It is particularly well suited to:

  • Rock and alternative guitarists

  • Blues players

  • Pop and contemporary musicians

  • Gigging professionals

  • Studio and session players

  • Players who need both humbucker and split-coil sounds

  • Guitarists who prefer a Pattern Thin neck

  • Players who need 24-fret access

  • Musicians who regularly use tremolo effects

  • PRS players looking for a resonant all-mahogany instrument

Why Choose an All-Mahogany Electric Guitar?

Mahogany is widely used for electric guitar bodies and necks because of its strong midrange, warmth and natural sustain. Using mahogany for both the body and neck gives the S2 Standard 24 a particularly cohesive tonal character.

The thin satin nitro finish keeps the presentation deliberately simple while complementing the natural resonance of the construction. For players who value feel, response and tone over decorative appointments, the Standard Satin approach makes considerable sense.

PRS S2 Standard 24 Satin vs Custom 24

The S2 Standard 24 Satin uses an all-mahogany body and neck with a thin satin nitro finish, giving it a warmer, more stripped-back character. A Custom 24 traditionally uses a maple top over mahogany, creating a different tonal balance and a more ornate visual presentation.

Both designs offer 24-fret versatility, but the S2 Standard 24 Satin is especially appealing to players who want the core PRS experience in a simpler, highly functional USA-made instrument.

USA-Made PRS 58/15 LT Pickups

The PRS 58/15 LT pickups are Maryland, USA-made humbuckers designed around a lower-output, vintage-inspired voice.

“LT” stands for Low Turn, referring to their lower-wind design. This helps provide a clear, open response with strong note separation rather than excessive compression or output.

They work particularly well with clean and edge-of-breakup tones but retain enough body and definition for driven rock sounds.

Five-Way Pickup Switching

Rather than using a conventional three-way selector, the S2 Standard 24 Satin employs a five-way blade switch.

This provides full bridge and neck humbucker sounds alongside combined and split-coil options. The result is a broad range of usable tones without adding extra mini-toggle switches or push/pull controls.

For gigging players, the layout makes changing between contrasting sounds particularly quick and intuitive.

Pattern Thin Neck

The PRS Pattern Thin neck profile is designed for players who prefer a streamlined feel while retaining enough substance for comfortable chord work.

Combined with the 25-inch scale length and 10-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, it works equally well for rhythm playing, bending and more technical lead techniques.

The 24-fret fingerboard also provides a full two-octave range on every string.

PRS Phase III Locking Tuners

The S2 Standard 24 Satin features PRS Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons.

These lightweight locking machines provide secure string installation and make restringing quicker, while their unplated brass shafts are designed to promote efficient energy transfer through the headstock.

PRS Patented Tremolo

The PRS Patented Tremolo provides expressive pitch control for subtle vibrato, chord shimmer and more noticeable pitch effects.

Paired with the Phase III locking tuners, it completes a hardware package designed around reliable everyday performance.

Red Apple Metallic Satin Finish

The Red Apple Metallic finish gives the S2 Standard 24 Satin a bold contemporary appearance while retaining the understated character of the Standard platform.

Its thin satin nitro finish avoids the highly polished look of a conventional gloss guitar and gives the instrument a tactile, workhorse feel that complements its all-mahogany construction.
