What Makes the Schecter C-1 FR S Blackjack Special?

The Blackjack takes Schecter’s familiar C-1 platform and equips it with a specification aimed squarely at demanding players. Its mahogany body and three-piece mahogany neck use a set-neck design with Ultra Access for comfortable upper-fret reach, while carbon-fibre reinforcement adds stability. The Thin “C” profile, compound-radius ebony fingerboard and 24 X-Jumbo stainless-steel frets provide a smooth, modern feel for rapid alternate picking, legato, large bends and complex chord work.

Its pickup combination is particularly distinctive. The Swedish-made Lundgren M6 bridge humbucker is renowned for retaining articulation and definition under substantial amounts of gain, while the Sustainiac system allows notes to be extended and manipulated using Fundamental, Mix and Harmonic modes. Combined with the Floyd Rose 1500 Series tremolo, the C-1 FR S Blackjack offers an unusually broad range of expressive possibilities without losing the tight, focused response required for heavy rhythm work.

Who Is It For?

The Schecter C-1 FR S Blackjack is best suited to intermediate, advanced and professional guitarists who want a serious high-performance instrument for modern rock and metal. Its combination of a fast neck, stainless-steel frets, powerful bridge humbucker and double-locking tremolo makes it particularly capable for technically demanding playing.

It is an excellent choice for metal, progressive metal, hard rock, technical rock and contemporary instrumental guitar, especially for players who make active use of tremolo effects, sustained lead lines and controlled feedback.

Why Choose A Guitar With A Sustainiac And Floyd Rose?

A Sustainiac provides creative possibilities that a conventional neck pickup cannot reproduce. When activated, it uses electromagnetic energy to keep the strings vibrating, allowing notes to continue sustaining while the player controls how that sustain develops. This makes it ideal for soaring lead passages, feedback effects, ambient textures and dramatic harmonics.

Pairing this with a Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo adds extensive pitch control. Players can perform deep dives, pull-ups and expressive vibrato while the locking system is designed to help maintain tuning stability during aggressive tremolo use.

How Does It Compare?

Compared With A Conventional C-1

A conventional fixed-bridge C-1 is generally simpler to restring and adjust, but the C-1 FR S Blackjack offers significantly greater creative scope through its Sustainiac system and Floyd Rose tremolo. Players who regularly use pitch effects, feedback and sustained lead textures are likely to benefit from the additional functionality.

Compared With An Active-Pickup Metal Guitar

The Lundgren M6 is a passive pickup, giving the Blackjack a different response to guitars based around active electronics. It provides substantial output and high-gain capability while retaining dynamic response and fine detail, making it particularly appealing to players who want aggressive tones without losing articulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Schecter C-1 FR S Blackjack suitable for metal?

Yes. The Lundgren M6 bridge pickup, fast neck, stainless-steel frets and Floyd Rose tremolo make it particularly well suited to metal, progressive styles and other high-gain applications.

What is a Lundgren M6 pickup?

The Lundgren M6 is a Swedish-made passive humbucker designed for powerful, articulate guitar tones. It is particularly effective with high gain because it retains clarity through complex chords, low-register riffs and fast picking.

What does the Sustainiac do?

The Sustainiac keeps the strings vibrating electronically, allowing notes to sustain for extended periods. Its different operating modes can emphasise the fundamental note, harmonics or a mixture of the two.

What Sustainiac modes are available?

The three selectable modes are Fundamental, Mix and Harmonic, giving the player different ways to shape how a sustained note develops.

Does the Sustainiac require a battery?

Yes. The Sustainiac electronics require a 9V battery, and the guitar includes a dedicated battery compartment.

Does the guitar have stainless-steel frets?

Yes. It features 24 X-Jumbo stainless-steel frets, which provide a smooth feel for bending and vibrato together with excellent resistance to fret wear.

What is the neck profile like?

The guitar uses Schecter’s Thin “C” profile, measuring approximately 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the twelfth. The compound-radius ebony fingerboard further supports fast, modern playing.

What is a compound-radius fingerboard?

The fingerboard gradually changes from a rounder 12" radius near the nut to a flatter 16" radius higher up the neck. This provides comfortable chord playing towards the lower frets while giving lead players a flatter surface for bends and fast upper-register work.

Does it have a Floyd Rose tremolo?

Yes. The C-1 FR S Blackjack uses a Floyd Rose 1500 Series double-locking tremolo for dive bombs, pull-ups, vibrato and other expressive pitch effects.

Are the tuners locking?

The guitar uses Grover Rotomatic 18:1 tuners. String locking is handled by the Floyd Rose locking nut as part of the double-locking tremolo system.

Is the Lundgren M6 active?

No. The Lundgren M6 is a passive humbucker. Only the Sustainiac system requires battery power.

Is a hardcase included?

No. The compatible Schecter SGR-1C C-Shape Hardcase, model 1620, is available separately.
