WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
The original Katana-100 remains a highly practical amplifier because it can cover an unusually wide range of situations without requiring a complicated setup.
At full power it has enough output for rehearsal and live use, while the Power Control allows the amp to run at much lower output levels for home practice.
The built-in Boss effects also reduce the need for a large pedalboard, while the effects loop and GA-FC compatibility make it easy to expand into a more advanced live rig.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
100-Watt Output
The Katana-100 provides enough power and projection for rehearsal, performance and louder band situations while retaining a relatively compact 1x12 format.
Custom 12" Speaker
The amp uses a custom 12" speaker designed to work closely with the Katana output stage and amp voicings.
Five Amp Characters
Five main amp types provide a broad range of sounds.
Clean delivers a clear and open response, Crunch adds classic breakup, Lead covers thicker driven tones, and Brown provides the higher-gain voice derived from Boss’s Waza development.
An Acoustic setting is also included for electro-acoustic guitars.
Built-In Boss Effects
The amplifier includes integrated Booster/Mod, Delay/FX and Reverb sections.
Additional effects and deeper editing can be accessed through Boss Tone Studio.
Tone Setting Memories
Four dedicated memory buttons allow complete amp and effect setups to be stored for quick recall.
Panel mode returns directly to the current physical control positions.
Power Control
The Power Control provides 0.5W, 50W and 100W settings, allowing the amplifier to retain its responsive feel at more manageable volume levels.
Three-Band EQ
Bass, Middle and Treble controls provide familiar amp-style tone shaping, while the Presence control allows additional adjustment of the upper-frequency response.
Effects Loop
The Send and Return connections allow delay, reverb and modulation pedals to be placed after the Katana preamp section.
This is particularly useful when using higher-gain amp sounds.
Line Output
A dedicated Line Out makes the Katana-100 practical for feeding recording equipment, mixers or PA systems.
Phones / Recording Output
The headphone/recording output allows silent practice or direct connection to recording equipment.
USB Connectivity
USB allows the amplifier to connect directly to a computer for recording and use with Boss Tone Studio.
GA-FC Compatibility
The first-generation Katana-100 supports the Boss GA-FC foot controller, allowing hands-free control over channels and effects in a live setup.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Boss Katana-100 Gen 1 is particularly well suited to players who need one amplifier for practice, recording, rehearsal and live work.
It is also a strong choice for guitarists who want access to multiple amp sounds and effects without relying entirely on a separate pedalboard.
PLAYING STYLES & APPLICATIONS
The Katana-100 works well across rock, blues, metal, pop, indie, alternative, funk and general covers work.
Clean and Crunch settings cover lower-gain styles, while Lead and Brown provide enough gain for heavier rhythm and lead sounds.
The onboard effects also make it useful for ambient, modulation-heavy and experimental playing.
HOW IT COMPARES
Katana-100 Gen 1 vs Katana-50 Gen 1
The 100-watt model adds greater power, an effects loop, dedicated Line Out and GA-FC compatibility, making it considerably more suitable for stage use.
Katana Gen 1 vs Katana MkII
The MkII generation added expanded amp variations and redesigned effects control.
The original Gen 1 remains a very capable platform and received substantial firmware updates during its production life.
Katana Gen 1 vs Gen 3
Gen 3 introduced a revised amplifier platform, additional voicing options and updated connectivity.
The original Katana-100 is simpler but still offers the core combination of stage power, effects and direct recording functionality that established the range.

FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Players who want one flexible amplifier for home, rehearsal, recording and live use.
Customers usually upgrade from: Small practice amps, entry-level modelling combos and lower-powered Katana models.
Most commonly paired with: GA-FC foot controller, expression pedals, overdrive pedals, delay and modulation effects.
Our tip: The 100-watt version is worth considering even for home use because the 0.5W Power Control makes it manageable at low volume, while the effects loop and GA-FC support give you much more room to expand later.
Showroom feedback: The original Katana-100 remains a very capable all-rounder. Its combination of stage power, straightforward controls and flexible onboard effects is still extremely useful.
