Description

The Yamaha CLP-825WH Clavinova Digital Piano in White brings the essential piano technologies of Yamaha’s current CLP-800 Series into a compact, elegant cabinet with a clean contemporary finish.

At its heart is Yamaha’s 88-note GrandTouch-S keyboard, featuring synthetic ebony and ivory keytops plus escapement. The CLP-825 uses the non-wooden GrandTouch-S action, providing a fully weighted piano keyboard designed to support developing technique and expressive playing.

Its sound engine centres around two prestigious concert grand piano Voices:

  • Yamaha CFX

  • Bösendorfer Imperial

Yamaha complements these with Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM and Grand Expression Modeling, recreating elements of both the complex sympathetic resonance of an acoustic piano and the subtle tonal changes created through different playing techniques.

The CLP-825 also provides 256-note polyphony, 10 Voices, CFX Binaural Sampling, GrandTouch pedals, two-track MIDI recording, 24-bit USB audio, Bluetooth Audio, two headphone outputs, Smart Pianist compatibility and Stereophonic Optimizer.

Finished in White, the CLP-825WH is particularly attractive for contemporary interiors, lighter rooms and homes where a traditional dark piano cabinet would feel visually heavy.

QUICK PRODUCT SUMMARY

The Yamaha CLP-825WH is a compact 88-note Clavinova digital piano featuring Yamaha’s GrandTouch-S weighted keyboard, synthetic ebony and ivory keytops, escapement, Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand Voices, VRM and 256-note polyphony.

Its 20W × 2 amplification with twin 12cm diffuser speakers provides an integrated home-piano sound system, while CFX Binaural Sampling, Bluetooth Audio, USB audio, MIDI recording and Smart Pianist compatibility provide the practical benefits of a modern digital piano.

The CLP-825WH is particularly well suited to beginners, progressing students, returning pianists and families who want the core musical experience of Yamaha’s current Clavinova range in a compact cabinet with a fresh White finish.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The CLP-825 is deliberately focused on the essentials of playing piano.

Rather than loading the instrument with hundreds of Voices and arranger functions, Yamaha has concentrated on the areas that matter most to pianists:

The keyboard.

The piano sound.

The pedals.

The resonance.

The headphone experience.

The GrandTouch-S action provides the physical connection.

The Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial provide two contrasting concert-grand piano personalities.

Virtual Resonance Modeling adds acoustic-style resonance.

Grand Expression Modeling helps the piano respond more naturally to differences in articulation.

And 256-note polyphony gives the instrument substantial capacity for demanding repertoire and sustain-heavy passages.

For players whose priority is simply to sit down and play piano, the CLP-825WH keeps the experience focused.

GRANDTOUCH-S KEYBOARD

The CLP-825WH features Yamaha’s 88-note GrandTouch-S keyboard.

It incorporates:

  • Fully weighted hammer action

  • Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces

  • Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces

  • Escapement

  • Four Touch Sensitivity settings

Yamaha specifies GrandTouch-S with synthetic ebony and ivory keytops and escapement on the CLP-825.

NON-WOODEN KEY CONSTRUCTION

The CLP-825 uses the non-wooden GrandTouch-S action.

This is an important distinction within the CLP-800 Series.

The CLP-825 and CLP-835 use synthetic-key GrandTouch-S actions.

The CLP-845 above them moves up to wooden white keys.

For many home pianists, the CLP-825 therefore provides an appealing balance between serious weighted action, compact dimensions and price.

SYNTHETIC EBONY & IVORY KEYTOPS

The GrandTouch-S keyboard uses synthetic ebony and ivory materials on the key surfaces.

Their subtly textured feel is designed to provide secure, comfortable finger contact during longer practice sessions.

ESCAPEMENT

GrandTouch-S incorporates escapement.

This recreates an element of the subtle mechanical sensation associated with an acoustic grand piano action when keys are played slowly and with control.

TOUCH SENSITIVITY

The CLP-825 provides four keyboard-response settings:

  • Hard

  • Medium

  • Soft

  • Fixed

These allow the relationship between physical touch and the resulting dynamics to be adjusted to suit the player.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND

The Yamaha CFX is Yamaha’s flagship concert grand piano.

Its sampled Voice gives the CLP-825WH a clear, powerful and expressive principal piano sound suitable for:

  • Classical repertoire

  • Grade study

  • Piano lessons

  • Contemporary piano

  • Technique development

  • Everyday home playing

BÖSENDORFER IMPERIAL

The Bösendorfer Imperial provides a contrasting concert grand piano character.

Its distinctive tonal personality gives the pianist a genuine alternative to the Yamaha CFX rather than simply another variation of the same piano sound.

Yamaha confirms both CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial piano sounds on the CLP-825.

CFX BINAURAL SAMPLING

The CLP-825 provides Binaural Sampling for the CFX Grand Voice.

This is particularly valuable during headphone practice.

Binaural reproduction is designed to create a more natural spatial impression around the pianist instead of making the piano sound appear to originate directly inside the headphones.

Yamaha specifies Binaural Sampling for CFX Grand only on the CLP-825.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING – VRM

An acoustic piano creates a complex network of sympathetic resonance.

Strings interact with other strings.

The soundboard responds.

Pedal use changes which strings are free to vibrate.

The complete instrument contributes to the resulting sound.

Yamaha’s Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM recreates these interactions digitally.

As notes combine, sustain and decay, the resulting sound develops with greater depth and complexity.

GRAND EXPRESSION MODELING

Piano expression involves much more than simply playing loudly or softly.

How the pianist presses and releases the keys contributes to the resulting tonal character.

Grand Expression Modeling recreates these subtle variations digitally, helping the CLP-825 respond more naturally to differences in touch and articulation.

256-NOTE POLYPHONY

The CLP-825 provides 256-note maximum polyphony.

This gives the instrument substantial headroom for:

  • Complex repertoire

  • Sustain-heavy passages

  • Layered Voices

  • Resonance modelling

  • MIDI playback

Yamaha confirms 256-note maximum polyphony.

10 BUILT-IN VOICES

The CLP-825 provides 10 instrument Voices.

The instrument remains deliberately piano-focused while providing enough additional sounds for layering and tonal variety.

DUAL MODE

Dual mode allows two compatible Voices to be layered across the keyboard.

For example:

Piano + Strings

DUO MODE

Duo divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges.

This is especially useful for:

  • Piano lessons

  • Teacher/student demonstrations

  • Parent and child

  • Side-by-side practice

GRANDTOUCH PEDALS

The CLP-825WH includes Yamaha’s GrandTouch pedal system.

The three pedals provide:

  • Damper

  • Sostenuto

  • Soft

The damper supports half-pedalling, allowing the amount of sustain to vary according to pedal depth.

Yamaha confirms the three-pedal GrandTouch system and half-pedal capability.

20W × 2 AMPLIFICATION

The CLP-825 uses:

20W × 2 amplification

driving:

12cm speakers with diffusers × 2

This gives the piano an integrated sound system designed for everyday home use while allowing the cabinet to remain relatively compact.

SPEAKER DIFFUSERS

The twin 12cm speakers incorporate diffusers.

These help distribute sound into the room, contributing to a broader and more balanced listening experience.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Intelligent Acoustic Control – IAC adjusts tonal balance when the piano is played at lower volume levels.

This helps preserve useful bass and treble detail during quieter home practice.

PRIVATE HEADPHONE PRACTICE

The CLP-825WH provides two headphone outputs.

This allows completely private practice and also enables two people to listen simultaneously.

Yamaha enhances headphone playing with:

  • CFX Binaural Sampling

  • Stereophonic Optimizer

This makes the CLP-825 particularly practical for:

  • Evening practice

  • Flats and apartments

  • Shared homes

  • Family environments

  • Piano lessons

STEREOPHONIC OPTIMIZER

For appropriate non-binaural Voices, Yamaha’s Stereophonic Optimizer helps create a more spacious listening impression through headphones.

The aim is to reduce the sensation that the sound is originating directly inside the ears and instead create a broader spatial image.

353 BUILT-IN SONGS

The CLP-825 includes:

  • 10 Voice Demo Songs

  • 50 Classics

  • 303 Lesson Songs

This provides a substantial library of built-in music for exploration and structured piano study.

TWO-TRACK MIDI RECORDING

The CLP-825 provides onboard MIDI recording with:

  • 1 User Song

  • 2 tracks

  • Approx. 250KB per Song

  • Approx. 11,000 notes

This can be useful for:

  • Practice review

  • Recording hands separately

  • Playing along with a previously recorded part

  • Evaluating timing and dynamics

Yamaha confirms the 1-Song / 2-track recorder and approximate 11,000-note capacity.

24-BIT USB AUDIO INTERFACE

The CLP-825 provides:

44.1kHz / 24-bit stereo USB audio

This enables digital audio communication with compatible computers and devices for:

  • Recording

  • Online lessons

  • Music applications

  • Educational software

  • Digital practice workflows

Yamaha confirms the 44.1kHz / 24-bit USB Audio Interface.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO

The CLP-825 supports Bluetooth Audio, subject to regional availability.

Compatible audio can be streamed from a smartphone or tablet through the piano’s built-in speaker system.

This can be useful for:

  • Playing along with recordings

  • Backing tracks

  • Reference performances

  • General music playback

Yamaha highlights Bluetooth Audio as part of the CLP-825 feature set.

SMART PIANIST COMPATIBILITY

The CLP-825 works with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist ecosystem.

Using a compatible smartphone or tablet, Smart Pianist provides a graphical interface for supported piano functions and settings.

HOW IT COMPARES

CLP-825WH vs CLP-825B

The musical specification is identical.

The difference is cabinet finish.

CLP-825WH

White

A lighter, contemporary appearance particularly suited to modern interiors.

CLP-825B

Black

A darker, understated and more traditional digital-piano appearance.

Both use the same standard-finish dimensions and weight:

1,350 × 849 × 411mm

45kg

CLP-825WH vs CLP-825R

Again, the underlying piano specification is the same.

CLP-825WH

White

Clean, bright and contemporary.

CLP-825R

Dark Rosewood

Warmer and more traditional.

The choice is entirely aesthetic.

CLP-825WH vs CLP-825PE

The musical specification remains the same, but the cabinet differs.

CLP-825WH

  • White

  • Standard cabinet finish

  • 1,350mm wide

  • 849mm high

  • 411mm deep

  • 45kg

CLP-825PE

  • Polished Ebony

  • Premium high-gloss cabinet

  • 1,353mm wide

  • 851mm high

  • 411mm deep

  • 47kg

The Polished Ebony model is therefore slightly larger and approximately 2kg heavier.

CLP-825 vs CLP-835

Both models provide:

  • GrandTouch-S keyboard

  • Non-wooden key construction

  • Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

  • Escapement

  • Yamaha CFX

  • Bösendorfer Imperial

  • VRM

  • Grand Expression Modeling

  • 256-note polyphony

  • GrandTouch pedals

The CLP-835 then expands the specification substantially.

CLP-825

  • 10 Voices

  • CFX Binaural Sampling

  • Dual and Duo

  • 1-Song / 2-track recording

  • 20W × 2 amplification

  • 12cm diffuser speakers

  • Compact cabinet

CLP-835

  • 38 Voices

  • CFX and Bösendorfer Binaural Sampling

  • Split mode

  • 20 Rhythms

  • Full-dot LCD

  • 16-track MIDI recording

  • USB audio recording

  • 30W × 2 amplification

  • 16cm diffuser speakers

  • Larger cabinet

The CLP-825 is therefore the simpler and more compact instrument, while the CLP-835 offers more features and greater speaker capability.

DIMENSIONS & PLACEMENT

The Yamaha CLP-825WH measures approximately:

Width: 1,350mm
Height: 849mm
Depth: 411mm
Weight: 45kg

With the music rest raised:

Overall height: approximately 1,003mm.

These are Yamaha’s standard-finish CLP-825 dimensions and apply to the White version.

For comparison:

CLP-825WH

1,350 × 849 × 411mm
45kg

CLP-835WH

1,450 × 927 × 460mm
57kg

The CLP-825WH is therefore approximately:

  • 100mm narrower

  • 78mm lower

  • 49mm shallower

  • 12kg lighter

than the CLP-835WH.

That difference can be genuinely useful in smaller living rooms, bedrooms, teaching rooms and apartments.

WHITE FINISH

The WH suffix identifies Yamaha’s White finish.

Yamaha UK currently shows White as an official CLP-825 variation.

The lighter cabinet can work especially well in:

  • Contemporary interiors

  • Minimalist rooms

  • Light-coloured living spaces

  • Bedrooms

  • Modern apartments

  • Scandinavian-inspired décor

The White finish is cosmetic and does not alter the underlying musical specification.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Beginners, grade students, returning pianists and families who want the essential piano technologies of Yamaha’s current Clavinova range in a compact cabinet with a clean contemporary appearance.

Likely upgrade path: Particularly relevant for players moving from portable weighted pianos, Yamaha Arius models, entry-level digital pianos or older Clavinovas.

Useful pairings: Quality Yamaha headphones and Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible smartphone or tablet.

Our tip: If you are choosing between CLP-825B, CLP-825R and CLP-825WH, choose entirely according to which cabinet best suits the room — the piano underneath is the same. If you are considering spending more because you want stronger speakers, more Voices and broader recording functionality, compare the CLP-835 rather than simply changing finish.

FDM view: The CLP-825WH is a very sensible entry into Yamaha’s current Clavinova family. It keeps the experience focused around the technologies pianists actually use: GrandTouch-S, CFX and Bösendorfer concert grands, VRM, Grand Expression Modeling, three pedals and excellent headphone capability. The White cabinet then gives it a particularly clean and contemporary visual character.
