The Yamaha YDP-166R Arius Digital Piano Bundle in Dark Rosewood combines Yamaha’s upgraded current-generation Arius home piano with a complementary Stagg PBF39 RWM VBK adjustable rosewood piano bench and Yamaha HPH-50B headphones for private practice.

At the heart of the package is the Yamaha YDP-166R Arius Digital Piano in Dark Rosewood.

The YDP-166 represents a meaningful step up within Yamaha’s Arius range thanks to its 88-note GrandTouch-E keyboard. Featuring synthetic ebony and ivory keytops plus escapement, GrandTouch-E provides a more sophisticated playing platform than the GHS action used by the YDP-146.

Its principal piano Voice is sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano, while Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of the complex sympathetic resonance generated as strings, keys and pedals interact inside an acoustic piano.

The YDP-166 also provides 192-note polyphony, 10 Voices, 353 preset Songs, three pedals with half-pedal support, two-track MIDI recording, Bluetooth connectivity, USB audio, Smart Pianist compatibility and Stereophonic Optimizer.

A powerful 20W × 2 amplification system drives twin 12cm speakers with diffuser grilles, giving the YDP-166 significantly greater room-filling authority than the YDP-146. Yamaha currently lists the YDP-166 in Dark Rosewood alongside Black, White Birch and White finishes.

This Fair Deal Music bundle then completes the setup with two practical accessories.

The Stagg PBF39 RWM VBK adjustable bench uses a rosewood matt finish with black velvet fireproof top, while the Yamaha HPH-50B closed-back headphones provide a convenient solution for quiet practice. Stagg lists the exact PBF39 RWM VBK as a rosewood-colour piano bench with black velvet fireproof top.

For developing pianists, grade students, serious beginners, families and returning players, this is a highly practical and visually coordinated complete home-piano package.

Stagg identifies this exact model as:

• Rosewood-colour / matt rosewood finish

• Black velvet fireproof top

The matching-style finish makes it a particularly natural partner for the YDP-166R and avoids the visual mismatch of pairing a dark wood-effect piano with an unrelated white or black bench.

WHY THIS BUNDLE MAKES SENSE

The YDP-166R is already a serious home digital piano.

This bundle makes it a complete home practice setup.

The Stagg adjustable bench gives the pianist a proper dedicated seating position rather than forcing them to rely on unsuitable household furniture.

The Yamaha HPH-50B headphones provide private practice whenever the built-in speakers would be inconvenient.

And the Dark Rosewood / rosewood-matt pairing means the piano and bench complement one another visually.

This makes the package particularly practical for:

• Grade students

• Serious beginners

• Developing pianists

• Family homes

• Piano lessons

• Shared accommodation

• Flats and apartments

• Evening practice

• Early-morning practice

• Homes where a warmer traditional wood-effect piano is preferred

YAMAHA YDP-166R – THE STEP-UP ARIUS

The YDP-166 occupies an important position within Yamaha’s Arius family.

It retains the straightforward, piano-focused nature of the YDP-146 while improving the two areas that most directly affect the playing experience:

keyboard feel and speaker power.

The YDP-166 introduces Yamaha’s GrandTouch-E keyboard and increases amplification to 20W × 2.

Those are upgrades you feel and hear every time you sit down to play.

88-NOTE GRANDTOUCH-E KEYBOARD

The defining upgrade on the YDP-166 is Yamaha’s GrandTouch-E keyboard.

Yamaha describes GrandTouch-E as responding consistently across a variety of playing techniques, with a 10mm key stroke designed to support expressive control.

It provides:

• 88 weighted keys

• Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces

• Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces

• Escapement

• Approx. 10mm key stroke

• Four Touch Sensitivity settings

Compared with the GHS action used in the YDP-146, GrandTouch-E provides a more sophisticated platform for developing piano technique.

SYNTHETIC EBONY & IVORY KEYTOPS

The GrandTouch-E keyboard uses synthetic ebony and ivory key surfaces.

Their subtly textured feel is designed to provide secure and comfortable contact beneath the fingers during longer playing sessions.

ESCAPEMENT

GrandTouch-E incorporates escapement.

This recreates an element of the subtle tactile sensation associated with an acoustic grand piano action when a key is played slowly and with control.

TOUCH SENSITIVITY

The YDP-166 provides:

• Hard

• Medium

• Soft

• Fixed

These settings alter the relationship between physical playing and the resulting dynamics.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND PIANO VOICE

The principal piano Voice is sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano.

The CFX provides the tonal foundation for:

• Classical repertoire

• Grade study

• Contemporary piano

• Piano lessons

• Technique practice

• Everyday home performance

Yamaha describes the sampled CFX Voice as providing rich tone across the keyboard and strong expressive range.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING LITE – VRM LITE

An acoustic grand piano produces far more than isolated notes.

Strings resonate together.

Pedal use changes which strings are free to vibrate.

The complete instrument contributes to the resulting sound.

Yamaha’s Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of these complex resonances digitally.

The amount and character of resonance changes according to the notes being played and pedal use, helping the instrument behave more like a connected acoustic system.

192-NOTE POLYPHONY

The YDP-166 provides 192-note maximum polyphony.

This gives the instrument ample headroom for:

• Complex repertoire

• Sustain-heavy passages

• Layered Voices

• Two-track playback

• Detailed pedal use

10 BUILT-IN VOICES

The YDP-166 includes 10 Voices.

Yamaha highlights sounds including:

• Grand piano

• Electric piano

• Pipe organ

• Vibraphone

• Strings

The instrument remains firmly piano-focused while still providing useful variety.

DUAL MODE

Dual mode allows two Voices to be layered across the keyboard.

For example:

Piano + Strings

This can create a broader combined sound for performance and experimentation.

DUO MODE

Duo divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges.

This is particularly useful for:

• Piano lessons

• Teacher and student

• Parent and child

• Demonstrating technique

• Side-by-side practice

THREE-PEDAL SYSTEM

The YDP-166 provides:

• Damper

• Sostenuto

• Soft

The damper pedal supports half-pedalling, allowing more precise control over sustain according to pedal depth. Yamaha highlights the three-pedal arrangement and nuanced half-pedal control on the YDP-166.

20W × 2 AMPLIFICATION

One of the major upgrades over the YDP-146 is speaker power.

The YDP-166 uses:

20W × 2 amplification

driving:

12cm speakers with diffuser grilles × 2

Yamaha says the diffuser grille helps treble notes remain clearer at a distance and contributes to a balanced sound field for both player and listener.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Yamaha’s volume-related acoustic processing helps preserve a satisfying tonal balance during quieter practice.

That matters particularly in home environments, where the piano may often be used below full volume.

PRIVATE HEADPHONE PRACTICE

The YDP-166 supports headphone practice, and this bundle includes the Yamaha HPH-50B from day one.

Headphones can be especially useful for:

• Evening practice

• Early mornings

• Flats and apartments

• Shared households

• Family homes

• Lessons

STEREOPHONIC OPTIMIZER

Yamaha’s Stereophonic Optimizer is designed to create a more natural spatial impression through headphones.

Rather than making the piano appear to sound directly inside the listener’s ears, Yamaha aims to reproduce more of the sense of sound spreading naturally from an acoustic piano.

BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY

The current YDP-166 includes Bluetooth connectivity for music streaming, settings and compatible learning applications.

This makes it possible to integrate compatible smart devices more easily into everyday practice.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO

Stream compatible music through the piano’s built-in speaker system for:

• Playing along with songs

• Backing tracks

• Reference recordings

• Listening exercises

BLUETOOTH MIDI

Bluetooth MIDI supports wireless communication with compatible music and learning applications.

SMART PIANIST

The YDP-166 works with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.

Yamaha highlights benefits including:

• Simplified controls from a smart device

• Sheet music for all 353 preset Songs

• Practice support

• Recording and saving performances to the connected device

353 PRESET SONGS

The YDP-166 provides:

• 10 Voice Demo Songs

• 50 Classics

• 303 Lesson Songs

The lesson material includes established exercises and repertoire, giving developing pianists useful built-in practice content.

TWO-TRACK MIDI RECORDING

The YDP-166 provides onboard recording suitable for practice review and basic layered recording.

A two-track system allows separate parts to be captured independently, which can be useful for practising one hand against a previously recorded part.

USB AUDIO

The YDP-166 supports digital audio connectivity over USB for compatible computer, recording and education workflows.

STAGG PBF39 RWM VBK ADJUSTABLE PIANO BENCH

Correct seating height has a significant effect on:

• Arm position

• Wrist angle

• Shoulder comfort

• Hand position

• Pedal access

• General posture

The included Stagg PBF39 RWM VBK provides a dedicated adjustable piano bench rather than forcing the player to rely on unsuitable household seating.

The rosewood matt finish and black velvet fireproof top are specifically confirmed by Stagg for this model.

YAMAHA HPH-50B HEADPHONES

The included Yamaha HPH-50B provides a lightweight closed-back solution particularly suitable for digital instrument practice.

Yamaha describes the HPH-50 as a compact headphone offering carefully balanced bass and treble, with a swivelling earcup mechanism and adjustable headband designed for comfortable extended listening.

Useful pairings: Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible smartphone or tablet.
