Description

The Yamaha YDP-166WH Arius Digital Piano Bundle in White combines Yamaha's upgraded current-generation Arius home piano with a carefully coordinated Stagg PBF39 WHM VWH adjustable white piano bench and Yamaha HPH-50WH white headphones.

At the centre of the package is the Yamaha YDP-166WH Arius Digital Piano in White.

The YDP-166 represents an important step up within Yamaha's Arius range thanks to its new 88-note GrandTouch-E keyboard. Featuring synthetic ebony and ivory keytops plus escapement, GrandTouch-E is designed to provide greater responsiveness and expressive control than the GHS action used by the YDP-146.

Its principal piano Voice is sampled from Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand piano, while Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of the complex resonance generated when the strings, keys and pedals of an acoustic grand interact.

The YDP-166 also provides 192-note polyphony, 10 Voices, 353 preset Songs, three pedals with half-pedal support, two-track MIDI recording, Bluetooth Audio and MIDI, a 24-bit USB Audio Interface, Smart Pianist compatibility and Yamaha's Stereophonic Optimizer.

A substantially more powerful 20W × 2 amplification system drives twin 12cm speakers with diffuser grilles, giving the YDP-166 considerably greater acoustic authority than the YDP-146.

This Fair Deal Music bundle then completes the setup with two coordinated accessories.

The Stagg PBF39 WHM VWH adjustable bench features a matt white frame with white velvet seat, while the Yamaha HPH-50WH headphones continue the clean white colour theme and provide a practical solution for private practice.

For developing pianists, grade students, families, returning players and serious beginners, this is a particularly complete home-piano package.

WHY THIS BUNDLE MAKES SENSE

The YDP-166WH is already a serious home piano.

This bundle makes it a complete one.

The Stagg adjustable bench gives the pianist a proper seated playing position rather than forcing them to adapt to fixed-height household furniture.

The Yamaha HPH-50WH headphones provide private practice whenever the piano's speakers would be inconvenient.

And because all three components have been selected in complementary white finishes, the package works visually as well as practically.

That makes it especially suitable for:

  • Family homes

  • Grade students

  • Piano lessons

  • Developing pianists

  • Shared accommodation

  • Flats and apartments

  • Evening practice

  • Early-morning practice

  • Homes where a coordinated light-coloured piano setup is preferred

YAMAHA YDP-166WH – THE STEP-UP ARIUS

The YDP-166 occupies an important position within Yamaha's Arius range.

It retains the straightforward, piano-focused nature of the YDP-146 while upgrading two areas that affect the playing experience every time you sit down:

the keyboard and the speaker system.

The YDP-166 introduces Yamaha's GrandTouch-E keyboard.

It also increases amplification from 8W × 2 on the YDP-146 to a much stronger 20W × 2.

Those are meaningful physical improvements rather than simply additional menu functions.

88-NOTE GRANDTOUCH-E KEYBOARD

The defining upgrade on the YDP-166 is Yamaha's GrandTouch-E keyboard.

Yamaha designed GrandTouch-E to respond consistently across different playing techniques and dynamic levels.

The action provides:

  • 88 weighted keys

  • Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces

  • Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces

  • Escapement

  • 10mm key stroke

  • Four Touch Sensitivity settings

The result is a more sophisticated piano action than the GHS keyboard used by the YDP-146.

SYNTHETIC EBONY & IVORY KEYTOPS

The GrandTouch-E keyboard uses synthetic ebony and ivory keytops.

Their subtly textured surfaces are designed to provide comfortable, secure contact beneath the fingers during extended practice and performance.

ESCAPEMENT

GrandTouch-E includes escapement.

This recreates an element of the subtle mechanical sensation associated with the action of an acoustic grand piano when a key is played slowly and with control.

For a developing pianist, this adds another tactile detail to the playing experience.

TOUCH SENSITIVITY

The YDP-166 provides four keyboard-response settings:

  • Hard

  • Medium

  • Soft

  • Fixed

These alter how the piano's dynamics respond to the player's physical touch.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND PIANO VOICE

The principal piano Voice in the YDP-166 is sampled from Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand piano.

The CFX provides the tonal foundation for the instrument with a character designed to deliver:

  • Powerful bass

  • Clear treble

  • Rich harmonic colour

  • Broad dynamic range

  • Expressive response

This makes the YDP-166 suitable for everything from early lessons through to demanding home repertoire.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING LITE – VRM LITE

An acoustic grand piano does not produce isolated notes.

Strings interact with one another.

Pedalling changes which strings are free to vibrate.

The instrument's resonant structure contributes to the overall sound.

Yamaha's Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of these complex sympathetic resonances digitally.

The result is greater depth and interaction as notes, keys and pedals combine.

192-NOTE POLYPHONY

The YDP-166 provides 192-note maximum polyphony.

This gives the piano ample capacity for:

  • Complex repertoire

  • Sustain-heavy passages

  • Layered Voices

  • Detailed resonance

  • Two-track playback

10 BUILT-IN VOICES

The YDP-166 includes 10 instrument Voices.

These include sounds such as:

  • Grand piano

  • Electric piano

  • Pipe organ

  • Vibraphone

  • Strings

The instrument remains fundamentally piano-focused, but the additional Voices provide useful variety.

DUAL MODE

Dual mode allows two Voices to sound simultaneously across the keyboard.

For example:

Piano + Strings

This can create a broader combined texture for performance or experimentation.

DUO MODE

Duo divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges.

This allows two people to play side by side in the same register.

It can be particularly useful for:

  • Piano lessons

  • Teacher and student

  • Parent and child

  • Demonstrating fingering

  • Side-by-side practice

THREE-PEDAL SYSTEM

The YDP-166 includes:

  • Damper

  • Sostenuto

  • Soft

The damper pedal supports half-pedalling, allowing the pianist to control the amount of sustain according to pedal depth.

This gives students access to the three-pedal configuration expected from a traditional piano.

POWERFUL 20W × 2 AMPLIFICATION

One of the most important differences between the YDP-166 and YDP-146 is amplification.

The YDP-166 uses:

20W × 2 amplification

driving:

12cm speakers with diffuser × 2

This compares with 8W × 2 on the YDP-146.

The extra amplifier power gives the YDP-166 greater headroom, presence and authority when played through its internal speakers.

DIFFUSER GRILLE SPEAKER DESIGN

The YDP-166 uses Yamaha's latest diffuser grille speaker design.

The diffuser is designed to help higher frequencies project clearly into the surrounding room rather than concentrating the sound only around the player.

That contributes to a more balanced sound field for both pianist and listener.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Intelligent Acoustic Control – IAC automatically adjusts the tonal balance according to the selected volume level.

This helps the piano remain satisfying when played quietly, where bass and treble can otherwise become less perceptually prominent.

PRIVATE HEADPHONE PRACTICE

The YDP-166 provides two standard stereo headphone outputs.

This bundle includes the Yamaha HPH-50WH headphones, so quiet practice is available immediately.

This can be invaluable when:

  • Practising late at night

  • Practising early in the morning

  • Other people are watching television

  • Children are asleep

  • Living in a flat

  • Sharing accommodation

STEREOPHONIC OPTIMIZER

Yamaha's Stereophonic Optimizer helps create a more natural spatial impression when playing through headphones.

Rather than making the piano sound appear to originate directly inside the headphones, the processing is designed to create a broader sense of space similar to sitting at the piano itself.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO & MIDI

The YDP-166 provides Bluetooth Audio and MIDI, subject to regional availability.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO

Compatible audio from a smartphone or tablet can be streamed through the piano's internal sound system.

This is useful for:

  • Playing along with recordings

  • Backing tracks

  • Reference performances

  • Listening exercises

  • General music playback

BLUETOOTH MIDI

Bluetooth MIDI enables wireless MIDI communication with compatible music and learning applications.

This also provides convenient integration with supported Yamaha Smart Pianist functions.

SMART PIANIST

The YDP-166 is compatible with Yamaha's Smart Pianist app.

Smart Pianist provides a graphical interface for supported piano functions and can offer:

  • Simplified control from a smart device

  • Sheet music for the instrument's preset Songs

  • Practice-support functions

  • Recording and saving performances to a compatible device

For users who prefer a visual interface, it can make accessing the piano's digital features considerably easier.

353 PRESET SONGS

The YDP-166 includes:

  • 10 Voice Demo Songs

  • 50 Classics

  • 303 Lesson Songs

The lesson collection includes established exercises and repertoire, providing useful built-in material for developing pianists.

TWO-TRACK MIDI RECORDING

The onboard recorder provides:

  • 1 User Song

  • 2 tracks

  • Approx. 150KB per Song

  • Approx. 11,000 notes

The two-track design allows parts to be recorded separately.

This can be useful for:

  • Recording left and right hands independently

  • Reviewing practice

  • Playing along with a recorded part

  • Listening objectively to a performance

USB AUDIO INTERFACE

The YDP-166 includes a:

44.1kHz / 24-bit stereo USB Audio Interface

This enables high-quality digital audio communication with compatible computers and devices.

Potential uses include:

  • Computer recording

  • Online lessons

  • Music applications

  • Educational software

  • Digital practice workflows

STAGG PBF39 WHM VWH ADJUSTABLE PIANO BENCH

Correct seating position is an important part of piano technique.

The included Stagg PBF39 WHM VWH provides a dedicated adjustable piano seat rather than requiring the player to use unsuitable fixed-height household furniture.

The combination of a matt white frame and white velvet seat also makes it a particularly natural visual partner for the YDP-166WH.

BENCH SPECIFICATIONS

Specification Stagg PBF39 WHM VWH
Product Type Adjustable Piano Bench
Finish Matt White
Seat White Velvet
Adjustable Height 49–59cm
Seat Dimensions 55 × 32cm

WHY AN ADJUSTABLE BENCH MATTERS

A pianist's seated position affects:

  • Arm height

  • Wrist angle

  • Hand position

  • Shoulder comfort

  • Pedal access

  • General posture

A fixed household chair can easily place a player too high or too low.

The adjustable Stagg bench allows the seating height to be changed to better suit the individual player.

This is especially useful for:

  • Growing children

  • Families

  • Teachers and students

  • Households with several pianists

YAMAHA HPH-50WH HEADPHONES

The included Yamaha HPH-50WH headphones in White provide a compact closed-back solution for private digital-piano practice.

Yamaha designs the HPH-50 range to offer balanced reproduction suitable for musical instruments and everyday listening.

CLOSED-BACK DESIGN

The closed-back construction helps provide a focused private-practice experience.

38MM DRIVERS

Each earcup uses a 38mm dynamic driver.

ADJUSTABLE FIT

The HPH-50WH provides:

  • Adjustable headband

  • 90-degree swivelling earcups

This helps the headphones adapt comfortably to different users.

2-METRE CABLE

HOW IT COMPARES

YDP-166 vs YDP-146

This is the most important comparison within the current Arius range.

Both models provide:

  • 88 weighted keys

  • Yamaha CFX piano Voice

  • VRM Lite

  • 192-note polyphony

  • 10 Voices

  • 353 preset Songs

  • Three pedals with half-pedalling

  • Dual

  • Duo

  • Two-track recording

  • Bluetooth Audio & MIDI

  • 24-bit USB Audio Interface

  • Smart Pianist

  • 12cm diffuser speakers

The major differences are physical.

YDP-146

  • GHS keyboard

  • Matt black keytops

  • No escapement

  • 8W × 2 amplification

  • 38kg

  • 815mm high

  • PA-150 power supply

YDP-166

  • GrandTouch-E keyboard

  • Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

  • Escapement

  • 20W × 2 amplification

  • 42kg

  • 849mm high

  • PA-300C power supply

The YDP-166 therefore provides meaningful upgrades in the two areas a pianist directly experiences every time they play:

keyboard feel and acoustic output.

YDP-166 vs YDP-S56

The YDP-S56 shares much of the YDP-166's underlying musical specification, including:

  • GrandTouch-E keyboard

  • CFX Voice

  • VRM Lite

  • 20W × 2 amplification

  • Bluetooth

  • Smart Pianist

The major distinction is cabinet format.

The YDP-166 uses Yamaha's traditional upright-style Arius cabinet.

The YDP-S56 uses a much slimmer contemporary cabinet intended for rooms where depth is particularly limited.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Developing pianists, grade students, serious beginners and families who want a more sophisticated keyboard action and stronger speaker system than the YDP-146 while retaining the simplicity and value of Yamaha's Arius range.

Likely upgrade path: An especially logical move from portable weighted pianos, basic home digital pianos, unweighted keyboards and older entry-level Arius instruments.

Useful pairings: This bundle already covers the two most useful physical accessories with the adjustable Stagg bench and Yamaha headphones. Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible phone or tablet adds convenient control, scores and practice features.

Our tip: If you're deciding between the YDP-146 and YDP-166, focus on the keyboard first. The YDP-166's GrandTouch-E action with synthetic ebony/ivory surfaces and escapement is the biggest reason to step up. The jump from 8W × 2 to 20W × 2 amplification then makes the upgrade even more worthwhile if you'll regularly play through the internal speakers.

FDM view: The YDP-166 is the stronger long-term Arius choice for the developing pianist. The CFX sound engine, VRM Lite, polyphony and digital features are already strong on the YDP-146, so Yamaha has sensibly concentrated the YDP-166 upgrade where it matters most: touch and sound projection. Add the adjustable bench and HPH-50WH headphones, and this becomes a very complete package for regular home study.
