EMG 89 Guitar Pickup, (Used, Comm)

The EMG 89 is an active humbucking pickup designed for electric guitar, combining a full humbucker mode with an internally integrated single-coil mode within the same housing. It uses Alnico V magnets and active low-impedance circuitry powered by a 9V battery. The pickup is built around a dual-voice architecture derived from combining an EMG 85-style humbucker section with an SA-style active single-coil circuit, selectable through push-pull or switching systems. 

In humbucker mode, the EMG 89 produces a warm, high-output response with pronounced sustain, thick mids, and smooth high frequencies. When switched into single-coil mode, the pickup activates a separate internal coil structure that delivers a brighter, more open response with sharper attack and increased clarity. Unlike passive coil-splitting systems that disable one coil, the EMG 89 switches between two fully active voicings designed independently within the same pickup housing. 

The pickup is commonly used in versatile setups requiring both modern humbucker output and articulate single-coil textures without changing instruments. Its active design maintains low noise levels and consistent output across both modes, making it suitable for high-gain distortion, clean passages, and switching-heavy performance applications.
