2022 Fender Player Duo-Sonic HS Crimson Red Transparent, (Used)
Description
The 2022 Fender Player Duo-Sonic HS in Crimson Red Transparent is a compact, highly versatile short-scale electric that takes one of Fender’s original student designs and gives it considerably more modern firepower.
Its 24" scale length creates a softer, more forgiving string feel than a full-scale Stratocaster or Telecaster, while the HS pickup configuration combines a clear Duo-Sonic neck single-coil with a fuller bridge humbucker. The bridge pickup can also be coil split, giving the guitar a surprisingly broad tonal range from such a straightforward layout.
Finished in Crimson Red Transparent with a maple fingerboard and black pickguard, this Mexican-made example weighs just 6.9 lb, making it particularly comfortable for long rehearsals and live sets.
This Pre-Owned guitar is offered in Very Good condition.

Why Choose The Fender Player Duo-Sonic HS?
Comfortable 24" Short Scale
The Duo-Sonic uses a 24" scale, noticeably shorter than the 25.5" scale of a Stratocaster or Telecaster.
That reduces overall string tension and shortens the distance between frets, making the guitar particularly comfortable for players with smaller hands, extensive bending styles or anyone who simply prefers the more relaxed feel of a short-scale Fender.
Versatile HS Pickup Configuration
A Duo-Sonic single-coil at the neck provides a clear, articulate voice for clean playing and rhythm work.
At the bridge, a humbucker adds substantially more body and output for rock, overdrive and lead tones.
Coil-Splittable Bridge Humbucker
The bridge humbucker can be switched to single-coil operation, giving the Duo-Sonic another tonal personality without requiring additional pickups or complicated controls.
This makes the HS version considerably more versatile than its simple two-pickup appearance suggests.
String-Through Hardtail Bridge
Unlike a Stratocaster, there is no tremolo system to balance or maintain.
The six-saddle string-through-body hardtail offers individual saddle adjustment for accurate intonation while keeping tuning and setup straightforward.
Lightweight Working Guitar
At 6.9 lb, this particular example is notably easy to wear for extended periods.
That makes it especially attractive for gigging musicians, younger players and anyone who finds heavier solid-body guitars tiring during longer sets.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Duo-Sonic HS vs Standard Duo-Sonic
The conventional Duo-Sonic uses two single-coils and leans further towards bright, traditional Fender sounds. The HS adds a bridge humbucker and coil split, making it the more versatile choice for players who regularly use overdrive or distortion.
Duo-Sonic HS vs Fender Mustang
Both share a compact short-scale Fender feel, but the Duo-Sonic’s fixed bridge keeps things particularly simple. Mustang models vary more widely in bridge and electronics specifications depending on the version.
Duo-Sonic HS vs Player Stratocaster HSS
A Player Stratocaster HSS offers a longer 25.5" scale, three pickups and tremolo bridge. The Duo-Sonic is more compact, lighter and simpler, with the shorter scale giving it a noticeably softer playing feel.
Duo-Sonic HS vs Jaguar
A Jaguar also uses a 24" Fender scale but traditionally adds significantly more complicated switching and a floating vibrato. The Duo-Sonic is the stripped-back alternative for players who want the short scale without the extra hardware.
Who Is It For?
Indie And Alternative Players
The Duo-Sonic has long appealed to players looking for something outside the standard Stratocaster and Telecaster choices, and the HS version gives it enough output to handle modern alternative guitar sounds particularly well.
Rock And Punk Guitarists
The bridge humbucker works effectively with overdrive, distortion and fuzz, while the hardtail bridge keeps the guitar straightforward and robust.
Players Who Prefer Short-Scale Guitars
Anyone who finds a conventional Fender scale a little stretched may immediately feel more comfortable on the Duo-Sonic’s 24" scale.
Younger Or Smaller Players
The compact dimensions can make the instrument easier to handle without reducing it to a novelty or beginner-only guitar.
Studio Musicians
The combination of single-coil, humbucker and split-humbucker tones gives the Duo-Sonic plenty of useful contrasting sounds for layered recording.
Suitable Genres And Uses
The Player Duo-Sonic HS is particularly well suited to indie, alternative, punk, pop, rock, blues, garage rock, grunge, shoegaze, studio recording and effects-heavy guitar rigs.
Its combination of compact dimensions and versatile electronics also makes it a useful second guitar for players who normally use full-scale instruments.
What Does A Shorter Scale Actually Change?
Scale length is the vibrating distance between the nut and bridge.
A shorter scale reduces string tension when the same tuning and string gauge are used. On the Duo-Sonic’s 24" scale, bends require slightly less effort and the frets sit a little closer together than on a 25.5" Fender.
The difference is very noticeable without making the guitar feel miniature. Many experienced players deliberately choose short-scale instruments because of the feel rather than because they need a smaller guitar.
Story & Context: Fender Duo-Sonic
The original Fender Duo-Sonic appeared in June 1956, shortly after the single-pickup Musicmaster.
Both were initially conceived as affordable student instruments, using shorter scale lengths and smaller bodies to make them easier for younger musicians to play.
The Duo-Sonic quickly developed a life well beyond the student market. Over the decades, short-scale Fenders became associated with artists including Jimi Hendrix, David Byrne and numerous indie and alternative musicians.
Fender revived the Duo-Sonic in 2016, updating the concept with a more practical 24" scale and contemporary neck specifications.
The modern HS version pushes that evolution further by combining the fundamental short-scale Duo-Sonic layout with a coil-splittable bridge humbucker, creating an instrument far more versatile than the original student model.

Why Buy Pre-Owned From Fair Deal Music?
Buying Pre-Owned can be a particularly good way to access discontinued colours and specifications such as this Crimson Red Transparent Duo-Sonic HS.
The model also offers something meaningfully different from the more common Stratocaster and Telecaster formats, making it a useful addition to an existing guitar collection rather than simply duplicating another full-scale Fender.
Every Pre-Owned guitar at Fair Deal Music is individually checked and assessed before sale.
Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The 2022 Fender Player Duo-Sonic HS Crimson Red Transparent is a deceptively versatile little guitar.
The 24" scale and 6.9 lb weight make it exceptionally comfortable, while the neck single-coil, bridge humbucker and coil-split function give it enough tonal range to move from clean indie sounds to much heavier rock without complication.
Best suited for: Indie, alternative, rock and pop players who want a lightweight short-scale Fender with more versatility than a traditional Duo-Sonic.
Customers usually upgrade from: Squier short-scale guitars, beginner electrics and more basic Duo-Sonic or Mustang-style instruments.
Most commonly paired with: Valve amplifiers, fuzz, overdrive, distortion, modulation, delay and reverb.
Our tip: Try slightly heavier strings if you want a firmer feel from the 24" scale. Short-scale guitars respond particularly well to experimenting with string gauge.
Showroom feedback: The combination of low weight, short scale and bridge humbucker makes this an extremely easy guitar to pick up and play, but it has enough tonal range to remain useful well beyond beginner level.
