Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Overdrive Pedal – Used
Description
Quick Product Summary
The Electro-Harmonix Soul Food is a responsive overdrive and clean boost designed to add gain, volume and definition without completely changing the natural character of your guitar and amplifier. Its generous headroom makes it equally effective for subtle tone enhancement, pushing a valve amplifier or producing a more traditional overdriven sound.
This used example is in Good condition, showing visible signs of previous ownership and regular pedalboard use. With simple Volume, Drive and Treble controls, the Soul Food is easy to dial in and works particularly well as part of a stacked gain setup.
What Makes the Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Special?
The Soul Food uses an analogue circuit with boosted internal power rails, providing increased headroom and a dynamic response that reacts naturally to picking strength and guitar volume changes. At lower Drive settings it can function as a clean or lightly coloured boost, while higher settings introduce increasingly pronounced overdrive and midrange presence.
A dedicated Treble control provides straightforward tonal adjustment, while an internal switch lets you choose between true bypass and buffered bypass depending on the needs of your pedalboard.
Who Is It For?
The Soul Food is ideal for guitarists looking for a flexible low-to-medium-gain overdrive that works with the existing character of their amplifier.
It is particularly well suited to blues, rock, indie, country and roots styles, and also works effectively as a boost before another overdrive or distortion pedal.

FAQs
What type of pedal is the Electro-Harmonix Soul Food?
The Soul Food is an analogue overdrive and clean boost designed to provide anything from extra output and subtle grit through to fuller overdrive.
Can it be used as a clean boost?
Yes. With the Drive control set low and Volume increased, the Soul Food works effectively as a clean or lightly coloured boost.
What does the Drive control do?
Drive adjusts the amount of input gain. Lower settings stay cleaner, while higher settings introduce more overdrive and additional midrange emphasis.
What does the Treble control do?
Treble adjusts the high-frequency content of the effect. Around the centre position the response is relatively neutral, while turning it clockwise produces a brighter sound.
Does the Soul Food have plenty of headroom?
Yes. Its circuit uses boosted internal power rails to provide increased headroom and definition.
Can it push a valve amplifier into overdrive?
Yes. Raising the output level can push the front end of a responsive valve amplifier harder for additional natural breakup.
Can it be stacked with other overdrive pedals?
Yes. The Soul Food works particularly well before or after other gain pedals, depending on whether you want to boost their input or increase the final output level.
Does it use true bypass?
The Soul Food can be configured for true bypass or buffered bypass using an internal switch.
Why would I use buffered bypass?
Buffered bypass can help maintain signal strength across longer cable runs and larger pedalboards.
Is the Soul Food analogue?
Yes. The audio circuit is fully analogue.
Can it run from a battery?
Yes. It accepts a standard 9V battery.
How much current does it draw?
The Soul Food draws approximately 22mA at 9V DC.
Is a power supply included?
No. No power supply is included with this used pedal.
What condition is this example in?
This example is graded Good, with visible signs of previous use consistent with a pre-owned effects pedal.
