This example features a quartersawn maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 9.5" radius, 21 medium-jumbo frets and a substantial Large “C” neck profile. This Pre-Owned example is offered in Very Good condition and includes a hardcase.

Very Good Condition
This Fender Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster Closet Classic Silverburst is offered in Very Good condition.
The lacquer displays an intentionally cracked appearance consistent with the vintage-inspired presentation of this individual Custom Shop guitar.

Why Choose The Fender Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster?
Flat Magnet Jazzmaster Pickups
The Flat Magnet Jazzmaster pickups give this guitar the broad, clear single-coil response associated with the Jazzmaster format, making it particularly effective for clean amplification, reverb, modulation, fuzz and layered effects.
Large “C” Neck Profile
The substantial Large “C” profile gives this particular Custom Shop build a more pronounced neck feel than many slimmer vintage reproductions, making it especially appealing to players who prefer something substantial in the fretting hand.
Modernised 9.5" Radius
A 9.5" fingerboard radius provides a flatter playing surface than a traditional 7.25" vintage Fender radius, offering a useful compromise between classic Fender feel and easier bending.
Quartersawn Maple Neck
The quartersawn maple neck gives this particular build a premium Custom Shop specification while the rosewood fingerboard retains the darker-board aesthetic strongly associated with early-1960s Fender offsets.
Distinctive Silverburst Closet Classic Finish
Silverburst is considerably less conventional on a Jazzmaster than Sunburst or traditional Fender custom colours, giving this example a strong individual visual identity before the aged lacquer treatment is even considered.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster vs Custom Shop ’63 Jazzmaster Relic
A ’63 Relic leans more heavily into a visibly played and worn aesthetic, whereas the Closet Classic concept is associated more with age, lacquer checking and a preserved vintage appearance. Fender currently describes its early-’60s Custom Shop Jazzmasters around traditional offset construction and hand-wound Jazzmaster pickups.
Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster vs American Vintage Jazzmaster
An American Vintage-style Jazzmaster offers the classic Fender offset experience in a production instrument, while the Custom Shop model is better suited to buyers looking for a more individual specification, specialised neck profile and factory ageing treatment.
Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster vs Fender Jaguar
Both share Fender’s offset design language and floating tremolo concept, but the Jazzmaster’s longer 25.5" scale and wider single-coil pickup design give it a distinctly different playing and tonal character.
Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster vs Modern Jazzmaster
A modernised Jazzmaster may use simplified electronics, different bridges or contemporary pickups. This Custom Shop model is better suited to players drawn specifically to the early-’60s Jazzmaster identity but who appreciate features such as the 9.5" radius and medium-jumbo frets.
Who Is It For?
Alternative And Indie Guitarists
The Jazzmaster has become one of the defining guitar formats for players using fuzz, delay, modulation and unusual amplifier textures.
Shoegaze Players
Its broad single-coil response and distinctive offset electronics work particularly well with heavily layered effects and ambient textures.
Surf And Instrumental Guitarists
The floating tremolo format and clear single-coil response naturally complement reverb-heavy clean sounds and expressive chord movement.
Studio Musicians
A Jazzmaster occupies a different tonal space from Stratocasters, Telecasters and humbucker guitars, making it valuable when a recorded arrangement needs an alternative electric-guitar texture.
Custom Shop Collectors
The combination of Silverburst, Closet Classic ageing, Large “C” neck and Flat Magnet pickups gives this individual build considerably more personality than a standard-production Jazzmaster.

Why Choose A Jazzmaster Over A Stratocaster Or Telecaster?
A Jazzmaster offers a noticeably different response from Fender’s more familiar designs. Its broad single-coil pickups, offset body and floating tremolo give it a character that works particularly well for open chords, effects-heavy textures and expressive pitch movement.
The Jazzmaster also has a cultural and musical identity of its own. Fender originally intended it as an upscale instrument, but it became strongly associated with surf music during the early 1960s before later becoming a favourite of alternative and indie musicians.

Story & Context: Fender ’62 Jazzmaster
Fender introduced the Jazzmaster in 1958 as a premium instrument intended to sit above the Stratocaster in the company’s range. Its offset-waist body, floating tremolo and unusual electronics represented a significant departure from Fender’s earlier solid-body designs. Although aimed at jazz musicians, it soon found a much more enthusiastic audience among early surf players.
By the early 1960s, the Jazzmaster had developed into one of Fender’s most recognisable designs. The 1962 specification has remained particularly significant in Fender history: when Fender Japan revived the Jazzmaster in 1986, it chose a vintage-style 1962 reissue as the basis for the returning model.
The Fender Custom Shop approach takes that historical foundation and allows individual specifications to move beyond strict reproduction. On this example, the 9.5" radius, medium-jumbo frets, Large “C” profile, Silverburst finish and Flat Magnet pickups make it a distinctive interpretation rather than simply a replica of an original 1962 instrument.

Why Buy Pre-Owned From Fair Deal Music?
Buying Pre-Owned is an excellent way to access individual Fender Custom Shop builds that may no longer be available in the same combination of finish, neck and electronics.
This Silverburst ’62 Jazzmaster is particularly interesting because its Custom Shop specification combines vintage offset inspiration with several player-focused choices rather than simply following one standard production recipe.
At Fair Deal Music, our Pre-Owned guitars are individually checked and assessed before sale, helping customers buy premium, specialist and Custom Shop instruments with greater confidence.
Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Fender Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster Closet Classic Silverburst is a particularly strong option for someone who wants a premium Jazzmaster with plenty of vintage character but does not want a completely period-correct neck specification.
The Large “C” profile, 9.5" radius and medium-jumbo frets give it a purposeful playing feel, while the Flat Magnet pickups and traditional offset format preserve the character that makes a Jazzmaster different from more conventional Fender designs.
Best suited for: Alternative, indie, shoegaze, surf and effects-focused guitarists looking for a premium Custom Shop offset.
Customers usually upgrade from: Fender Player, Vintera, American-series Jazzmasters and other production offset guitars.
Most commonly paired with: Valve amplifiers, fuzz, overdrive, spring reverb, delay, chorus and modulation effects.
Our tip: Jazzmasters respond particularly well to effects and amplifier interaction. Spend time experimenting with pickup choice, gain level and reverb before changing the fundamental guitar setup.
Showroom feedback: The Silverburst finish and substantial Large “C” neck give this example a much stronger individual identity than a straightforward vintage-reissue Jazzmaster.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Large “C” neck profile feel like?
It is a more substantial rounded profile than many modern slim Fender necks, making it particularly appealing to players who prefer more material in the fretting hand.
Is a 9.5" radius easier for string bending than a vintage 7.25" radius?
Generally, yes. The flatter 9.5" surface gives strings more room during larger bends, while still retaining a recognisably traditional Fender feel.
Is the cracked lacquer damage?
The aged lacquer appearance forms part of the supplied Closet Classic specification of this guitar. Fender confirms that Closet Classic Custom Shop instruments use thin-skin nitrocellulose lacquer intended for an aged presentation.
Is a Jazzmaster good for fuzz pedals?
Yes. Jazzmasters have become particularly closely associated with fuzz, distortion and effects-heavy alternative styles because their broad single-coil response provides plenty of detail for complex processed sounds.
Does the Jazzmaster tremolo work like a Stratocaster tremolo?
No. The Jazzmaster uses a different floating vibrato design mounted behind the bridge, producing a smoother style of pitch movement that is particularly useful for subtle chord vibrato.
Can it be used with modern amp modellers?
Yes. Its passive output works with conventional valve amplifiers, analogue pedalboards, profiling equipment and digital modelling systems.
Can I request a closer look before purchasing?
Yes. Our Request a Video Demo option is particularly useful for an individual Custom Shop guitar because it allows you to examine the Silverburst finish, lacquer ageing and overall condition more closely before purchasing.
