Fender Japan TLG-94P 50th Anniversary Telecaster Custom, (Used, Comm)
Description
The Fender Japan TLG-94P Telecaster Custom, commonly known as the 50th Anniversary Telecaster, is a rare and highly distinctive mid-1990s Japanese Fender combining traditional Telecaster architecture with some of the most extravagant cosmetic appointments seen on a production Tele from the period.
Its standout features include pearloid body binding, matching pearloid pickguard, gold hardware, matching headstock and rosewood fingerboard, creating a look quite unlike a conventional Telecaster.
Underneath the elaborate cosmetics is a straightforward vintage-style Tele formula, with two single-coil pickups, traditional Volume and Tone controls and a 3-way selector.
These Japanese-built TLG models have developed a strong following among Fender Japan enthusiasts and are also associated with The Edge of U2, who has been pictured using a similarly specified example.
This Pre-Owned guitar is in Very Good condition, weighs an actual 7.04 lbs, and includes a gigbag.

RARE TLG-94P MODEL
The TLG-94P is one of the more unusual Telecaster models produced by Fender Japan during the 1990s.
The model is closely related to the TLG-70P found in Japanese catalogues, with surviving instruments and paperwork showing some crossover between the two designations.
TLG-94P examples are particularly recognisable by their elaborate pearloid trim, matching pickguard, gold hardware and matching headstock.
The model is frequently referred to internationally as a 50th Anniversary Telecaster, particularly in relation to examples produced around Fender's 50th anniversary in 1996.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
The appeal of the TLG-94P is that it remains fundamentally a Telecaster while looking unlike almost any standard Telecaster Fender produced during the period.
The pearloid binding and gold hardware give it a genuinely distinctive appearance, but the basic pickup and control layout remains refreshingly traditional.
For collectors of Fender Japan instruments, the combination of rarity, unusual cosmetics and mid-1990s Japanese production makes the TLG-94P particularly interesting.
At 7.04 lbs, this example is also pleasantly manageable for a full-size Telecaster.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
Fender Japan Production
The TLG-94P comes from the highly regarded period of Fender Japan production that has become increasingly sought after among players and collectors.
Japanese Fender instruments from this era are known for precise construction, reliable hardware and consistently good playability.
Telecaster Body Shape
The familiar single-cut Telecaster body keeps the playing experience rooted firmly in classic Fender territory.
The unusual cosmetics therefore enhance the appearance without changing the straightforward character of the design.
Pearloid Body Binding
The broad pearloid body binding is one of the defining visual features of the TLG-94P.
It gives the guitar a much more decorative appearance than the conventional white or cream binding used on most bound Telecasters.
Pearloid Pickguard
A coordinating pearloid pickguard extends the decorative theme across the front of the guitar.
Together with the binding and gold hardware, it gives this model its unmistakable appearance.
Matching Headstock
The headstock is finished to complement the body rather than using the plain natural maple appearance found on most traditional Telecasters.
This further separates the TLG-94P from standard production Fender models.
Maple Neck
The bolt-on maple neck provides the direct attack and familiar response associated with Fender construction.
Rosewood Fingerboard
The rosewood fingerboard gives the guitar a traditional mid-1990s Fender appearance and a smooth playing surface.
7.25" Fingerboard Radius
The vintage-style 7.25" radius provides the curved fingerboard feel associated with classic Fender instruments.
It is particularly comfortable for chord work and traditional rhythm playing.
25.5" Scale Length
The classic 25.5" Fender scale length gives the strings clear articulation and familiar Telecaster tension.
21 Frets
The guitar follows the traditional Fender format with 21 frets.
Dual Telecaster Single Coils
The traditional two-single-coil arrangement delivers the direct, articulate sounds expected from a Telecaster.
The neck pickup provides the warmer voice while the bridge position supplies the sharper attack and definition that has made the Telecaster famous.
Three-Way Switching
A traditional 3-way selector gives access to:
-
Bridge pickup
-
Bridge and neck pickups
-
Neck pickup
Master Volume & Tone
The straightforward Master Volume and Master Tone configuration keeps the control layout immediate and familiar.
Six-Saddle Bridge
The TLG-94P uses an individually adjustable six-saddle bridge, allowing accurate intonation for each string.
Gold Hardware
Gold-plated hardware is another defining part of the model's appearance.
It provides a dramatic contrast against the body finish and pearloid detailing.
7.04 lbs Actual Weight
This individual guitar weighs an actual 7.04 lbs, making it comfortably manageable for rehearsals, recording sessions and longer gigs.

HOW IT COMPARES
TLG-94P vs Standard Telecaster
A standard Telecaster normally has relatively restrained cosmetics.
The TLG-94P adds pearloid binding, pearloid pickguard, matching headstock and gold hardware, giving it a dramatically more decorative appearance.
TLG-94P vs Telecaster Custom
The term Telecaster Custom can refer to several different Fender designs.
This TLG-94P should not be confused with the traditional 1970s-style Telecaster Custom featuring a neck humbucker. The TLG-94P retains a conventional two-single-coil Telecaster pickup configuration.
Japanese Fender vs Modern Production Telecaster
A modern Telecaster may offer flatter fingerboard radii and more contemporary neck specifications.
The TLG-94P combines distinctly vintage-style dimensions with the construction quality and unusual cosmetic specification associated with Fender Japan.

FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Telecaster players and Fender Japan collectors who want something considerably rarer and more visually distinctive than a standard production Tele.
Customers usually upgrade from: Standard Telecasters, Japanese reissue Fender models and conventional vintage-style T-style guitars.
Most commonly paired with: Clean valve amplifiers, compression, overdrive, delay, chorus and reverb.
Our tip: Don't dismiss this as purely a cosmetic collector's piece. Underneath the pearloid and gold hardware is a fundamentally simple Telecaster-style instrument, which means it remains extremely usable as an everyday guitar.
Showroom feedback: The combination of pearloid trim, gold hardware and matching headstock makes the TLG-94P immediately recognisable. At only 7.04 lbs, this particular example also has a very comfortable weight compared with some surviving examples.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this Fender Japan TLG-94P used?
Yes. This is a Pre-Owned Fender Japan TLG-94P in Very Good condition.
Was it made in Japan?
Yes.
Is the TLG-94P rare?
Yes. It is a relatively uncommon Fender Japan model and is encountered far less frequently than standard Japanese Telecasters.
Is this commonly called the 50th Anniversary Telecaster?
Yes. The TLG-94P is widely known and traded internationally as a 50th Anniversary Telecaster Custom.
Was the TLG-94P definitely created specifically for Fender's 50th anniversary?
The history is less clear than many listings suggest. Surviving examples from the anniversary period carry Fender's 50th Anniversary decal, but specialist Fender Japan research indicates that the decal was also used across wider 1996 production. For that reason, this guitar is described as commonly known as the 50th Anniversary model rather than making an unsupported claim about its original design brief.
What is the relationship between the TLG-94P and TLG-70P?
The model has appeared under both designations. Period Fender Japan catalogues reference the TLG-70P, while surviving guitars are known with TLG-94P stamps, making the model history unusually complicated.
What fingerboard does it have?
Rosewood.

What colour is the hardware?
Gold.

What condition is it in?
It is in Very Good condition.
