Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass RW Harvest Green Metallic, (Used)
Description
The Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass in Harvest Green Metallic takes the familiar P Bass platform and significantly expands its tonal capabilities with a P/J pickup configuration, 18-volt active preamp, 3-band EQ and switchable active/passive operation.
A Player II Modified Precision Bass pickup provides the powerful fundamental and midrange punch associated with a traditional P Bass, while the Player II Noiseless Jazz Bass bridge pickup adds extra definition, growl and articulation. A pan control allows the two pickups to be blended continuously, making this far more versatile than a conventional single-pickup Precision Bass.
This version combines an alder body with a rosewood fingerboard, Modern “C” maple neck, rolled fingerboard edges, 20 medium-jumbo frets and a Fender HiMass bridge.
This pre-owned example is presented in Very Good Condition, showing some cosmetic wear consistent with careful previous ownership while remaining fully functional.
No case or gigbag is included.

What Makes The Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass Special?
The Player II Modified Active Precision Bass takes the core character of a Precision Bass and adds substantially more control without losing the fundamental simplicity that makes the P Bass so useful.
Its combination of a Player II Modified Precision Bass pickup and Player II Noiseless Jazz Bass bridge pickup provides both the thick, authoritative sound of a split-coil P pickup and the additional attack and definition of a bridge-position Jazz Bass pickup.
The switchable 18V active preamp with 3-band EQ then allows bass, middle and treble frequencies to be shaped directly from the instrument, while passive operation means the bass can still deliver a more traditional response when desired.
Key Features & Benefits
Player II Modified Precision Bass Pickup
The main split-coil pickup provides the essential foundation of the instrument.
Expect:
- Strong low-end fundamentals
- Punchy midrange
- Full fingerstyle tones
- Excellent pick response
- Classic rock and soul character
- A sound that sits naturally within a band mix
It provides the familiar authority players expect from a Precision Bass while working seamlessly with the additional Jazz Bass bridge pickup.
Player II Noiseless Jazz Bass Bridge Pickup
The bridge position uses a Player II Noiseless Jazz Bass pickup.
Adding the bridge pickup brings:
- Additional upper-mid definition
- More attack
- Tighter note articulation
- Extra growl
- Greater tonal flexibility
The Noiseless design is especially useful when blending in sharper bridge-pickup sounds without introducing the level of electrical hum associated with some conventional single coils.
Pickup Pan Control
Rather than using a simple pickup selector, the Player II Modified bass uses a pan control.
This allows you to move continuously between:
- Precision Bass pickup
- A blend of both pickups
- Jazz Bass bridge pickup
Intermediate settings allow much finer tonal adjustment than fixed switching.
18V Active Preamp
The onboard active system operates at 18 volts, providing plenty of headroom for clean EQ adjustment.
The 3-band EQ provides independent:
- Treble boost/cut
- Midrange boost/cut
- Bass boost/cut
This makes it possible to adapt the bass quickly for different amplifiers, stages, recordings and musical styles.
Active Mode
Active mode provides access to the full onboard 3-band EQ.
It is especially useful for:
- Adding bass weight
- Tightening low frequencies
- Increasing midrange presence
- Creating brighter slap tones
- Adjusting the bass to a room or amplifier
- Driving effects and recording equipment with a strong signal
Passive Mode
The active/passive mini toggle allows the bass to operate without the active EQ section.
This provides a more traditional response and gives players the option of using the instrument much like a conventional passive P/J bass.
The dedicated passive tone control provides additional high-frequency shaping.
Modern “C” Maple Neck
The maple neck uses Fender's comfortable Modern “C” profile.
It is designed for an approachable feel across a wide range of techniques including:
- Fingerstyle
- Pick playing
- Slap
- Fast position changes
- Chordal bass work
Rolled Rosewood Fingerboard Edges
The rosewood fingerboard features rolled edges, creating a smoother transition between the fingerboard and neck.
This gives the neck a more played-in feel and reduces the sharper edge sometimes found on brand-new instruments.
9.5" Fingerboard Radius
The 9.5" radius is a familiar modern Fender specification, providing a comfortable surface for general bass playing.
20 Medium-Jumbo Frets
Twenty medium-jumbo frets provide a substantial and comfortable fretting surface without dramatically changing the traditional Precision Bass layout.
1.625" TUSQ Nut
The 1.625" / 41.3mm nut width sits between the traditionally broader P Bass neck and the particularly narrow feel associated with many Jazz Basses.
The Graph Tech TUSQ nut provides a consistent string-contact point and contributes to stable tuning.
Fender HiMass Bridge
A substantial 4-saddle Fender HiMass bridge is fitted.
Its increased mass provides a solid platform for the strings and allows accurate adjustment of:
- Action
- Intonation
- String height
The chrome-plated zinc saddles sit securely within the bridge structure for stable adjustment.
Tapered-Shaft Open-Gear Tuners
The tapered tuning-machine shafts are designed to encourage the string windings downwards towards the headstock face.
This creates a stronger break angle across the nut and helps contribute to stable string positioning.
Harvest Green Metallic Finish
Harvest Green Metallic gives the Player II Modified bass a distinctive contemporary appearance without moving too far away from traditional Fender styling.
On the rosewood-fingerboard version, the combination of:
- Harvest Green Metallic body
- Dark rosewood fingerboard
- Black pickup covers
- Black/white/black pickguard
- Nickel/chrome hardware
creates a particularly cohesive modern look.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Player II Modified Active Precision Bass vs Standard Player II Precision Bass
A standard Precision Bass centres around the traditional single split-coil pickup and passive volume/tone controls.
The Player II Modified adds:
- Jazz Bass bridge pickup
- Pickup pan control
- 18V active preamp
- 3-band EQ
- Active/passive switching
- HiMass bridge
- TUSQ nut
- Upgraded tuning machines
It is therefore considerably more versatile while retaining the fundamental P Bass platform.
Player II Modified P Bass vs Jazz Bass
A traditional Jazz Bass uses two single-coil-style pickups and a narrower-neck feel.
The Player II Modified combines a strong Precision pickup foundation with the extra definition of a Jazz bridge pickup, making it a useful compromise for players who enjoy aspects of both designs.
Active vs Passive Bass
A passive bass provides straightforward controls and a direct pickup response.
An active bass adds powered EQ that can boost as well as cut frequencies.
Because the Player II Modified offers both active and passive modes, it does not force the player to choose permanently between those approaches.
Who Is It For?
Working bassists – Active/passive operation and flexible EQ make it easy to adapt between different gigs.
Rock players – The Precision pickup provides plenty of weight and punch.
Funk bassists – Blending in the Jazz bridge pickup and boosting upper frequencies can produce more articulate slap and fingerstyle sounds.
Studio musicians – The P/J pickup configuration and onboard EQ offer a wide range of recording tones from one instrument.
Pop players – Strong fundamental notes and excellent control over EQ make it easy to fit into dense arrangements.
Players who normally use a P Bass but want more flexibility – The Modified version retains the basic P Bass feel while dramatically expanding its sound palette.
Suitable Genres & Applications
Particularly well suited to:
- Rock
- Classic rock
- Funk
- Soul
- R&B
- Pop
- Indie
- Alternative
- Metal
- Punk

- Country
- Disco

Why Choose A P/J Pickup Configuration?
A P/J bass combines two of the most established Fender bass pickup formats.
The Precision pickup provides the thick, punchy foundation that works almost everywhere, while the Jazz bridge pickup provides extra bite and definition.
With a pan control, the player can decide exactly how much of each character is present.
That makes the format particularly useful for players who need one bass to cover a broad range of musical situations.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass in Harvest Green Metallic is an excellent option for players who love the fundamental authority of a P Bass but need considerably more flexibility.
The combination of a Player II Modified Precision pickup, Noiseless Jazz bridge pickup and continuously variable pan control already expands the traditional P Bass formula significantly. Adding an 18V active preamp, 3-band EQ and switchable passive mode makes it capable of covering an exceptionally broad range of bass sounds.
The rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges, Modern “C” neck, TUSQ nut, tapered-shaft tuners and HiMass bridge also give it a strong performance-focused specification.
Presented in Very Good Condition, this is a particularly capable pre-owned bass for working musicians, recording players or anyone wanting one Fender capable of covering both traditional and modern sounds.
No case or gigbag is included.
