Description

Quick Product Summary

The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass Single-Cut in Vintage White combines comfortable short-scale playability with classic Jet-inspired styling and a flexible dual-pickup layout.

Its 30-inch scale length reduces the stretch between frets compared with a conventional 34-inch bass, making it particularly approachable for beginners, guitarists moving onto bass and experienced players who simply prefer the compact response of a short-scale instrument.

A pair of Low Down single-coil bass pickups provides everything from warm, rounded lows to more defined and articulate tones. Separate neck and bridge pickup volume controls let you blend the two pickups in different proportions, while a master tone control keeps the electronics straightforward.

Finished in Vintage White with a contrasting tortoise pickguard, gold Gretsch logo, nickel hardware and Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, the Jet Club Bass offers a distinctive alternative to the traditional P and J-style bass formats.

Service / Setup Work

The bass is checked and set up before leaving the shop.

As with any wooden instrument, setup can move slightly during delivery because changes in temperature and humidity can affect neck relief, string height and tuning stability. Minor adjustment after arrival can occasionally be beneficial depending on your preferred playing style and local environment.

Why Choose The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass?

Comfortable 30-Inch Short Scale

The 30-inch scale length gives the Jet Club Bass a noticeably more compact feel than a conventional 34-inch bass.

Closer fret spacing reduces left-hand stretches and can make lower-position playing especially comfortable, which is useful for beginners, guitarists adapting to bass and players who simply prefer a shorter instrument.

Low Down Single-Coil Bass Pickups

Two Gretsch Low Down single-coil pickups give the Jet Club Bass a useful range of sounds.

The neck pickup provides a rounder and fuller response, while the bridge pickup adds more attack and definition. Together they provide enough tonal flexibility for everything from supportive fingerstyle lines to more articulate picked bass parts.

Independent Pickup Volume Controls

Rather than using a conventional pickup selector, the Jet Club Bass gives each pickup its own volume control.

This allows you to blend neck warmth and bridge definition in different proportions, making it easy to shape the bass sound without relying entirely on amplifier EQ.

Four-Saddle Adjustable Bridge

The four-saddle adjustable top-load bridge provides individual adjustment for each string, helping with accurate intonation and playing setup.

Genuine Bone Nut

A genuine bone nut provides a hard, stable contact point at the end of the fingerboard and is a welcome appointment on an accessible short-scale bass.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives

Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass vs G2220 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass II

The G2220 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass II is one of the closest alternatives within the Gretsch range.

The Streamliner uses a 30-inch scale, nato body and neck, genuine bone nut, Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays and independent pickup volume controls.

The G2220 uses a slightly longer 30.3-inch scale and a more conventional pickup selector with master volume and tone controls.

Choose the Streamliner if you prefer direct control over the balance between the two pickups. The G2220 makes more sense if you prefer selecting fixed pickup combinations with a switch.

Gretsch Jet Club Bass vs Traditional 34-Inch Bass

A conventional long-scale bass normally uses a scale around 34 inches, resulting in wider fret spacing and generally firmer string tension.

The Jet Club Bass is the stronger choice for players who value easy stretches, compact dimensions and the distinctive response of a short-scale instrument.

A 34-inch bass may be more appropriate if you specifically want traditional long-scale feel and tension.

Gretsch Jet Club Bass vs Single-Pickup Short-Scale Bass

A single-pickup short-scale bass can be wonderfully straightforward, but the Jet Club Bass provides more tonal flexibility.

With separate neck and bridge pickup volumes, you can move from warm and rounded to brighter and more articulate sounds without changing instruments.

Who Is The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass For?

The Jet Club Bass is particularly well suited to:

  • Beginners looking for a comfortable first bass

  • Guitarists making the move to bass

  • Players with smaller hands or shorter reach

  • Experienced bassists who prefer short-scale instruments

  • Indie and alternative musicians

  • Rock and pop players

  • Songwriters and home-recording musicians

  • Guitarists looking for an additional studio bass

  • Players wanting something visually different from traditional bass designs

Its uncomplicated electronics make it easy to understand while still offering enough tonal control to remain useful as your playing develops.

Playing Styles & Applications

The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass can comfortably cover indie, rock, pop, alternative, blues, soul, singer-songwriter material and general studio work.

Favouring the neck pickup provides a warmer and broader sound that works well for supportive fingerstyle playing and traditional bass roles.

Increasing the bridge pickup level adds definition and attack, helping picked lines and more rhythmic parts sit clearly in a mix.

Blending both pickups gives you a useful middle ground that can be fine-tuned depending on the song, amplifier and playing style.

Is A 30-Inch Short-Scale Bass Easier To Play?

For many players, yes.

The shorter scale reduces the distance between frets, so the fretting hand does not need to stretch as far as it would on a typical 34-inch bass. This can make lower-register scales and wider intervals feel more manageable.

Short-scale basses are also popular with guitarists because their overall dimensions feel closer to a conventional electric guitar.

The response is not simply that of a smaller long-scale bass, though. Short-scale instruments have their own feel and playing character, which many bassists specifically seek out.

Compatibility & Practical Buying Advice

The Jet Club Bass works with standard bass amplifiers, suitable audio interfaces, bass pedals and pedalboards.

Its dual single-coil layout works particularly well with:

  • Compression

  • Overdrive

  • Chorus

  • Octave effects

  • Envelope filters

  • EQ and preamp pedals

Gretsch offers compatible optional protection for the Jet Bass/Baritone format, including the G2168 gig bag and a dedicated Jet Bass/Baritone hardshell case.

If you change substantially from the factory .040–.095 string gauge, the bass may benefit from setup adjustments to neck relief, action and intonation.

Story & Context

The Gretsch Streamliner Collection takes recognisable elements of Gretsch design and combines them with straightforward modern features at an accessible level.

The Jet Club Bass applies that idea to a compact short-scale bass, retaining the familiar single-cut Jet silhouette while simplifying the construction around everyday playability.

Its 30-inch scale, Low Down single-coil pickups and individual pickup volume controls give it a clear practical identity rather than making it simply a scaled-down version of another Gretsch bass.

The Vintage White finish, tortoise pickguard, Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays and Gretsch Radio-style control knobs bring plenty of visual character while keeping the instrument recognisably part of the wider Gretsch family.

Fair Deal Music Verdict

★★★★★ 5/5

The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass Single-Cut in Vintage White is a strong short-scale bass for players who want comfort, simplicity and something with considerably more visual personality than the typical entry-level instrument.

The 30-inch scale is approachable without feeling toy-like, while the two Low Down pickups and independent volume controls give you enough tonal flexibility to cover a broad range of everyday bass work.

Best suited for: Beginners, guitarists moving onto bass, short-scale fans and musicians looking for an affordable Gretsch bass with distinctive styling.

Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level basses with simpler electronics, or players move across from standard electric guitar.

Most commonly paired with: A compact bass amplifier, compressor, tuner pedal and suitable short-scale gig bag or hard case.

Our tip: Start with both pickup volumes fully open, then gradually reduce one rather than immediately changing your amplifier EQ. Small adjustments to the pickup blend can make a surprisingly large difference.

Showroom feedback: The combination of a 30-inch scale and narrow nut makes the Jet Club Bass easy to approach, while the Vintage White and tortoise combination gives it a much more individual look than many conventional beginner and intermediate basses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gretsch Jet Club Bass a short-scale bass?

Yes. It uses a 30-inch scale, making it noticeably shorter than a conventional 34-inch long-scale bass.

Is the Jet Club Bass suitable for beginners?

Yes. The shorter scale reduces fret spacing and the controls are straightforward, making it a strong first bass for newer players.

Is this a good bass for guitarists moving onto bass?

Yes. Many guitarists find a 30-inch bass easier to adapt to because the dimensions and fret spacing are closer to a conventional electric guitar than a full-size 34-inch bass.

Can I blend the neck and bridge pickups?

Yes. Each pickup has its own volume control, so you can blend the two rather than selecting fixed combinations with a pickup switch.

What does the bridge pickup add?

The bridge pickup adds extra attack and definition, which is useful for picked lines, rhythmic playing and situations where you need the bass to cut more clearly through a mix.

Can I use standard bass effects?

Yes. Compression, overdrive, chorus, octave, EQ, envelope and preamp pedals can all be used with the Jet Club Bass.

Does the bass require a battery?

No. Its electronics are passive, so no battery is required.

How does it differ from the Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet Bass II?

The Streamliner uses a 30-inch scale, nato construction, bone nut, Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays and independent pickup volume controls. The G2220 uses a slightly longer scale and a more conventional pickup selector arrangement.

Is a case available?

Yes. Gretsch offers compatible optional gig bag and hardshell case solutions for the Jet Bass/Baritone format.

Can I fit heavier strings?

Yes, although a significant change in string gauge changes overall tension and can affect neck relief, action and intonation. A setup is recommended when making substantial changes.

The Gretsch Streamliner Jet Club Bass Single-Cut in Vintage White is an appealing choice for anyone who wants genuine short-scale comfort without settling for a generic-looking bass. Its compact 30-inch scale, flexible dual single-coil electronics and distinctive Gretsch styling make it equally suitable as a first bass, an everyday short-scale instrument or a useful studio addition.
