What Makes the Schecter C-1 Exotic Ebony Special?
The defining feature of the C-1 Exotic Ebony is its genuine ebony top, presented beneath a Natural Satin finish that allows the individual grain pattern of the wood to remain clearly visible. Because ebony is a natural material, colouring and figuring can vary from guitar to guitar, giving each instrument its own visual character. The mahogany body, arched top and black multi-ply binding give the guitar a premium appearance without distracting from the exotic wood itself.
The performance specification is equally impressive. Its multi-ply Roasted Maple/Purpleheart neck incorporates carbon-fibre reinforcement rods and Schecter’s comfortable Thin “C” profile, while an ebony fingerboard, 14" radius and 24 X-Jumbo frets provide a smooth modern playing surface. The Diamond ’78 pickup pairing offers plenty of power for driven sounds while retaining a more open passive response, and the dedicated coil-split switch further expands the available tones.
Who Is It For?
The Schecter C-1 Exotic Ebony is an excellent choice for intermediate, advanced and experienced guitarists who want a modern performance guitar with more organic, natural styling than a conventional solid-colour instrument.
Its versatile passive pickups make it particularly well suited to rock, hard rock, blues, alternative, progressive music and general studio work. Players who want a single guitar capable of covering warm neck sounds, punchy bridge tones and brighter split-coil textures will find plenty of flexibility here.
Why Choose An Exotic-Wood Electric Guitar?
An exotic wood top gives an instrument visual character that cannot be reproduced perfectly from one guitar to another. Rather than relying entirely on paint or graphics, the C-1 Exotic Ebony lets the natural grain of the ebony contribute directly to its appearance.
The appeal goes beyond cosmetics, however. This model combines its exotic top with a genuinely performance-oriented specification, so players do not need to choose between distinctive looks and practical modern playability.
How Does It Compare?
Compared With A Conventional C-1
The C-1 Exotic Ebony retains Schecter’s familiar 25.5" C-1 platform but adds premium visual and construction features including the ebony top, multi-ply roasted neck, ebony fingerboard, locking tuners and Wilkinson tremolo. It is particularly appealing to players who want the performance characteristics of a modern C-1 with a more individual natural aesthetic.
Compared With A Fixed-Bridge C-1
A hardtail C-1 provides the simplest option for restringing and alternative tunings. The Wilkinson WVS50IIK tremolofitted to the C-1 Exotic Ebony adds conventional vibrato and pitch control without moving into the more specialised setup of a double-locking Floyd Rose system.

Is the top genuine ebony?
Yes. The C-1 Exotic Ebony features an ebony top over its mahogany body.
Will every C-1 Exotic Ebony look identical?
No. Ebony is a natural material, so variations in grain, figuring and colouring are expected. This gives individual examples their own unique visual appearance.
What pickups are fitted?
The bridge position uses a Schecter Diamond ’78 Special, while the neck features a Schecter Diamond ’78.
Are the pickups active?
No. Both pickups are passive, so the guitar does not require a battery for normal operation.
Can the pickups be coil split?
Yes. The guitar has a dedicated two-way coil-split toggle switch, allowing brighter and leaner alternatives to the standard full humbucker sounds.
What is the neck made from?
The neck uses a multi-ply combination of Roasted Maple and Purpleheart, reinforced internally with carbon-fibre rods.
Does it have an ebony fingerboard as well as an ebony top?
Yes. In addition to its ebony body top, the C-1 Exotic Ebony also features an ebony fingerboard.
What are the fingerboard inlays?
The ebony fingerboard features an elaborate Abalone and Pearloid Vine of Life inlay design, giving the guitar an additional premium visual detail.
What is the neck profile like?
Schecter uses its Thin “C” profile, measuring approximately 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the twelfth. It provides a modern, comfortable feel suitable for both rhythm and lead playing.
How many frets does it have?
The C-1 Exotic Ebony features 24 X-Jumbo frets, providing a full two-octave fretting range on every string.
Does it have locking tuners?
Yes. Schecter locking tuners are fitted as standard, helping simplify string changes and providing secure string attachment.
What tremolo does it use?
The guitar features a Wilkinson WVS50IIK tremolo, providing conventional vibrato and pitch effects without the locking nut used by a Floyd Rose system.
What scale length does it use?
It has a 25.5" scale length, providing familiar string tension and response for modern electric guitar playing.
What strings are fitted from the factory?
Schecter fits Ernie Ball Regular Slinky #2221 strings in .010-.046 gauge.
