Why You’ll Love It

Flagship Clavinova Performance in a Contemporary Polished White Finish

The CLP-885PWH combines Yamaha’s most advanced upright-style Clavinova technology with a distinctive Polished White cabinet.

This makes it especially appealing for players who want a premium digital piano that delivers serious acoustic-piano-inspired performance while also making a strong visual statement in modern interiors.

From delicate pianissimo passages through to powerful fortissimo playing, the instrument is designed to respond naturally to changes in touch, articulation and pedalling.

Detailed Features & Benefits

GrandTouch Keyboard with Counterweights

At the heart of the CLP-885PWH is Yamaha’s premium GrandTouch keyboard action.

The 88-note keyboard incorporates:

• Wooden white keys

• Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

• Escapement

• Counterweights

• 88-key Linear Graded Hammers

• Multiple touch-sensitivity settings

Rather than dividing the keyboard into broad weighted zones, Yamaha’s Linear Graded Hammer system provides individually graduated weighting across the keyboard.

The addition of counterweights helps the keys respond naturally during delicate passages and rapid repetitions, while the longer GrandTouch key mechanism gives the pianist greater control further towards the rear of each key.

The result is a keyboard designed to provide the control and responsiveness expected by accomplished pianists.

Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Piano

The CLP-885 includes the sound of Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano.

Known for its clarity, dynamic range and powerful projection, the CFX voice provides a highly versatile piano sound suitable for everything from delicate solo repertoire to demanding concert works.

Bösendorfer Imperial Concert Grand

Alongside the Yamaha CFX is the distinctive sound of a Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand.

The Bösendorfer offers a contrasting tonal character, giving players two flagship concert grand piano sounds to choose from.

This allows the pianist to select a different musical character depending on repertoire, room acoustics and personal preference.

Binaural CFX and Bösendorfer Piano Sampling

Headphone practice is one of the major advantages of a premium digital piano.

The CLP-885 provides binaural sampling for both the Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer grand piano voices, creating a more spacious and immersive experience when headphones are connected.

Yamaha’s Stereophonic Optimiser can also enhance the spatial presentation of compatible non-binaural voices.

For players who practise regularly through headphones, this helps provide a more natural sense of performing at the instrument rather than listening to sound delivered directly into the ears.

Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM

An acoustic grand piano produces far more than the sound of individual strings.

Strings interact with one another, the soundboard resonates, the cabinet contributes to the overall tone and the use of the pedals changes how these elements respond.

Yamaha’s Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) technology digitally recreates these complex interactions, helping notes blend and resonate together more naturally.

The result is a piano sound with greater depth and acoustic-style behaviour.

Grand Expression Modeling

The sound of an acoustic piano is strongly influenced by how each note is played.

Grand Expression Modeling allows the CLP-885 to respond to subtle differences in touch and articulation.

Instead of relying purely on note velocity, the instrument analyses aspects of the pianist’s technique and uses them to shape the resulting tone.

This helps provide more nuanced control during expressive playing.

GrandTouch Pedals with GP Response Damper

The CLP-885PWH features Yamaha’s GrandTouch pedal system, comprising:

• Damper pedal with half-pedal support

• Sostenuto pedal

• Soft pedal

The damper incorporates Yamaha’s GP Response Damper mechanism, designed to reproduce the changing resistance experienced when operating the damper pedal of a grand piano.

For experienced pianists, this adds another layer of physical feedback alongside the GrandTouch keyboard.

Grand Acoustic Imaging

Yamaha’s Grand Acoustic Imaging technology is designed to create a more convincing relationship between the position of the keys and the sound heard from the speaker system.

Instead of the entire keyboard seeming to come from a small number of fixed loudspeaker points, the system creates a broader and more natural acoustic image.

This helps reinforce the sensation of playing a larger acoustic instrument.

Premium Three-Way Speaker System

The CLP-885 uses a sophisticated three-way stereo speaker configuration.

Each side incorporates:

• 16 cm speaker with diffuser

• 8 cm speaker with diffuser

• 2.5 cm dome speaker with Bidirectional Horn

The system also incorporates Spruce Cone Speakers, drawing on Yamaha’s extensive experience in acoustic piano manufacturing.

Amplification is rated at:

(45 W + 30 W + 40 W) × 2

This gives the CLP-885 substantial dynamic capability while allowing different frequency ranges to be reproduced by dedicated loudspeakers.

53 Main Voices + 480 XG Voices

Although piano performance is its primary focus, the CLP-885 offers a substantial library of additional sounds.

The instrument includes:

• 53 main voices

• 480 XG voices

• 14 Drum/SFX Kits

These provide additional electric pianos, organs, strings and other instrument sounds for performance, arranging, recording and creative experimentation.

The CLP-885 also includes four historical fortepiano voices for further tonal variety.

256-Note Polyphony

With up to 256 notes of polyphony, the CLP-885 provides ample processing capacity for sustained passages, layered voices, complex pedal work and sophisticated arrangements without prematurely cutting off sounding notes.

Dual, Split and Duo Modes

Dual

Layer two compatible voices across the keyboard for richer combined textures.

Split

Assign different voices to the left- and right-hand sections of the keyboard.

Duo

Divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges, making it particularly useful for piano lessons where teacher and student can play the same notes simultaneously.

Built-In Rhythms

The CLP-885 includes 20 rhythm patterns, providing drum and bass accompaniment for practice, creative playing and informal performance.

MIDI Recording

The built-in MIDI recorder provides extensive options for capturing and developing performances.

The CLP-885 supports:

• Up to 250 MIDI songs

• Up to 16 recording tracks

• Approximately 500 KB per song

• Approximately 22,000 notes per song

Multi-track recording allows arrangements to be built one part at a time or individual elements of a performance to be analysed separately.

USB Audio Recording

Performances can also be recorded directly as audio to compatible USB storage.

The CLP-885 supports stereo WAV recording at 44.1 kHz / 16-bit, with recording times of up to 80 minutes per song.

This is useful when a completed performance needs to be transferred or played back without relying on MIDI data.

USB Audio Interface

The CLP-885 can function as a 44.1 kHz / 24-bit stereo USB audio interface, allowing digital audio communication with compatible computers and external equipment.

This can simplify home recording, music production and computer-based learning setups.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices can stream audio through the CLP-885’s speaker system, allowing players to listen to music or practise alongside backing tracks.

Bluetooth MIDI is also supported where available, enabling convenient wireless communication with compatible applications.

Yamaha Smart Pianist

The CLP-885 is compatible with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.

Smart Pianist provides a visual interface for compatible piano settings and functions, making it easier to navigate sounds and other features from a compatible smart device.

Wireless Bluetooth MIDI connectivity is supported in applicable regions.

Touch-Sensitive Control Panel

The premium Polished White cabinet is complemented by Yamaha’s discreet touch-sensitive control panel and full-dot LCD display.

The controls provide access to the instrument’s extensive digital functions while maintaining the clean, sophisticated appearance expected of a flagship home piano.
