Why Choose The Yamaha Genos2?

AWM And FM Sound Generation

Genos2 combines Yamaha’s sample-based AWM technology with FM synthesis inspired by Yamaha’s legendary DX heritage. This gives the instrument both highly detailed acoustic sounds and the distinctive dynamic character of FM electric pianos, synths and digital textures.

1,991 Voices Plus 75 Drum/SFX Kits

The enormous factory sound library covers pianos, electric pianos, organs, guitars, strings, brass, woodwind, synths, orchestral instruments, world instruments and much more.

800 Accompaniment Styles

Genos2 offers 800 Styles, covering an extremely broad range of musical genres. One Touch Settings allow suitable Voices to be recalled alongside Styles, making it easier to prepare songs quickly.

Ambient Drums

Ambient Drums provide additional control over the perceived room and ambience around the drum sound, allowing the rhythm section to sit differently within a mix without simply applying conventional reverb.

Style Dynamics Control

Style Dynamics Control lets you change the energy and intensity of accompaniment Styles in real time, helping a performance build and relax more naturally rather than remaining at a fixed dynamic level.

76-Key FSX Keyboard With Aftertouch

The FSX keyboard provides enough range for splits, layers and two-handed arrangements while supporting both velocity and aftertouch for expressive control.

9-Inch Touchscreen

The large colour touchscreen provides central control over Voices, Styles, registrations, effects, songs and system functions, while a separate Live Control display provides additional feedback for the physical controls.

Extensive Hands-On Control

Six assignable knobs, nine assignable sliders, nine assignable buttons and three dedicated articulation buttons make Genos2 particularly powerful for performers who want direct control without constantly navigating menus.

Why Choose A Flagship Arranger Workstation?

A flagship arranger such as Genos2 differs from a conventional synthesizer or stage piano because it can provide an entire interactive backing arrangement in real time.

Bass, drums, guitars, strings and other accompaniment parts can respond to the chords you play, while variations, fills, intros and endings can be controlled during the performance. For solo entertainers, songwriters and home musicians, this allows one player to create a much fuller arrangement without preparing every backing part in advance.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives

Yamaha Genos2 vs Original Genos

The original Genos remains a highly capable arranger, but Genos2 expands the concept with FM synthesis, Ambient Drums, Style Dynamics Control, Steinberg REVelation Reverb and updated Live Control feedback. For players wanting Yamaha’s most advanced current arranger technology, Genos2 is the stronger choice.

Yamaha Genos2 vs PSR-SX920

The PSR-SX920 offers many modern Yamaha arranger features in a smaller and more affordable 61-key package. Genos2 goes considerably further with its 76-note FSX aftertouch keyboard, larger sound library, greater polyphony, expanded physical controls and flagship connectivity.

Yamaha Genos2 vs PSR-SX720

The PSR-SX720 is an excellent home and performance arranger for players who do not need flagship-level control or sound capacity. Genos2 is better suited to demanding professional users who require maximum flexibility, aftertouch, expanded outputs and a significantly larger library.

Who Is It For?

Professional Entertainers

Genos2 is particularly well suited to solo performers and entertainers who need sophisticated accompaniment, quick registration changes and extensive real-time control.

Home Arranger Players

Players who enjoy creating full arrangements from the keyboard can access hundreds of accompaniment Styles without needing a separate computer-based production setup.

Songwriters

Chord Looper, Styles, MIDI recording and audio functions make Genos2 useful for turning a basic chord sequence into a developed arrangement quickly.

Singers And Keyboard Players

The microphone input supports vocal processing, Vocal Harmony and Synth Vocoder features, allowing Genos2 to act as the centre of a solo or duo performance setup.

Experienced Yamaha Arranger Users

Players moving from Tyros, original Genos or the upper PSR-SX range will find familiar Yamaha arranger concepts combined with significantly more powerful sound and control capabilities.

What Makes Genos2 Different From A Standard Keyboard?

Most portable keyboards provide sounds and accompaniment, but Genos2 is built around much deeper control over an entire performance.

Its Styles can react dynamically to your playing, while registrations allow complex combinations of sounds, effects, accompaniment settings and performance parameters to be recalled quickly. The 76-key keyboard, aftertouch, assignable controllers, professional outputs and microphone processing also make it much closer to a complete live-performance workstation than a conventional home keyboard.

Story & Context: Yamaha Genos2

Yamaha’s professional arranger lineage stretches back through the Tyros series, which began in 2002 and developed through five generations as a flagship platform for advanced home players and professional entertainers.

In 2017, Yamaha replaced Tyros with the original Genos, shifting the focus further towards stage musicians. Genos adopted a 76-key format across the range, a large touchscreen and a new operating architecture designed to make future software development and expansion easier.

Yamaha launched Genos2 on 15 November 2023, six years after the original Genos. The second generation expanded Yamaha’s flagship arranger concept by introducing FM synthesis alongside AWM sampling, Ambient Drums, Style Dynamics Control and Steinberg REVelation Reverb. (Yamaha)

It remains the top-end model in Yamaha’s arranger workstation family and represents the culmination of decades of Yamaha development in automated accompaniment, performance Voices and live keyboard control. (Yamaha)

Fair Deal Music Verdict

★★★★★ 5/5

The Yamaha Genos2 is one of the most comprehensive arranger workstations available for musicians who want an entire performance environment built into a single keyboard.

The combination of the FSX 76-note keyboard, enormous Voice library, 800 Styles, FM synthesis, Style Dynamics, Ambient Drums and extensive physical controls makes it exceptionally capable for serious home players and professional entertainers alike.

Best suited for: Professional entertainers, advanced home players, songwriters and experienced arranger-keyboard users.

Customers usually upgrade from: Yamaha Tyros models, original Genos, PSR-SX series keyboards and other premium arranger instruments.

Most commonly paired with: Powered speakers or PA system, sustain pedal, expression pedal, microphone and headphones.

Our tip: Spend time building Registration banks around complete songs rather than simply saving favourite Voices. Genos2 becomes considerably more powerful when Styles, Voices, effects and performance settings are organised as complete live setups.

Showroom feedback: Genos2 is at its best when treated as a complete performance workstation rather than simply a keyboard with lots of sounds. Its real strength is how quickly a sophisticated arrangement can be controlled by one player.
