The Yamaha GNS-MS01 is the dedicated 2.1 speaker system designed specifically for the Yamaha Genos workstation keyboard.

It combines:

• 2 × 20W satellite speakers

• 1 × 40W subwoofer

to provide a complete stereo monitoring system for Genos without requiring separate third-party speakers, stands or complex cable routing.

Yamaha designed the system as a direct companion to Genos, with cabling arranged specifically around the workstation so setup remains clean and straightforward.

The satellite speakers handle the stereo image and higher-frequency detail, while the dedicated subwoofer extends the low end, giving Genos styles, drums, bass lines, orchestral sounds and full arrangements substantially more physical impact than small desktop speakers.

DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR GENOS

The biggest reason to choose the GNS-MS01 is simple:

It was designed by Yamaha specifically for Genos.

Rather than using generic powered monitors and routing separate left/right cables around the keyboard, the GNS-MS01 is intended to connect directly to Genos with a much cleaner integrated arrangement. Yamaha explicitly describes the system as dedicated to the Genos workstation and highlights the simplified speaker cabling.

That makes it particularly attractive for permanent or semi-permanent home Genos setups.

2.1 SPEAKER CONFIGURATION

The GNS-MS01 uses a 2.1 layout.

That means:

• Left satellite speaker

• Right satellite speaker

• Dedicated subwoofer

The satellite speakers create the stereo image and reproduce most of the midrange and treble.

The subwoofer handles lower frequencies.

For an arranger workstation such as Genos, this is particularly useful because the instrument often reproduces full arrangements containing:

• Drums

• Bass

• Pianos

• Guitars

• Strings

• Brass

• Vocals

• Effects

A dedicated subwoofer gives those arrangements more weight and depth.

20W + 20W SATELLITE AMPLIFICATION

Each satellite speaker is powered at:

20W

giving a combined satellite output of:

20W + 20W

Yamaha specifies this output at 1kHz into 4Ω.

This provides the stereo portion of the system.

40W SUBWOOFER

The dedicated subwoofer provides:

40W output

specified by Yamaha at 60Hz into 8Ω.

This dedicated low-frequency amplifier gives the GNS-MS01 more authority than a simple pair of compact speakers.

40HZ–20KHZ FREQUENCY RESPONSE

Yamaha specifies an overall frequency response of:

40Hz to 20kHz (-10dB).

That range is designed to cover both the low-frequency energy of bass and drums and the upper-frequency detail of keyboard Voices and percussion.

SATELLITE SPEAKER DESIGN

Each satellite speaker uses:

• 2cm dome tweeter

• 8cm cone midrange driver

Yamaha specifies the tweeter at 5Ω and the midrange driver at 4.5Ω.

This two-driver arrangement helps separate high-frequency detail from the midrange content.

SUBWOOFER DRIVER

The subwoofer uses a:

16cm / 6.5-inch cone driver

rated at:

8Ω.

The dedicated larger driver is responsible for extending the system into the lower frequencies.

COMPACT SATELLITE DIMENSIONS

Each satellite measures approximately:

110mm wide × 179mm high × 157mm deep

and weighs approximately:

1.1kg.

Their compact size allows them to sit neatly around the Genos without taking over the workspace.

SUBWOOFER DIMENSIONS

The subwoofer measures approximately:

351mm wide × 343mm high × 221mm deep

and weighs:

6.5kg.

It can be positioned beneath or near the keyboard setup, depending on the available room and cabling.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

Yamaha specifies:

Power Supply: 100–240V AC, 50/60Hz
Power Consumption: 48W.

The wide-range power input makes the system suitable for use across different mains regions with the appropriate supplied power connection.

CLEANER CABLE MANAGEMENT

Yamaha designed the GNS-MS01 specifically to simplify speaker integration with Genos.

Rather than treating the speakers as completely independent monitors, the system is intended to connect directly to the workstation using dedicated cabling.

This makes the setup:

• Cleaner

• Faster

• Easier to maintain

• Less cluttered

• More visually integrated

Yamaha specifically highlights the simplified cable arrangement as one of the system’s advantages.

OFFICIAL GENOS COMPATIBILITY

The GNS-MS01 is officially listed by Yamaha as an accessory for the original Genos workstation.

Yamaha’s archived Genos documentation also includes settings specifically for controlling sound output through the optional GNS-MS01 speaker system.

IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY NOTE

The GNS-MS01 was designed for the original Genos.

Do not assume compatibility with other Yamaha keyboards simply because they have audio outputs.

The connection arrangement and physical design are Genos-specific.

For any instrument other than the original Genos, compatibility should be checked before purchase.

GNS-MS01 VS GENERIC POWERED MONITORS

Generic powered monitors can certainly be used with many keyboards, but the GNS-MS01 has several practical advantages when paired with Genos.

Yamaha GNS-MS01

• Designed specifically for Genos

• Integrated cabling

• Dedicated subwoofer

• Compact satellite speakers

• Yamaha-matched system

• Cleaner home setup

Generic Powered Monitors

• May offer more flexibility

• Can be used with multiple instruments

• Often require separate audio cables

• May require stands or additional positioning

• Usually no dedicated Genos integration

For a dedicated Genos home setup, the GNS-MS01 is the neater solution.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Original Yamaha Genos owners who want the dedicated Yamaha speaker system rather than assembling a separate monitor setup.

Useful pairing: The Yamaha Genos workstation.

Our tip: The main reason to choose the GNS-MS01 over generic powered speakers is integration. The system was designed around Genos, so the cabling, positioning and overall setup are much tidier than a generic left/right monitor arrangement.

FDM view: The GNS-MS01 is a very sensible accessory for a permanent Genos setup. Two 20W satellites provide the stereo image, while the dedicated 40W subwoofer gives styles, drums and bass considerably more physical weight. It is compact, purpose-built and far neater than piecing together a separate speaker system.
