WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
The Yamaha PSR-E583 is designed to make performance feel immediate.
Instead of hiding useful functions several menus deep, Yamaha provides dedicated controls for features such as articulation, effects, looping and sound manipulation. That means you can change the character of a sound, trigger an articulation or build a repeating musical idea while you're actually playing.
The huge sound library also makes the PSR-E583 remarkably adaptable. You can sit down with a straightforward piano sound, move into a full arranger performance with drums and backing instruments, then connect a microphone or external device and build a much more complete performance setup.
For developing musicians, there is also plenty of room to grow. You can begin with automatic accompaniment and simple chord modes, then gradually explore recording, sampling, arpeggios, DSP effects, registrations and deeper performance controls as your confidence increases.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
890 Voices for a Huge Range of Music
The PSR-E583 includes 890 Voices, comprising:
-
352 standard instrument Voices
-
40 Drum/SFX Kits
-
40 Arpeggio Voices
-
458 XGlite Voices
Among these are 19 Super Articulation Lite Voices, helping selected sounds reproduce more of the performance character associated with the real instrument.
The practical advantage is simple: you're not locked into one musical style.
The PSR-E583 can cover traditional piano-based music one moment and move into synths, guitars, organs, strings, brass, percussion or internationally inspired sounds the next.
This makes it especially useful for musicians who play a broad repertoire.
Super Articulation Lite
Yamaha's Super Articulation Lite Voices are designed to recreate expressive details that ordinary keyboard sounds can miss.
A guitar doesn't just produce a clean pitched note. Players also create string noise, slides and other articulations. Wind instruments have breath noises and characteristic attacks.
Super Articulation Lite allows supported Voices to reproduce some of these additional details, making performances feel more convincing.
Dedicated articulation controls make these effects easier to access during real-world playing.
345 Accompaniment Styles
The PSR-E583 contains 345 preset accompaniment Styles.
Each Style provides automatic drums, bass and harmonic backing that responds to the chords you play.
Styles cover a wide range of musical genres, including:
-
Pop
-
Rock
-
Dance
-
Jazz
-
Traditional repertoire
-
Worship
-
World music
-
Contemporary international styles
This effectively gives you a responsive backing band inside the keyboard.
You provide the chords and musical direction; the PSR-E583 builds the accompaniment around you.
Smart Chord
For players who are still developing their chord knowledge, Smart Chord can simplify accompaniment.
Rather than requiring every note of a complex chord to be played manually, Smart Chord allows the arranger to interpret simpler input and create musically appropriate harmony.
That makes the PSR-E583 more accessible to developing players without limiting what more experienced musicians can do.
Auto Chord Play
Auto Chord Play takes accompaniment another step further.
The PSR-E583 includes:
-
100 preset chord progressions
-
10 user-programmable chord progressions
Once selected, the keyboard can play the chord sequence automatically while the Style continues underneath.
This can free up both hands for playing melodies, solos or more involved keyboard parts.
It is also an excellent creative tool for practising improvisation or developing song ideas.
Looper Function
The built-in Looper allows musical phrases, chord sequences or rhythmic ideas to be recorded and repeated.
That opens up a wide range of practical uses.
You can:
-
Build repeating chord progressions
-
Practise solos over a loop
-
Create layered performance ideas
-
Develop song sections
-
Free your hands from repeatedly playing the same phrase
For players interested in contemporary performance techniques, the Looper can turn the PSR-E583 into a much more creative instrument than a conventional portable keyboard.
Quick Sampling
The Quick Sampling system lets you capture audio and assign it to the keyboard's sampling buttons.
Sampling sources include:
-
AUX IN
-
Microphone input
-
USB audio interface
-
Compatible WAV files
The system supports four samples and provides approximately 9.6 seconds of total sampling time.
Sampling modes include:
-
One Shot
-
Loop
This lets you incorporate your own sounds, vocal clips, effects or musical phrases into a performance.
Yamaha has also designed the system so that sample playback can be synchronised with a Style, helping sampled material enter at the correct musical point.
Powerful DSP Effects
The PSR-E583 provides a substantial internal effects system.
This includes:
-
41 DSP1 types
-
12 DSP2 types
-
57 Motion Effects
-
15 Reverb types
-
7 Chorus types
-
5 Master EQ settings
DSP processing can dramatically change the character of a sound.
You can add drive to guitars, movement to synths, ambience to acoustic instruments or more dramatic processing for performance sounds.
The dedicated controls make these effects much more useful in live playing because you can change them without interrupting your performance.
Motion Effects
The PSR-E583 includes 57 Motion Effects.
These are designed to create dramatic real-time changes in sound through effects such as filtering, pitch movement and modulation.
For electronic music, dance styles and contemporary performance, Motion Effects can add far more energy than simply playing a static preset.
Pitch Bend & Modulation
Unlike many entry-level portable keyboards, the PSR-E583 provides both Pitch Bend and Modulation controls.
Pitch Bend is especially useful for:
-
Guitar solos
-
Synth leads
-
Brass lines
-
Wind instruments
Modulation can introduce additional movement or expression depending on the selected Voice.
Together, these controls make lead sounds considerably more expressive.
Two Live Control Knobs
The two assignable Live Control knobs allow sound parameters and effects to be adjusted while you play.
Depending on the selected function, they can be used to alter elements such as:
-
Filter
-
Effects
-
Resonance
-
Style parameters
-
Other performance settings
This turns the PSR-E583 into a much more hands-on instrument.
Instead of simply choosing a preset, you can actively shape the sound as part of the performance.
164 Arpeggio Types
The built-in arpeggiator provides 164 types.
Hold a chord or group of notes and the PSR-E583 can automatically create repeating rhythmic patterns.
This is useful for:
-
Synth parts
-
Dance music
-
Electronic accompaniment
-
Guitar-like picking patterns
-
Creative songwriting
It can turn a simple chord into a much more dynamic musical part.
Microphone Input & Vocal Effects
The PSR-E583 includes a dedicated microphone input.
That makes it particularly useful for singer-keyboard players or anyone using the instrument as part of a small performance setup.
You can connect a compatible microphone and apply built-in vocal effects while singing along with your keyboard performance.
For solo entertainers, worship musicians and home performers, this can simplify the setup considerably.
Separate L/R Line Outputs
The PSR-E583 includes dedicated Left and Right line outputs.
This is an important feature for musicians using the keyboard on stage.
Instead of relying on a headphone socket to feed an external sound system, the keyboard can be connected properly to:
-
PA systems
-
Powered speakers
-
Mixers
-
Studio equipment
That helps position the PSR-E583 as a genuine performance instrument rather than simply a home keyboard.
USB Audio & MIDI Over USB-C
The PSR-E583 uses USB TO HOST via USB-C and can transmit both audio and MIDI.
This allows connection to compatible computers and smart devices for:
-
Recording
-
Music production
-
MIDI control
-
Educational apps
-
Content creation
Because digital audio can be transferred directly, many simple recording setups can be created without requiring a separate audio interface.
USB TO DEVICE
A dedicated USB TO DEVICE port allows compatible USB flash drives to be used for storing and loading data.
This is useful for recordings, songs and other compatible user files.
Rec'n'Share Compatibility
The PSR-E583 can be integrated with Yamaha's supported Rec'n'Share workflow on compatible devices.
This is designed to help musicians record audio and video performances and create content more easily.
For players making social media videos, rehearsal recordings or performance clips, this adds another useful dimension to the keyboard.
6-Track Song Recorder
The internal MIDI-style song recorder supports:
-
Up to 10 user songs
-
6 tracks
-
5 melody tracks
-
1 Style track
-
Approx. 19,000 notes across all recordings
This allows you to build more detailed arrangements by recording individual parts separately.
It is ideal for songwriting, arranging and practising without needing to use a computer every time you want to capture an idea.
WAV Audio Recording
The PSR-E583 can also record performances as WAV audio.
Recording format is:
-
44.1kHz
-
16-bit
-
Stereo
Maximum recording time is approximately 80 minutes per song, subject to available storage.
Unlike MIDI recording, an audio recording captures the actual sound of the finished performance, making it easy to play back or share.
Powerful 24W Speaker System
The PSR-E583 features:
-
Two 12cm speakers
-
12W x 2 amplification
This provides considerably more output than many conventional portable keyboards.
For home playing, rehearsals and smaller performance situations, that additional power gives the keyboard a fuller, more confident sound.
Mega Boost
Need extra level quickly?
The dedicated Mega Boost function offers two stages of output increase:
-
Approx. +3dB
-
Approx. +6dB
This can be particularly useful when playing with other musicians or when you need additional output during a performance.
Battery or Mains Powered
Despite its performance-focused feature set, the PSR-E583 remains portable.
It can operate from:
-
Yamaha PA-300C mains adaptor
-
Six AA batteries
Compatible battery types include:
-
Alkaline
-
Manganese
-
Rechargeable Ni-MH
Battery operation makes it useful for rehearsals, lessons, busking-style applications or situations where mains power isn't convenient.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Yamaha PSR-E583 is particularly well suited to:
-
Intermediate keyboard players
-
Ambitious beginners wanting room to develop
-

-
Singer-keyboard players
-
Worship musicians
-
Solo performers

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Intermediate players, ambitious beginners, performers, worship musicians and songwriters wanting a powerful portable keyboard without moving into the significantly more expensive PSR-SX category.
Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level Yamaha PSR-E models, older portable keyboards and basic home keyboards with limited sound and accompaniment options.
Most commonly paired with: A sturdy keyboard stand, sustain pedal, expression pedal, headphones and a suitable padded keyboard bag or case.
Our tip: Don't look at the PSR-E583 as simply a keyboard with 890 sounds. The real value lies in combining Looper, Auto Chord Play, Quick Sampling, articulation controls and the Live Control knobs. Used together, they turn it into a genuinely creative performance instrument.
Showroom feedback: The PSR-E583 makes particular sense for players who want something significantly more capable than a basic portable keyboard but aren't yet looking for the larger investment or deeper arranger workflow of the PSR-SX series.
